The sound of maracas and songs of utter gibberish filled the Hero Garden as a lone chao danced before the water. Celer had been done it for the past hour, a remarkable feat for the scatter-brained cheetah. Ending yet another one of his performances, Celer tapped his foot to an unheard beat, readied his maracas, and started the clamor all over again.
Sonic winced as Celer started the "song" again. He could no longer feel his legs or his butt. His hands were frozen, ready to give applause to the lengthy performance. He'd thought up at least twenty different encouraging phrases. He'd calculated the time it would take to get to the Round Fruit tree, grab the fallen fruit, and return it as a reward.
But Celer, his beloved Celer, the only living being that Sonic had infinite patience for, had decided to give yet another encore.
Damn it.
Five minutes later and Celer had finished the song. Sonic quickly got up before the cheetah could do it again. "That's great, really… I think it's time you had a nap."
"Chao?" Celer questioned, clasping his paws and resting them against his face. He mimicked going to sleep and then shook his head. He just napped two hours ago.
"Do you need food?" Celer shook his head and patted his stomach. He was quite full, thank you. "Do you need to run?" Sonic desperately offered, motioning to the wide space in the Hero Garden. Celer thought this over, was about to shake his head, and then stopped to think again. His halo was transformed into a question mark as he pondered the question.
"Chao… Chao…" He nodded, but raised his maracas confusedly.
Sonic flinched and waved his hands to dismiss the chao. "No-no-no-no-no! I don't mind a little intermission. You need to run. You're the fastest chao alive after all." Celer beamed at this. Sonic continued to egg him on. "That topaz award on your chest was no fluke, Celer! You're the speed king! Who am I to keep you from practicing! Run! Be free!" The hedgehog cried, pointing in the first direction his arm went.
Celer was so caught up in the moment that he followed Sonic's finger right into the water. Sonic sighed as he heard a surprised yelp, and then a giggle. He smiled a bit. Gone were the days when Celer would dive into the water, only to find out he couldn't swim. Gone were the times when Sonic would have settled down for a little nap, only to be rudely awakened by his dear chao shrieking at the tops of his lungs for help. Gone were the precious moments when Celer sobbed, looking almost traumatized because of the experience… Then jumping right back into the water when Sonic wasn't looking.
Sonic loved his chao, he really did… But sometimes Celer destroyed any thoughts Sonic had for settling down and having children. "Speaking of children," Sonic muttered to himself, "I better get out before Celer notices his audience is still here…!" And he made haste for the exit.
Celer floated in the water, cooing a little song. This unintentionally reminded him of his performance, and he clawed out of the water to find Sonic. But the hedgehog was gone… The little cheetah chao shrugged, his halo bobbing back and forth. Sonic must have left to tell everyone what a good musician Celer had been today. Celer allowed a smug grin to work across his face. He was the fastest chao alive, the best swimmer in the world, and the greatest musician on earth.
Who wouldn't run off to tell their friends about him?
I don't own Sonic, but I do own Celer. Please read and review. ^-^
