Inu Yasha no Yume
Chapter 19 – Rin
*Author's Note* - I'm gonna start dropping more Japanese words into this. Some times it just doesn't feel right without the Japanese words. I'll let you know what they mean, so don't worry.
Hai – yes (Rin usually says this rather then the slang term)
Daijoubu? – Use as "Are you alright?" and then one responds with "Daijoubu."or "I'm alright."
The thicket was a lush shade of green. A small clearing revealed a great two-headed beast grazing on the crisp grass. If it had not been for the staff with 2 heads on it, she'd not have seen the funny green Youkai running towards them.
"Sesshoumaru-sama! Sesshoumaru-sama! You have returned to this unworthy Jaken!" It screamed in a raspy voice that made Yume want to squish it.
*Author's Note – I HATE Jaken with a fiery passion!*
This couldn't be Rin, surely! Yume had thought Rin was a little girl, not an ugly green bug.
"Sesshoumaru-sama!" A sweet, cheery voice called from behind the green thing.
A small human girl stumbled in behind the green thing. Her hair was snarled and held in a pigtail on one side. Her yukata was orange and yellow checkered with a bubble pattern and her eyes were bright and happy.
"Rin," Sesshoumaru spoke. "Have you been a good girl?"
"Hai, Sesshoumaru-sama!" Rin smiled and saluted; a smile snuck onto Yume's lips. "Who's this, Sesshoumaru-sama?" Rin peered curiously at Yume.
"Hello, Rin," Yume knelt to look the girl in the eye. "My name's Yume. I'm glad to meet you."
Rin beamed. "Me too! This is Jaken-sama if you haven't already met!" She poked Jaken in the back of the head and the green bug glared at Yume; Sesshoumaru-sama's scent was all over her.
"We haven't," He mumbled, grudgingly.
"I'm a friend of Sesshoumaru-sama's," Yume addressed Rin rather than the putout Jaken.
There was a moment of tension that mainly came from Jaken. "Rin, are you hungry?" Sesshoumaru asked.
"A little," Rin admitted, turning her full attention to the white Youkai.
"Shall we go fishing?" Yume suggested, setting a hand on Rin's shoulder.
Rin flashed a grin. "Hai!"
"Alright, then. I saw a stream on our way here," Rin seemed to know the direction and turned. "Want to race?" Yume added.
Rin gave a gleeful nod and the two took off at a run. Jaken scowled after them, then turned back to his master.
"Another one, Sesshoumaru-sama?" Jaken was stunned to find Sesshoumaru not only watching the running females, but a gentle smile tugged at his mouth.
((O))
"I win! I win!" Rin shouted triumphantly as she splashed into the stream.
Yume laughed heartily while she kicked off her sandals and dropped her pack to join the girl. "You're fast!" She splashed after her, the cold water refreshing her hot feet.
"Jaken-sama can't beat me either!" Rin beamed, immensely proud of herself.
"Is he Sesshoumaru-sama's servant?" Yume plunged her hands into the cool water and reemerged holding a silvery, slippery fish.
"Nice catch!" Rin dipped her hands in the water and waited patiently. "Jaken-sama's more of a friend, I think."
Or an obnoxious subordinate, Yume thought as she tossed the fish against a tree, killing it instantly. She smiled as she watched Rin nab her own fish and it hit her. She hadn't had a vision in some time due to her recent solitude, and then days spent with Sesshoumaru, whom was immune to her second sight.
"Rin-chan?" Rin looked back from where her fish had landed. "Would you come here?"
"Hai!" Rin trudged merrily against the current.
Yume rested on the creek's bank; Rin stood before her, smiling. "Do you know what a Seer is?"
Rin shook her head. "Nuh-uh!"
Yume touched the emerald third-eye on her forehead. "I am a Seer Youkai. I see visions by touching things or people. I can see a person's past, present, or future. Do you understand?"
"A little..." Rin starred, clearly interested.
"If my flesh contacts another's or any object they have touched, I may get a vision about the person or something."
"Can you get a vision from me?" Rin asked, excitedly.
"That's what I hope to find out," Yume smiled and reached for the child, resting a hand on her course, black hair.
The men had big, sharp swords and were coming towards her parents. They looked so angry and mean. Her mother and father's screams of pain haunted her from her hiding place under the floorboards. Blood seeped thru the cracks to drip onto her as she cried silently.
There was a man lying in the bushes; even though Rin was human, Yume caught the faintest hint of Sesshoumaru's scent and her own heart skipped a beat. She walked closer, trying to see the man's face. When she did, he flashed a red-eyed glare and hissed at her. She was startled but not scared; even so, she kept the oak tree between her and the strange man in white.
She ran even though she was tired and out of breathe. Her feet were raw and she was terrified. If only she could make it to the man in white, he was strong; he would keep her safe from the wolves! She tripped and went face first into the dirt; everything want black as pitch.
She opened her eyes, someone was holding her up and she didn't hurt any more. Slit-pupil, yellow eyes looked down on her. She had been right!
Big brown eyes watched her and Yume wondered why she was all wet. "Daijoubu?" Rin touched her hand to Yume's forehead. "You slipped into the water..."
Yume lifted her arms, defeated. "So, I see," She pushed herself up and Rin giggled. "Really funny, ne?" Rin nodded. "I suppose we could catch a few more, head back, and start a fire, ne?"
*Author's Note* - "Ne?" is like "eh?"; looking for confirmation
Hontou? – Under the same principal as Daijoubu only it means "Really?" and you can use at as the reply, "Really."
Sugoi – Cool, awesome, amazing, wonderful, wow sou da ne? – Is that so?
Un – Hai; yes (slang)
Uun – no (slang)
Domo, arigatou, domo arigatou– Thanks; thank you
"Hai!" Rin skipped back into the middle of the stream and sunk her hands under the water's surface again. "Did you see anything?" She asked eagerly.
"Yes, I did," Yume did the same, shivering slightly from her damp dress.
"May I ask what?" Rin smiled with the utmost politeness.
"Some of your memories. Important ones that make up who you are," Yume scooped up a fish.
"Hontou? Sugoi!" Rin grabbed a flopping fish and the two both threw the fish at the tree.
"Hontou," Yume smiled and reached back in the water. "Like how you met Sesshoumaru-sama."
"Sou da ne?" Rin seemed pleased as she tossed one more fish against the tree.
"Will that be enough?" Yume stood up straight.
"Un!" Rin splashed over to the bank and hopped out.
"I'll get the fish, Rin-chan, would you get my pack?" Rin nodded and reached for Yume's pack. Yume slipped on her sandals. "I'll gut these."
"Hai!" Rin smiled and skipped off.
Yume pulled out there belt knife, slit the fishes' stomachs, and gutted them. She tossed the fish innards into a bush and carried the rest back to the clearing.
There was a fire but Sesshoumaru was nowhere in sight. Yume ignored Jaken and began to stake the fish with sharp sticks and positioned them over the fire. She didn't think Jaken would tell her, if her even knew, where Sesshoumaru had gone. She went to where Rin had left her pack and pulled out her blanket.
"Rin-chan, I'm gonna change. Watch the fish?" Rin rushed over and knelt by the fire where the fish were.
"Hai!"
"Domo," Yume Stepped out of the clearing and walked a little ways away to a circle of trees that offered itself as a changing room.
