Inu Yasha No Yume

Chapter 3 – Hell Wasps

Cautiously, she approached the big cat. She held out her hand and it sniffed it vigorously.
"Kirara's harmless if you're a friend," Sango called from Kirara's back. "She'll always stay by your side when she's needed."
"It's hard to believe that something so small and cute could become something so big and...vicious." Yume stroked Kirara's white fur.

Her eyes were sharp. Everything was as clear as a mountain stream. Her hearing was perfect. Distantly, she heard a loud buzz. She growled at the familiar buzz, catching the attention of her rider.

"What is it, Kirara?" Sango patted her shoulder and leaned forward.
"A buzzing sound." Yume whispered, "In the forest to your rear. She's heard it before."
"How'd you know that?" Sango starred, puzzled.
"A vision, just now. I saw what Kirara saw and heard what she did." She paused and let her voice fall even lower, "Saimyousho. Whatever those are..."
"Naraku's poison bees," Sango's voice was equally low and edgy. "but why would they be here?"
"What is it?" Inu Yasha asked, keeping his voice as low as theirs and acting casual. "Why are you whispering?"
"Saimyousho..." Sango murmured.
Inu Yasha scowled. "Don't tell the others. Act normally," He turned. "Kagome! Are you riding with me?!" He demanded, sounding angry.
"No!" She shouted, sounding equally pissed. "I don't think I will! I'll ride with Sango and Miroku!"
"Fine!" He turned back to Yume, "Are you riding on Kirara?" Yume starred and shrugged, "Ride with me, then."
"O-okay..."
He turned his back to her. Kagome and Miroku climbed on Kirara and Yume couldn't figure what Inu Yasha was doing. A long pause ensued where all eyes were on her.
"Well?!" Inu Yasha looked over his shoulder, an eyebrow up.
"Ah..." Yume tried to think of something to say to hide her embarrassment that she didn't know what to do.
"Climb on my back!" He ordered gruffly.
"Oh!" Yume his her blush and did as she was told.
Inu Yasha hopped back a step. "Sango," He whispered. "we'll find out what those bugs are up to," He jumped gracefully over Kirara and her riders with Yume holding on tight and a shout. "We'll catch up!"
Before she knew it, they were in the air flying over the forest canopy. Her heart beat wildly as the wind whipped her hair madly about her face. She took a deep breath and suddenly they landed.
"We'll walk from here," He whispered. "Once we reach the lake, we'll see if they're following us or the others. Then we'll split up and you can figure out the rest."
"Okay," Yume whispered as she stepped down.
Casually, she brushed her hair forward and began walking in the direction Inu Yasha had motioned. She noticed Inu Yasha's eyes had lingered where her hair fell forward and she felt her heart skip a beat. "Your earrings match your eyes," He noted. "Eyes that are unlike any I have ever seen."
"Shippou's eyes are green and yours are amber," She smiled.
"He's also a Youkai and I'm a Hanyou. Or had you forgotten?" His voice suspected her less than his eyes told.
"I could never forget," Yume sighed uneasily.
"Is that so?" He grumbled
Yume caught sight of the lake. "There it is," She laughed and Inu Yasha looked at her like she was crazy, but she shrugged it off. "And why are you here, Inu Yasha? How'd you get loose from the God Tree?"
"Kagome removed Kikyo's arrow from my chest, freeing me."
"Is Kagome-sama the miko Kikyo's reincarnation? That's what Kaede- sama said."
"It's true..."
"I'm sorry. Must be a painful memory..."
He snorted. "Hardly any of your business."
"So it is," She walked onto the sandy ground.
"You really are nosey."
"I can't see you Inu Yasha. It makes me wonder. I can put the pieces together from others through visions, but you are a mystery," She laughed and slipped off her sandals and socks. "You make me feel blind."
"What are you, Yume? Not just a Seer, I think," He asked as she touched a toe to the cool water.
Her voice was soft. "I just simply am," She turned to him, eyes unfocused. "And what are you? A Hanyou? Neither human nor Youkai, yet a fine mix of both. You simply are; no purpose. Or not. So lucky to have a place where you belong. In the hearts of your friends..."
"You're babbling." He snickered, "I'm gonna go around the lake," He lowered his voice. "Keep your eyes and ears open. I'll be right back," With that he bounded off.
When he was out of sight, Yume sighed. "That was close..." She whispered and sat down to enjoy the sun's warmth. "Keep that place, Inu Yasha."

(( O ))

Half an hour later, he returned. He gave her a look that asked if she'd seen anything. She gave a slight shake of her head and they took to the air.
"They're following you," He muttered as he jumped from tree to hill to cliff, "They stayed even when I was a ways off."
"Why would this Naraku's hell wasps be following me?" She whispered.
"I don't know..."
"Maybe he knows I'm a Seer?"
She felt him falter underneath her. "Great!" He growled. "He wants to know if he'll succeed in destroying the world and ruling its ruins..."
Yume almost laughed.
