Inu Yasha no Yume
Chapter 14– Sesshoumaru
In the faint glow of the small fire, Yume studied his eyes. It was that haunting gold with split pupils that were Inu Yasha's.
"Sesshoumaru?" She tested the name on her own tongue. "You hate him? Or just his scent?" She cocked her head.
He gave her a small chuckle, but didn't answer. Yume bit her lip at the awkward silence. Terribly aware of his scrutiny, she stopped and fiddled with her obi instead, avoiding eye contact.
"Yes, I do hate him. Such a pathetic Hanyou..." He kept his voice calm, but his eyes glittered with disgust.
"Because he's a Hanyou?" Yume continued to play with her obi.
"Mortals are pests, Hanyou are plagues." The bitter touch in his voice would hurt if she were!
The idea hit her and she pulled herself up into a crouch and crept forward. "Ah..." She held out her right hand, palm to the left, "Do you mind if I..." She lost her nerve.
Sesshoumaru eyed her palm as Yume cautiously reached forward and stopped. She managed to touch the hand he had rested on his knee, she closed her eyes, awaiting the vision.
Nothing happened. She snapped her eyes open and starred at the palm of her hand. She pressed her hand to his again, and still nothing happened.
"Wha...?!" She glared at his hand as if it were at fault. She gasped. That was it! She laughed and sat back on her bottom.
"What's so funny?" He pressed a finger to her forehead and pushed her head back so she'd look at him. She smiled sweetly.
"It makes sense that I wouldn't be able to get visions from you, either. Being Inu Yasha's brother and all..." He glared at her, clearly annoyed. She blushed. "Sorry! You see...ah...I'm a Seer. I see things by touching someone or something that they have touched. I can see their past, present, or future through this touch."
"And what's this have to do with Inu Yasha?" His voice was held curiosity.
"I was never able to get visions from Inu Yasha. It was like there was some sort of protection that kept his heart from me. I assumed it was because he was a Hanyou but..." She averted her eyes. "It seems it has to do with the blood running through your veins. It's the same."
She could feel the heat of his glare burning through her. "We do not have the same blood!" He growled.
Yume cringed and continued to look away. She already hated that angry look that seemed to come to Sesshoumaru's eyes all too often. She enjoyed his smile more than she liked to think was possible after having just met him. If she could just get him to chuckle again...
"I guess I passed out, huh?" She shuddered, remembering.
"Yes..." She heard him sit back against the tree, his glare reduced to an expressionless stare.
Yume returned to her position against the opposite tree. "If you wanted to kill me, how come you brought me here and built a fire? Silly logic."
He chuckled. "I suppose. Why would you scream and faint like that?"
Yume blushed, angry at her actions. "Why would you care?"
"I don't."
She sighed. I thought so... "Then why should I tell you?"
"Don't. I don't care."
"It's none of your business, anyway," She reached for some wood and placed it in the fire.
"You're right. It's not."
She stood and turned where she guessed the hot spring was. "I need to take a bath. Sleeping on the ground has removed the effect of the one I took earlier," She looked back over her shoulder. "If you still want to kill me, I won't leave. I won't be long, either."
Without another word she headed in the direction the scent of minerals came from. As she shed her dress she breathed in deep the aromatic steam of the hot pool.
Before she thought about it, she went under. Her hair was still clean; did she really need to wash it again? It was too late now, though.
She began to scrub her flesh, more gently than she had before. Yume kept her thoughts on Sesshoumaru rather than Naraku. The last thing she needed was Sesshoumaru thinking she was some weird mortal...
Could he know?! She asked herself again and again. He was full- blooded Youkai, so he had to know! Then again, maybe he didn't...
She surfaced and whipped her hair back from her face over her head; flinging water everywhere. She was smoothing it back, neatly wringing the water from it when she opened her eyes and saw Sesshoumaru coming right at her from where she'd left him.
Dumbfounded, she stood there, her hands on her head; fingers mingling with her hair. The way he walked, not really walked but whooshed, toward her told that he was suppressing speed with anger. His fists were tightly clenched at his sides as he came. He had seen something that had brought him jumping gracefully up and over the wall that held the pool together.
Not seemingly bothered by the force of water against his legs, he kept coming. Confused, Yume lost her senses as his eyes locked on hers. She gasped and backed up a step, her foot slipping into a deep spot. She began to fall in, but a clawed hand grabbed her wrist and yanked her back up.
Close to all-out panic, she tried to pull away, but his hand was firm around her wrist. This wasn't happening, he senses roared. "N-no!" She gasped, horrified. "Stop! Stop it!" She brought her other hand around in hopes of hitting him, but lightening fast he blocked it with the same hand; his gaze never leaving hers.
He let go completely and grabbed her chin with only his right hand. It was then Yume realized he had only one arm. She starred into his eyes, her own shrieking defiance and daring him to try anything.
Sesshoumaru turned her head to the right. She expected him to bite her neck, or something, but nothing happened. He let go of her chin.
"Don't move," He growled.
She didn't, curiosity poking through her terror. She felt a cold claw on her ear and it came to her. He rudely bent the tissue of her ear, examining it. She strained to see what he was looking at even though she knew. A pointed ear meant only one thing, all suspicions confirmed, Yume the Seer was a Youkai.
"Shameless bitch," He growled and let go, giving her head a little push.
Yume felt the hit and starred at him in disbelief. He turned and walked away at a somewhat normal place. The second impact of why he seemed angry slammed her even harder.
"W-wait! Sesshoumaru-sama! Wait!" She called and began trudging after him.
He ignored her call and continued up and over the wall. Yume tripped but continued to struggle after him. She wouldn't let the white Youkai get away so easily.
