If Mia thought Michael was just going to forget about everything and move on, she was very wrong.
Michael never gave up on anything. Ever. If he had to prove himself to Mia, to show her that he wanted to be with her because he liked her and not because of the publicity, then that's just what he'd do.
So on Monday, at lunchtime, he surprised everyone, his friends, her friends, the whole caf, by sitting at her table.
As soon as he sat down everyone looked up at him, their mouths hanging open.
"Michael," Lilly said, probably more confused than anyone else. "What are you doing?"
"Uh, I'm eating lunch. Is that a crime?"
"Actually, it is. What are your friends going to say when they see you sitting with us?" Lilly looked over at the Jocks table, who were looking at Michael just like everyone else.
"I don't care. I can eat lunch with whoever I want. And if I want to eat lunch with Mia, then I will."
"You're here because of me?" Mia asked, turning pink. "Why?"
"I thought I told you on Saturday. Didn't I?" Michael asked nonchalantly, biting into his lunch.
"Well, I didn't think you were being genuine," Mia said, aware that the focus of attention had now been shifted to her. "And I still don't think you are."
She stood up, picked up her tray and walked off, sitting down at the Computer Club table, next to Kenny.
"God, what do I have to do?" Michael said aloud to himself.
"Michael, what are trying to do?" Lilly asked, still in shock.
"What the hell do you think I'm trying to do, Lilly?" Michael asked bitterly.
"So you mean you actually like Mia? Like you like like her?"
Michael just looked at her, then he stood up and walked out of the cafeteria.
Mia, seeing Michael leaving, hesitated for a second, then stood up and followed him outside.
She walked down the empty corridor and stopped when she heard voices from inside a supposedly empty classroom. Feeling a sense of deja vu, Mia realised it was Josh and Michael.
"What the hell was that, Moscovitz?" Josh asked him.
"What was what?"
"You. In there. First you ditch my plan because you wanted to spare the princesses feelings, and now you're ditching your friends for her too? What's going on?"
"I like her, ok? But she thinks I'm a scumbag thanks to you and your stupid plan. I never should have listened to you in the first place. So I'm trying to show her that I'm not the scumbag she thinks I am. Only I just don't seem to be doing a very good job since she keeps running to that Showalter kid."
"So you actually like her?" Mia couldn't help but hear the shock in Josh's voice, it matched the same tone as was in her head.
"Yeah, I do."
"But... why? I mean, you could have any girl in the whole school, dude. Is it cos her dads worth like, three hundred mill?"
"No, of course not. She just happens to be the sweetest, nicest girl I've ever met. And she's caring too. Which is more than I can say for your girlfriend."
"Whoa, dude! Don't go dissing my woman!" Josh said defensively.
Mia heard his footsteps coming towards the door, but it was too late to run, and there was nowhere to hide. So she just stood there and waited for them to come out.
Josh came out first, he saw her and merely raised his eyebrows at her before continuing on.
Then Michael came out, and she didn't know what to say.
"Mia," he said, surprised to see her standing there.
"Did you... did you mean everything that you just said in there?" she asked him nervously.
He reached out and took her by the hands. "Every word. You're not like any other girl I've ever met, Mia. And it's not because you're a princess who's face gets plastered on newspapers. I don't care about that. It's because you're special that I care."
"So... so you actually like me?" Mia couldn't believe it. This was the boy she'd loved since she could remember, and here he was telling her she was special!
"Yes. Why is that so hard to believe? After all, Kenny likes you," he admitted.
"Yeah, but that's Kenny Showalter. You're Michael Moscovitz. People like you aren't supposed to like people like me."
"Who says?" Michael asked, inching closer to her.
"Well, Lana for one. And... everyone!"
"Haven't you ever wanted to prove someone wrong? Haven't you ever wanted to prove Lana wrong?"
Mia couldn't deny this, "Of course."
"Well then let's prove them wrong. Let's prove them all wrong." Then he leaned in and kissed her.
"No," she pulled back after a minute. "This is wrong, I'm still with Kenny.
"Forget about Kenny. You can break up with him later," Michael said, pulling her back.
"Ok..." Mia agreed, forgetting about Kenny and thinking only of Michael and his lips.

That was the last chapter. Hope you liked it. I have heaps of idea's runnning through my head, which is a bad thing for me because I wanted to take a break from PD writing, but good for you guys, I guess. You seem to like my stories somewhat.
