Inu Yasha No Yume
Chapter 4 - Castle
"This shard is evil!" He proclaimed to the lord, "We will gladly take it off your hands in exchange for rooms for the night."
"Oh! Would you, Houshi-sama? Would rooms be enough? We could supply meals, as well..." His nasally voice squeaked.
"That would be fine. We appreciate your hospitality, but it's not that big of a deal," Miroku drawled. "only an endless curse..."
"Please! Thank you! Anything you want!"
"Thank you, good sir."
"Follow me, Houshi-sama."
The five travelers followed the lord down the long corridor. They came to a bend and turned into another section of the building. The lord stopped in front of a room with extravagant paintings on the screen doors. Expecting to pass and not seeing the lord stop, Yume ran into Inu Yasha's back. He looked over his shoulder at her with a rather annoyed look on his face. She blushed and her eyes fell. She heard a muffled chuckle.
"Here," The lord was saying. "This is our finest guest suite. There are three rooms," He opened the beautiful doors. "one for the ladies, one for the men, and a lounge where we'll bring you dinner. For all that you have done, I hope this will be enough," He took off down the hall to alert the servants of their guests.
"Miroku..." Inu Yasha mumbled.
"What?! I have a way with..."
"Men!" Kagome cut in. "Since your way with women is nonexistent."
"I'm hurt..." He sighed and went to inspect the room; turning briefly to toss Kagome the Shikon shard.
"Two in one week," She smiled while slipping it into the pouch she carried around her neck. "We're doing good."
"All is safe and secure," Miroku smiled as he came back in. "Were the Hell Wasps following us?"
"Talk about your subject change..." Sango muttered as she sat at the table.
"Well?" Miroku insisted, sitting across from Sango.
Kagome sat next to Sango. "Yes, Inu Yasha, what did you find?"
"It would seem," He sat between and Miroku, "they are following Yume."
"Why Yume?" Shippou hopped into Kagome's lap.
"Why indeed..." Inu Yasha mumbled.
Yume slowly made her way to the empty spot between Kagome and Miroku. "I don't know this Naraku like you do. Why would he have an interest in me?"
"Possibly because you're a Seer?" Sango suggested.
"Most likely," Miroku agreed.
"Than we'll have to keep an eye on you, Yume-chan," Kagome smiled.
A few young girls in plain kimonos entered bearing heavy plates of steaming food. Yume caught its sent and was suddenly ravenous. As a girl brought a tray between her and Miroku she heard him speak to the girl.
"Such a heavy thing to bear," He whispered. "Perhaps you'd rather bear my child?"
A large piece of sushi hit him square in the face. Sango smiled, seemingly pleased with herself.
