A/N: This is my first attempt at something a bit darker to my previous fics – its not incredibly dark right enough, but it does have death in it and a lot of violence and drug references so… *shrugs* oo, and some sexual situations between two guys. So if that offends you, don't read! Consider yourself warned! Oh, and this story has been based on a sort of Romeo/Juliet (mostly from the movie) romance type… thing. :)
A/N: I just want to add how much I appreciate your reviews – and THANK YOU so much for loving my story (gosh, LT – I'm so flattered at your review for Celebrate You *blushes* I'm so not worthy!) Anyway, I'll stop babbling and let you get on with reading…
CHAPTER 9 – Watching Stars Without You My Soul Cries
Remus Lupin sighed as he walked along the morning corridors of Hogwart's Castle, breathing in the all too familiar smell of old books and damp floors. He held his tattered briefcase lightly in his left hand, filled with paperwork and various other items – he was applying for his old job back. Sure, he had told Harry he was here to check up on Draco, but he had actually planned this meeting with Dumbledore for weeks.
He was surprised at the lack of students in the corridor towards the Great Hall, it was round about 9.30 in the morning and usually countless students dillydallied along, trying to get to their morning classes. But so far, Lupin had seen none. As he neared the doors to the Hall, he noticed that they were ajar. Upon seeing this, he edged in closer and opened the door ever so slowly to take a look inside.
Every single student of the school sat in silence at their tables, where no food lay, staring at the empty space in front of them. The entire hall was decorated in Slytherin colours, silver and green. Lupin held his breath, too scared to break the silence, when suddenly, a familiar voice boomed throughout the stillness causing him to jump.
"Students of Hogwarts, it is with deep regret to inform you that we have lost one of our Seventh Year pupils." Dumbledore spoke, his voice grave, lost of any sparkle or joy. Lupin gasped as he heard a loud wail from the Slytherin table, a group of young girls of around 16 crying onto each other's shoulders, and that's when he saw it. The empty seat – the seat that used to occupy Draco Malfoy. He could remember it from his teaching four years ago. *It can't be…* He thought to himself, shocked.
"It is believed that Draco Malfoy took his own life last night in his Head Boy quarters, and was found earlier this morning by his parents. I would like you to take a few minutes of silence, and think about what he meant to us and our school. His body rests peacefully in Malfoy Manor." Dumbledore finished, sitting back down on his seat. The whole hall was silent again.
Lupin felt his heart jump to his throat, beating wildly. Without thinking, he dropped his briefcase and ran as fast as he could. He had to get to Harry.

Harry sat on the backdoor step of Lupin and Sirius' house, letting his legs stretch out into the long shards of grass in the back garden. If you could call it a back garden. There were no fences, no neighbours, therefore it was just an expanse field of golden green grass, dotted out with an apple tree every here and there, and it seemed to go on forever.
Sighing and stretching his arms, he yawned and looked blearily at the morning sun, admiring the rays of shimmering gold weaving their way through the grassy plains, reflecting and bouncing through the trees. Taking in a deep breath, he smiled lightly as the smell of fresh woodland emitted into his nostrils. It was intoxicating. He tried not to let the thoughts of Ron get to him over the past couple of days, but they always seem to come creeping back – his ashen face, once so bright and full of life, dead in his arms. All because of him.
Biting back a sob, Harry turned round suddenly when he heard the familiar screech of tires in the front driveway. *Lupin is home already?* He thought to himself, standing up.
As Remus entered through the house, he scanned the hallway. "Harry?" He asked uncertainly. *What if he already knows?* "Harry?!"
"Moony I'm through here!" Harry called back from the garden.
Remus gasped and headed towards the back door to find it open, and stepped outside, only to be pounced on by his best friend's godson.
"So, what happened?" Harry asked anxiously. "How is Draco? Is he causing anymore trouble?" He asked with a giggle, playfully punching Lupin's arm.
Lupin's face was stern and cold, his lips pursed together. He looked blankly at Harry, not knowing what to say.
"Remus?" Harry asked, his voice going up an octave. "Remus what's the matter? How is Draco?"
Lupin took in a shaky breath. "Draco killed himself, Harry." He said flatly. Harry felt his whole body run cold. He wasn't aware of the faint muttering coming from his own mouth, the fact that his fists were so clenched that his nails bore into his palms. "What?!" He blurted.
"His body rests in Malfoy Manor. I'm sorry… I'm so sorry, Harry."
"He's not dead!" Harry boomed, surprised it came out like a laugh. His eyebrows knitted into a deep frown and his eyes began to water. "He can't be dead!" He repeated, feeling his head go dizzy and light – for a fleeting moment he thought he was back on one of Seamus' drugs.
Remus shifted uncomfortably on the spot before reaching out to embrace Harry, who yelled out a wordless howl and pushed him away violently.
"Harry!" Remus said gently.
Harry stumbled away from Lupin and dropped to his knees on the grassy ground. He panted heavily and grasped onto the nearest strands of grass by his sides, twisting them in his fists and pulling dangerously at them.
Draco was dead. Draco had killed himself. All because he was made to marry someone he didn't love.
"Why?" Harry sobbed, twisting the grass until it ripped out from it's roots. *You're so selfish, Draco! You knew we would be together no matter what… and now look what you've done!* Harry catched in a breath and let his head go down sharply, looking at the ground beneath his knees. "Draco…" He sobbed, biting on his lips. *You're so self-centred, Draco! I HATE YOU!* "DRACO!" Harry screamed into the air, causing birds to flock out of the trees. *I love you…*
Remus stood on, watching Harry destroy the grass beneath him while sobbing hysterically. He jumped when Harry stood up sharply, heading towards the front of the house, his face now blank and determined.
"Harry? Harry what are you doing?" Lupin asked awkwardly, trying to catch Harry's arm.
"I'm leaving." Harry said blankly, grabbing his wand from the hall table and ripping open the door.
"Harry!" Lupin pleaded, trying to grab his arm again.
"LET GO OF ME!" Harry yelled, pushing Lupin so hard that he slammed against the wall inside the small dim lit hall.
"What's going on?" A voice from upstairs shouted, before Sirius appeared on the landing. "Harry, where are you going?"
Lupin looked from Sirius to Harry, and tried to hold onto Harry again. "You can't go! There's nothing you can do, Harry! It's pointless!" He yelled, causing Sirius to give a startled jump.
"What the sodding hell is going on?" He asked desperately, running down the stairs towards them.
Once again, Harry threw Lupin off him, causing him to land backwards into Sirius. "You've been told wrong, Lupin!!" Harry shouted, leaning over the fallen pair.
Lupin shaked his head and looked desperately up at Harry. "It's the truth Harry – Draco is dead and there is nothing you can do about it!"
Sirius blinked, and looked up at Harry. His hair was everywhere, his face red and murderous.
"It doesn't matter." Harry said flatly, his voice terrifyingly low. "I'm leaving. And don't expect to see me again." And with that, he ran out of the door.
Remus stood up suddenly at the sound of screeching tires and glared out of the doorway to see Harry drive off in his car. He turned to look at Sirius, who just stared back at him with the same stunned expression.
"I didn't know he could drive." Sirius gasped suddenly.
"He can't" Remus replied distantly, watching the car fade away into the distance.
