Chapter 5: Where's Harry?
Dumbledore sat at his office table looking over his clasped hands at Arabella Figg. Arabella was a highly respected squib or as highly respected as a squib could be.
Dumbledore had decided to send her to live on privet drive to help him keep a close eye on Harry.
He had instructed her to stay unknown until she was told other wise.
Today, the day after Harry's fourth birthday, Dumbledore had decide it was finally time she went over to the Dursley's and checked on Harry.
"I have a plan and it is important you stick to it!" he told Arabella
"Yes Professor!" she replied briskly
"Now here's what I want you to do..."
*~*~*~* A HOUR LATER *~*~*~*
Arabella flooed home to her house (number 7 privet drive) and set about putting Dumbledore's plan into action.
Although she had never seen, any proof of Harry being at Number four Privet Drive, she presumed like Dumbledore, that the Dursley's had him hidden away from the neighbours prying eyes.
She watched through her net curtains for Mrs Dursley to start walking to the shops, Dudley in tow screaming for sweets.
Eventually the Dursley's door opened and out came Mrs Dursley and Dudley. The door's lock clicked and she set off up the street.
After waiting half an hour she took her morning 'walk' and 'accidentally' bumped into Mrs Dursley as she turned the corner.
"So sorry I didn't see you coming" smiled Mrs Dursley. "I'm Petunia Dursley," she added smugly
"Its alright, I'm Arabella Figg," Arabella began "what a lovely son you have! Is he your only child?" she asked politely
"Yes we only have dudders." Replied Mrs Dursley primly
"He's such a sweetie! I used to baby-sit a lot in my old village loved the kids though, there was one, a right bad 'un. He was always causing trouble, his parents wanted to keep him down trodden out of the way, found I was good at keeping the brat under control as well as not telling their friends about the little Horror! Now I bet this young man is nothing like him!" smiled Arabella
"Dudley is nothing like that his brilliant!" boasted Mrs Dursley proudly
"I you want a babysitter don't be afraid to call, I'll take any child in, no questions asked" Arabella informed Mrs Dursley
"Thankyou I will call on you, if you'd like to come round for tea and scones on Friday feel free" Smiled Mrs Dursley
"Id love it what time should I be there?" asked Arabella
"Come at three," Mrs Dursley informed her, "we live at number four."
"I'll be looking forward to it!" nodded Arabella
"See you then!" Smiled Mrs Dursley
"Goodbye!" Arabella smiled back
Mrs Dursley turned off up her drive and disappeared inside her house
Arabella sighed why did she have to do this? She hated the Dursley since she first seen them it was obvious they were so snobbish, but, she reminded herself she was doing this for Harry not them.
She disappeared into her own house so she could Floo to Hogwarts and tell Dumbledore what had happened.
By the time Friday came, Arabella had prepared herself. She had some questions to ask Mrs Dursley, prepared by Dumbledore so she wouldn't sound like she was snooping.
Walking carefully over the neat stone slabs of number four privet drive she gathered herself together ready for what was likely to be the most dull afternoon of her life.
The doorbell rang out through the house and Mrs Dursley answered it wearing a salmon pink outfit which made Arabella cringe with embarrassment of being seen with such a person.
"Come in!" smiled Mrs Dursley
So Arabella followed Mrs Dursley through the door into the pristine house. They went into the living room and had tea and scones while they gossiped.
"Did you know Mrs Leanings from number two is having a baby?" Mrs Dursley asked Arabella
"No I didn't!" Arabella shook her head. "Please may I use your toilet?" she asked politely hoping to get a chance to have a good snoop.
"Yes of course dear, its at the top of the stairs to your right you cant miss it has a sign saying toilet on the door. I'll be in the kitchen feeding dudders!" she informed Arabella as they went their separate ways.
Moving silently but quickly Arabella climbed the stairs and checked every room to see any sign of Harry. She even checked under the stairs but she couldn't find any sign of him anywhere.
She went back into the living room to collect her things.
"I must be off petunia, nice talking to you!" she smiled.
"One minute I'll let you out!" yelled Mrs Dursley from the kitchen
"I'll be fine I'll let myself out! Don't forget to call if you'd like me to baby sit!" she called back to her "bye!"
Letting herself out of the house, Arabella breathed a sigh of relief because she was out of there and would probably never have to go back there again, (the house was so clean it gave her the creeps).
Nevertheless, something was niggling at the back of her mind. Where was Harry if he wasn't at the Dursley's?
