Lily strode after Bella leaving the rest of the Evans' staring in her wake. "Um, Bella please excuse my asking but how exactly do we get to Diagon Alley?"

"Ah sorry Lilee I forgot yoo can not apparate!" Bella said exasperatedly. So instead of walking out the door she turned into the main sitting room and stood next to the fireplace. Lily watched curiously as she took out a small emerald sack which contained green powder. Bella through a pinch into the fire and watched it blaze fiercely licking the walls of the fireplace with sharp green tongues. "Okay Lilee I will go first to show yoo what to do, don't be frightened. All you 'ave to do is step into the fire and shout out which destination you would like to be transported to. In dis case yoo will call out the Leaky Cauldron. Don't be scared it iz a pub near Diagon Alley."

With that, Bella hopped into the fireplace filled with jade flames and shouted out, "Leaky Cauldron!" and she was gone. Shakily Lily reached out one arm into the fire and to her surprise the flames were cool. Inhaling a deep breath she lunged into the fire relived that she didn't burn to a crisp.

Remembering what she was doing in the fire in the first place, she shut her eyes and shouted, "Leaky Cauldron!" All of a sudden she felt herself being jerked of her feet and start to spin at a violent speed. She opened her eyes and amid the green, swirling mist she saw various fireplaces sweep past her vision. Suddenly she stopped pirouetting, and some force of nature told her to stretch her hands out in front of her. This had been a very cleaver idea as the next second her feet hit solid ground with such force she was thrown head first out of a dusty fireplace.

Lily felt someone lift her up from behind; she turned round to see a man in his early thirties grinning at her, and said "Hallo I'm Tom, the innkeeper." He said holding out his hand.

"Hi I'm Lily Evans." Replied the young girl.

"Ah, der yoo are Lilee," Bella called out to Lily, "I 'ave seen you 'ave met Tom, yes, 'ello old Tom good to see yoo again!" Bella embraced Tom in a sisterly fashion. "Just taking Lilee 'ere shopping for school, first year at Hogwarts!"

"Ah well, Diagon Alley is pretty full today, best get a move on, see you later, Bella! Lily!" he waved slightly then bushed his way to the counter.

"Come on Lilee, we 'ave an exciting few things to do!" Bella told her leading her out a side door towards the back of the pub. "'Ere we are!" The French woman indicated to a small courtyard, with brick walls and a series of trashcans. She pulled out her wand and started counting the bricks then tapping them in a complicated pattern, finally she stood back. Lily wondered what was going to happen when quite suddenly the brick wall began to transform into a wide arch-way leading down to a busy street full of witches and wizards in robes. Big and small shops were lined up and down the lanes.

"Wow!" gasped Lily, "Bell' where do we start?"

"'Ow about we get your school books, then potion ingredients, then your robes and finally your wand. But first we must go to Gringgotts, the wizards bank!"

They walked through the crowded streets and past colourful shops, people chattered and laughed, many of them looked about Lily's age. She hoped some of the kinder looking individuals would be in some of her classes. Finally they reached a pearly white building with huge doors. Inside goblins patrolled around the counters, some were weighing precious jewels others were showing people around the bank. Lily's first impression of them was that they didn't look too friendly. Bella approached the counter were some grumpy-looking gobbling was sorting through some papers and looked extremely put-off to be disturbed.

"I would like to withdraw some money from my account, the name iz Bella Jones 'ere iz my key, de vault iz three-hundred and six." Bella withdrew a small key from her purse and held it out to the goblin. He scowled and examined the key with such precision that he didn't blink.

"Very well. Stinchcop! Please show these people to vault three-hundred and six!" a smaller Looking goblin came over and glowered up at them.

"Follow me please!" grunted the short creature. He led them down some dirt steps and through a tunnel to where a cart resembling that of a miners cart, was waiting for them. "Please take a seat and be prepared for a fast journey!" he grumbled. When they all were seated the cart took off at an amazing speed, weaving its way deeper through the tunnels Lily enjoyed the experience, she laughed and yelled happily waving her arms about maniacally. Bella on the other hand was slowly turning green and did not quite enjoy the speed and sharp turning as much as Lily did. And the goblin just looked grumpy.

At last the cart slowed down in front of a small door, with the numbers 306 inscribed into it. "Key please!" ordered Stinchcop. Bell passed him the tiny golden key. The goblin unlocked the metal door and swung it open. Lily gasped, before her was the largest pile of gold she had ever seen. Bronze, silver and gold coins piled on top each other, on the floor various jewels scattered in disarray. The room was big enough to fit two twenty-five-metre pools in comfortably.

"Wow Bella! You're rich!" Lily exclaimed, her eyes wondering over the magnificent pile of valuables.

"Do excuse me," said Stinchop haughtily, "I can't stay here all day, there are other customers you know!"

"Yes, yes, come on Lilee, we need to get your books soon!" both Bella and Lily worked together to fill a bag with money, "Okay Lilee zat should do us." Lily nodded and they strolled out of the vault, leaving Stinchop to lock the door.

On the way back up from Bella's account Lily became to ponder why her older friend had decided to work for her parents for such a low wage, when she already had a fortune. She decided to ask her later seen as at that moment Bella looked as if her breakfast had decided to regurgitate itself.

After a short ice cream, Lily and Bella made their way to Flourish and Blotts, where they would buy Lily's books.

"Ah, non! De are very full, quickly Lilee line up 'ere. What books do you need?"

Lily looked down at her book list and read it aloud to Bella, "for Charms I need; a Beginners Guide to Charms, By Louise Tralfane, for Herbology I need; Herbs and Plants, Volume one. In Defence Against the Dark Arts I need: Sinister creatures and Where to find them, by Arnold McKee. For History of Magic I will require: Historical advents in Magical History, by Wellard Winston, and Famous Faces, by Catherine O'Conner. In Transfiguration I need: Double Faced, by Moreen Montavillea. And for Potions I need: Potent Potions, by Venus Alzard."

"Yoo will also need some parchment, quills and inkbottles, 'ere we are, there iz a man over der who iz free to serve someone. Excuze me zir! Over 'ere!" Bella shouted. The man turned and walked over.

"May I help you ladies? Hogwarts is it?" he smiled. Lily nodded, "Ah, okay lets see you're list," he said holding out his hand." Lily handed it to him in a business like manner, "thankyou- ah you are a first year, I thought you may have been a third year! Yes I had a problem with their order, for Defence Against the Dark Arts, they required the Invisible Book of Invisibility, I ordered them but... I never found them!" He walked around the bookshelf pulling out various books and handing them to Lily.

"We would also like to purchase zome parchment, ink and quill if we could," Bella said.

"Certainly, what type of ink, green, purple, red, orange, teal, jade, dark blue or black?" asked thee assistant.

"Lilee, chooze three colours," ordered Bella.

"Um, jade and red and black," Lily said pointing to each in turn.

"Excellent, now these bottle of ink will last about a year each, very handy I reckon," said the man leading them over to the counter, "here is some parchment. We have various quills to choose from. The best ones are eagle, but we also have crow, owl-,"

"I think we will juzt get two eagle quills thankyoo." Bella answered before he got too carried away.

"Right you are! Okay that comes to one galleon and three sickles, thankyou!" After they had payed for Lily's books they made their way through the crowded streets towards the shop where they got her potion ingredients. Finally they had paid twelve sickles and two Knuts, for the ingredients and departed for "Madam Malkin's robes for all Occasions" where Lily would receive her robes.

This shop was highly decorated the walls were fleshy pink with red roses and chintz chairs littered the small, floral room. "BELLA!" cried a plump, curly-haired woman from behind the counter, she sprinted over to the French lady an embraced her tightly.

"Ah Melody! I 'ad no idea you worked 'ere!" Bella exclaimed.

"Oh I haven't seen you in ages! Remember my crazy Aunt Erophina, she carked it in July so I got this," she indicated to the shop around her. "I think I might redecorate, but- Oh! Well whose this little angle!"

"Ah, sorry Lilee, Lilee dis is Melody, Melody was my best friend when I was at school, Melody, Lilee iz de daughter of the family I used to work for," Bella explained.

"Ah I can remember the last time you owled me and you told me about her and her family and their er... relationship." Melody said flaring her nostrils. "Anyway!" she said rather hastily, "what did you mean by 'used to' work for.

"Well 'ow about I tell yoo while yoo fit Lilee for 'er 'Ogwarts uniform, yes!" Bella enquired.

"Oh yes, sorry dear!" Melody wiped out her tape measure and wrapped it around Lily's waist, "hmm she's a bit skinny for her age, no offence dear, but make sure you always eat breakfast! It's the most important meal of the day you know!" After several minutes of Lily trying on various robes and Bella telling Melody about her resignation. The stout woman cried, "So they just sacked you after they said Lily was a witch? What kind of people are they? No offence dear." Melody finished looking worriedly at Lily just in case she had affronted her. "Well Bella if you are looking for a place to stay, you can always stay with me and my niece, we live at the main headquarters of the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmead. You remember that pub don't you? Good, good well my niece, Rosemerta, just finished at Hogwarts last year and she's the barmaid there, yes it's very convenient."

Conclusively they found the right robes for Lily (Which Melody had to tighten quite a bit around the waist with her wand), Melody sold to them for half-price.

"Well Bella do you want to come and have lunch with me at the Leaky Cauldron, while Lily gets her wand?" asked Melody excitedly, "we can talk about the things each of us have been up to!" she finished mischievously.

"Iz zat alright wid yoo Lilee?" Bella enquired concernedly, Lily nodded, "well remember my flower meet us at the Leaky Cauldron, Ollivanders wand shop is right down de end of de street. It might take a while, yes. Zo if you take an hour it iz all right. Ah yes, 'ere iz some money, wandz are very expensive! 'Ave a goodtime!"

Bella gave Lily a small hug then linked arms with Melody. Lily watched them go, both laughing, both happy, she wondered why Bella had given it all up to do servant work at the Evans' household. She remembered with a happy jolt that she was supposed to be getting her wand, and skipped down the lane all her questioning, she put to the back of her mind.

When she reached Olivander's Wands all her happy thoughts left her. Before her stood an extremely sinister-looking building. The windows were black and covered, the walls outside were grey, even the shadows it cast looked eerie. Lily straightened at once; she was feeling inferior to a door! She was not going to see the end of it. With that she slammed the door open, maybe a little to hard and stalked up to the counter. Inside the room was dark and empty, a lone chair stood solo in the corner. The counter was riddled with items; a pair of glasses lay upside down next to a quill and inkbottle. Parchment lay in unruly piles, over the counter, a lamp stood by itself on the far edge, and a measuring was rolled in a neat heap next to a small, shinny bell. Behind the desk stood many rows of bookcases, but instead of books lay small boxes.

Just as she was about to investigate further, the door swung open and a tall boy with tremendously chaotic hair and hazel-green eyes strode in pompously, stood in front of her and rang the undersized bell which emitted a soft ringing sound.

"Do excuse me.... whatever you're called," Lily said in an aggravated tone, "but I do believe I was in line first."

He turned self-importantly and looked down his elegant nose at her. "The name is Potter and I will forgive you for your insolence this once."

"Well- sorry didn't quite catch the name, so I guess I'll have to improvise, Pompous will do. Well Pompous, I afraid you'll just have to live with my insolence because I believe in human rights and I also believe I was first in line, therefore I would like to remain there."

The boy just stood there imitating a gold fish; every time he tried to speak he changed his mind. "Pompous, being chauvinistic is one thing but being as stupid as gold fish is a whole new concept. Join them together instead of a brain you've go the ego the size of China."

"Are you criticizing me?" he gaped. "It seems that way doesn't it?" replied Lily.

"Are you aware that you're not going to be forgiven for that?" he told her abandoning the gold fish look.

"Do you're shoulders hurt?"

"No. Why?"

"Because having an ego the size of China must pretty big therefore it would be very heavy especially seen as its population is rapidly growing, wouldn't you agree, Pompous?" The young girl answered.

The two continued squabbling until an eerie voice bought the out of their fight, "May I help either of you or are you satisfied to bicker amongst yourselves?" the voice had come from an old man leaning against a dusty shelf, "Tell me, are you friends with each other but are only having a small tiff? Or do you advise me to stay?"

"The latter I guess. We like each other as much as dogs like cats," explained Potter-boy snobbishly.

"Well, then I guess you both know that given time cats and dogs can get on very well. Just as I have seen many people meet their worst enemies here before, but in their future they have learnt to get on VERY well indeed." The old man commented

"My worst nightmare," Lily muttered.

"So I suppose you are both first years, ready and excited to purchase you're wands? Hmm?" the old man asked, "which of you is first?"

Both bushed and nudged each other trying t get in front. The only outcome they got was when Potter tripped over Lily's foot and they both tumbled to the ground, "Potter GET OF ME!"

"Well if you had not've been so anxious to get to the counter fir- OUCH! You punched my eye!" he yelped.

"GET OF ME! I am warning you!" Lily screamed, with out further advice he jumped up leaving Lily to stand up rubbing her back.

"Now I have a black eye because of you!" he whimpered.

"To bad!" she shot a disgusted look at him. "Oh and to answer you question sir, I was here first." She directed this remark to the old man.

"Yes but sir I am a Potter and I am to be RESPECTED," he said arrogantly.

"Yes, yes it's James Potter isn't it? Well I am afraid pureblood or not rules apply, this young lady was here first. So I suggest you wait you're turn." At first James hesitated then grumpily stalked over to the chair and sat down with a 'thump'.

"Sulking," Lily remarked in an undertone.

"I heard that!" James growled back.

"I meant you to!" she shouted exasperatedly, turning to the old man she said, "I would like to purchase a wand. Mr...."

"Well you've come to the right place!" shot James.

Ignoring James the old man told Lily, "Mr Ollivander is the name, by the way miss Evans, It's not the person who choses the wand, young lady, the wand chooses the owner. Wands are not slaves to their masters; they do not always follow their master's commands. However we are not here to dwell on fear. Please present you're wand arm."

"My what-?"

"He means you're hand you write with! Are you muggle-born or something?" Lily shot James a quizzical look and stuck out her left hand. She felt a tug and looked down to see a measuring tape calculating the distance from her shoulder to her wrist, then her wrist to her middle finger, and then it measured the circumference of her neck and around her waist. The measuring tape stretched itself over all four of her limbs, and down her waist-long hair. Finally the man waved his wand and the tape fell motionless on the floor.

"Ah now let's see, hmm yerse, Dragons heartstring ten inches, mildly flexible," he took a box off the shelf and retrieved a wand from inside, then handed it to Lily, she stared stupidly at it. "Well give it a wave!"

Feeling extremely foolish, Lily waved the wand around her head as if she were a windmill. She stopped in her wand in mid air after brandishing it for ten seconds and... nothing happened.

"Hmm, ah yes unicorn hair, six inches, not very flexible." She flicked it this time still nothing happened.

"Hippogriff furs twelve inches." Nothing happened.

"Phoenix ash, thirteen inches," nothing happened

"Fairies hair, eight inches," still nothing happened. Every time one wand failed to work on Lily, Mr. Ollivander seemed to get more and more excited. It wasn't long before a large pile of discarded wands had gathered at her feet.

The next time Mr Ollivander went in search for a wand he was gone a long time, "I wonder... yes, yes it would make sense, hmm." The muttering of the old man could be heard before he was seen. "Here Miss Evans, be careful now!" he held the wand by the tips of his fingers as if it held some noxious disease. "This wand would belong to someone who is good at charms and has quick reflexes. Possibly for someone good at Quidditch." James shot her a hateful look. "Centaurs soul, fourteen inches, highly flexible and... dangerous. Careful now!"

As soon as Lily touched the oak handle she felt tranquillity flood her veins she felt cool breeze ripple through her hair. Mr. Ollivander and James where wide eyed with terror, the amount of power she could stimulate from a lone wand was amazing. She swished her wand gold sparks flew everywhere. Spilling over the darkness, light travelled through the room, Lily gasped, the wand hummed with contentment, as soon as it had started the gesticulation stopped with a sudden halt.

"How very curious! Yes, yes I guess it would make sense- but how very interesting," Mr Ollivander muttered then suddenly looked up, "That will be twelve sickles thankyou Miss Evans."

"Do excuse me sir," said Lily handing over the coins, "but what is so curious?"

"Well child, it just so happens that I have had that wand as long as I can ever remember, no one has ever before has had a wand with centaurs soul, in fact this is the only wand in history to contain such an article as precious as that. Never have I either seen such an outcome from a wand before! Yes, Miss Evans, I can remember every wand I have ever sold, and to be able to hold control something with such power requires talent, oh so much talent indeed, only one other person before you has been able wield that vigour, Miss Evans, but I'm sure in time, you will understand." He gave her shoulder a slight pat, "you must be careful, many perils lay a head young lady, and you will be needed."

"Ah hem!" said James Potter from his seat, "may I enquire as to if I may be purchasing a wand this millennium!"

"Yes you may!" retorted Lily, in an aggressive tone; "I was just leaving!" with out another word she stomped out of the shop and onto the cobblestone streets, slamming the door behind her.

Huffily, she made her way to the Leaky Cauldron, people starred at her as she passed her furry as red as her hair. James Potter was an arrogant, pea- brained, prejudiced, chauvinistic, egotistical pert. "Humph!" she said as she kicked the wall, which was a mistake because she stubbed her toes in the action, she groaned attracting bemused stares from various witches and wizards nearby.

Finally she reached the pub, before she entered she took a deep breath so she didn't look so perturbed. The room was smoky and busy at first she had trouble finding Bella and her old friend, but in the end, she found them seated next to the window. "Lilee!" she heard Bella cry, "'Appy Birthday!" she pulled Lily into a tight hug; Melody smiled mischievously, and gave her a short embrace. Her French friend presented her with a tightly wrapped present.

Lily gasped, "Thank Bell'!" she held her present tightly in her arms; it was the new addition of 'Quidditch through the Ages'.

"And..." she passed Lily a cage that held a beautiful owl; her pallid white feathers were hinted with red. And her eyes were just like Lily's, picturesque emeralds. "'Ere is a little friend, she looks so much like you."

Lily slammed her new book down on the table, "Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou SO much Bella, she is so gorgeous!"

"I think you paid each other a compliment there!" teased Melody handing her a large present bag. "I thought you could save it for the ball in year three. Don't worry about the size; it adjusts itself to fit the wearer. Cleaver isn't it?" Lily slowly opened the bag; there inside lay the most exquisite dress robes. These however were different to dress robes; it looked more like a long dress than anything else. It was made out of green silk with beautiful rubies glittering around the neck, which was pretty low. The flowing sleeves were slitted as was the lower skirt; the cuts ran past her knees.

"Thanks Mel!" exclaimed pulling Melody into a bear hug. "I really appreciate it!" she turned to Bella and gave her another hug.

"Well 'ow bought we leave you're owl and prezzies 'ere, where Tom will keep an eye on dem, and go clothes shopping for clothes for me you and Melody! Der is no way you are going to school wid clothes zat are like zat!" she indicated to Lily's baggy jeans and tatty shirt.

"Yay! Do you have muggle money Bella? Good, good, can't wait, a shopping spree just like old times, hay old girl, and now we have Lily to make it even better! Come on what are we waiting for?" Melody exclaimed excitedly, at that time Lily and Bella burst out laughing at Melody's obsession for shopping.

They placed Lily's gifts with Tom, who explained too an anxious Lily that her owl (now named Jade) would be fine. They bounded of happily towards the muggle world impatient to start shopping. "So Lilee! Do yoo want to start at hair accessories and den move down to make-up den to shoes den finally to CLOTHES!"

"Okay Bella whatever you say," said Lily in a far of voice starring at all the wonderful stores she was about to explore. Never had she been aloud to go shopping, only Petunia had ever gone to this sort of place. "Wow!" Lily let out a gasp.

"C'mon Lily it's better when you're actually in there rather than standing out here gaping at it!" Melody said encouragingly, "I bet I can beat you both to the hair salon!" with out any further warning she was off dodging trolleys and various people. Bella and Lily were not far behind her, but with her spirit of shopping and love of colourful, shiny objects offcourse Melody won.

Her two older friends forced Lily in to getting an inch off her hair, which didn't make too much difference but sure did make it look more shinny and lively. Bella purchased many hair accessories for herself and Melody, and thousands for Lily to take to Hogwarts.

Next they ventured to the Make-up stores, Lily wondered if they made a fortune after they had departed. The assistant looked as though she was going to have a heart attack when Melody dumped a colossal mountain of blush, lipsticks, eyeliners (assortments of pencils and liquid ones) and many more items.

Lily loved shoes, but she soon found buying them was much more enjoyable. Her petite feet would fit into most of the more delicate shoes, Melody and Bella each treated themselves to five different pairs of shoes, but mainly they focussed on Lily. They collected elegant black high-heals, fragile thongs decorated with glitter. Leather, high-healed boots that reached to her knees, stunning stilettos in various colours, wedges and platforms that looked as though they were skyscrapers, they also bought her a pair of casual school shoes and a pair of expensive sandshoes for flying lessons.

"Ah now all we need is CLOTHES!" cried Melody excitedly, like a child who was about to receive a rather large lollypop. Eagerly they walked into the main mall ready to buy as much clothes as possible.

"Oh! Look at this!" "Wow is that real silk!" "Who cares if it's expensive? I'm getting it!" "Ah... nice colour!" "Ooh, that's cut kinna low... I'll get it!" "D'you think this is too tight!" "Lil' try this on!" "No way do you see how short and low it is?" "Oh please try it! Just a bit of fun!" "Smashing Tiger!" These remarks were often exchanged throughout the mall. They dressed each other up in the most unbelievable clothes.

By the end of their shopping fetish, Lily had received twenty-five new tops, eight pairs of pants, ten skirts and five dresses.

"Well!" said Melody brightly, "That concludes our shopping spree!"
