Lily woke to find she was still underwater, but she could breath. The young girl looked around there above her stood water creatures with tales, there hair was yellow and green, and their teeth were rotten they held spears in their hands. Merpeople. Lily had read about them in 'Hogwarts a History'. They crowded about her, the females stroked her dark, red locks.

Finally a Merman swam forward and spoke to her, "We have received information that you are to be the new sorceress." Lily nodded, perplexed, "We have always been loyal servants to the ones before you, we are delighted that once again there is a witch as talented as you. We hereby forfeit our race to you, as a gift we present you with the ancient magic of the Merpeople."

All the tailed-humans bowed. Lily spoke to them, "W-what is you magic?"

"One that allows you to perform wandless magic. It shall not work until the ceremony, on the eve of Christmas." Said the same merman.

"What must I do to get the magic?" Lily asked curiously.

"Hold out your arm," Lily held out her arm to the merman, he slit it with a dagger and then did the same to his own, and then he pressed them together. The blood flew and entwined through each other's veins, Lily gasped, it was an extremely painful experience. "It is time for you to leave, you must come back in your third year here. Remember to come!" with that all the merpeople swam away.

Lily swam to the surface. She checked her robes for her wand it was there. The young girl was about to dry herself with the drying-charm but she remembered she hadn't learnt that one.

"Typical, the one spell I didn't learn is the one I need most!" she muttered to herself.

She walked up the slope still sopping wet towards the large, oak doors. There she could make out the massive outline of the tall man who had chauffeured the first years across the lake.

"Ah! There ya are Miss Evans, Professor Dumbledore told me you were all right, tha' was a very noble thing ya did for Mr. Pettigrew. My name's Hadgrid, yourself?"

"Ah, Lily." She replied.

"Nice name, the Sorting Ceremony is over and the school is eating dinner, this way! Over 'ere!" he led her through a door which led into a huge hall full of students eating dinner. They turned their heads to stare at Lily as she and Hadgrid walked towards the teacher's table at the front of the hall, raised higher than the rest of the tables on a small platform.

"Look! There's the Evans girl who was kidnapped by the Merpeople!"

"She's sopping wet!"

"How did she escape I wonder!"

"Wow she's cute, look at her hair!"

A series of whistles and catcalls erupted amongst the boys at various tables, things like "I bags her first!" and "Wow Babe", could be heard.

When Hadgrid and Lily had walked up the steps on the professor's platform the red-haired girl swung round and presented the rude finger at all the crude schoolboys in the crowd, everyone became silent. Lily turned back around blushing at the teachers; she caught sight of the headmaster. He had long silver hair and a beard that could have been tucked into his belt; his blue eyes twinkled behind a pair of half-moon glasses. She could have sworn he winked.

A stern looking lady with black hair, which she had woven into a modest bun, came round the table and cast a spell that dried Lily instantly.

"Welcome to Hogwarts Miss Evans. I am Professor McGonagall. To sort you into your house I must place this hat on your head and it will sort you into your most promising house." The professor said briskly. Lily's eyes widened like saucers, a HAT? What kind of a school sorted kids into various groups via a ragged, old hat? The young girl reminded herself that this WAS a school of magic.

"Now, Miss. Evans, please take a seat," Professor pointed to a stool of the stage which faced the rest of the school. The strict teacher placed the hat on her head. Lily, red with embarrassment, from having to sit in front of the whole school, got the biggest fright.

"Why hello there Miss Evans!" WHAT ON EARTH! Had she gone mad, the hat was TALKING to her.

"No dear, you are perfectly, sane. Oh! You are related to Azure O'Connor! Another sorceress I see, five have passed through under my hat. Three in Slytherin and two in Ravenclaw. But where to put you? Hmm, yes cunning you are...SLITHER-! But wait; no I sense much more power in you. Smart, yes very wise you are... RAVENC-! No, no. That brings us down to Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, definitely NOT Hufflepuff, you have a brain though you are rather kind... hmm, never have I spent so much time on someone before, you are a riddle, some form of magic prevents me from looking deep into your brain... but here! Yes certainly bravery, to live in such mourning. It is either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor... something tells me bravery, above everything else."

"You must then be GRYFFINDOR!"

Cheering erupted from a table far right, of the stage. Professor McGonagall whipped the hat of Lily's head and indicated for her to sit at the cheering table.

She sat down at the table, distancing herself from others, so that one seat was in between her and a snobbish-looking girl. All of the male population at Gryffindor table was clapping her, everyone that is, except for four scowling boys at the end of the table. (Give you three guesses as to who they are!)

'Just my luck!' Lily thought to herself, 'Pothead and cohorts are in my house, wonderful.'

Suddenly, Lily's eyes fell upon the table laden with all types of delicacies. Roasts, Yorkshire pudding, stews, soups and many savoury, dainty dishes covered the table. Not having a big appetite, Lily helped herself to a small bowl of stew and a piece of crusty bread.

After a fulfilling meal, the Headmaster, Professor Dumbledore rose from his chair. "Welcome to another, fantastic year at Hogwarts! I am sure you are all excited about starting a year full of diligent working!" everyone groaned. "Mr. Filch would like me to remind you that there is to be no magic in the halls between classed, Dung bombs are forbidden..." he went on to along speech of what this Filch-caretaker had told him to remind the school about. "Ah and would Miss Evans please see me after dessert. Thank- you students, now for the most exciting part of the feast- the dessert!" he beamed around at the students.

Lily was exceptionally worried, what had she done! She hoped it was nothing to do with becoming a sorceress, but something in the back of her mind told her it was something along the same lines.

When finally the hall began to empty, Lily walked slowly up to the teacher's table. 'Ah, Miss Evans, thankyou for meeting me." he paused, "Miss Evans I have been informed that you are to be the sixth sorceress. If you are willing that is. And if you are, I am afraid you will have to miss out on going home this Christmas, as you will be taking part in the ceremony of becoming a sorceress. After that I will employ a trainer. I believe you met the merpeople? Sorry that you had to have such a frightful first day. They gave you the wandless magic I presume? Good, good, if you are able, try and visit them, they enjoy the company. Well good night Miss Evans." Professor Dumbledore gave a small not.

As Lily started to walk away the professor called after her, "Oh and Miss Evans, if you ever feel a bit left out or bullied in Gryffindor tower because you are different, I would be able to situate you in different quarters. Professor McGonagall will show you to the tower." He indicated to the doorway where Professor McGonagall was standing.

()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*( )*()*()*()*()

Lily thanked Professor McGonagall for showing her to Gryffindor a Tower, and climbed through the portrait hole and into the common room. She was too tired to acknowledge the desks, tables and over-stuffed chairs and the homely feeling the crackling fire gave. She walked straight up the girl's staircase to where a sign said 'First Years'. She opened the door to find twelve other girls giggling and applying make-up to each other. Lily looked upon the giggling girls; at first impression she knew they were bimbos. Ok so she had make-up but only used it on special occasions.

When they saw her they giggled, "Hello-giggle- you –giggle- you must be Lily E-Evans." Said a girl in a very dumb way.

"Er yes, um what are you laughing at?" Lily inquired.

"U-um-giggle- nothing! Just-just practising for t-tomorrow when we get to see the –giggle- boys!" answered a highly blonde girl sitting on a mattress as if she were the queen of England. Lily took in the room, there were thirteen beds lined up against the walls each had a small desk, a wardrobe and a nightstand, on the opposite side of the room there were two bathrooms.

"Oh l-look at –giggle- her hair. Lily do you want us to dye it blonde- giggle-?" asked yet another girl.

"No. She wouldn't, it is, like, so totally better red, well not as good as black!" said the raven haired girl she had sat next to at dinner, "I mean, black is more modest, but compared to you bimbos, she might get some boys after I through with them!"

At once Lily preferred the bimbos, but this girl seemed to be very... possessive. It was true she did have nice black hair but it clashed badly with her brown-grey eyes and bony figure. At once she reminded her of Petunia, nope she didn't like this girl one bit.

"Y-yes Natasha -giggle- you are t-the best l-looking out of us, t-thankyou so much –giggle- for t-telling me to dye my hair a l-lighter shade –giggle- doesn't it look good Lily –giggle-"

"Er, um I think I left my book in the common room!" is all Lily could say as she rushed down the stairs, trying to get away from the absolute airheads and snob.

She sat down with a THUMP! On the closest chair and stared at the flames. She decided to stay down there until a bit later when the rest of her dorm would be asleep. Suddenly she heard footsteps from the boy's staircase. (And guess who? Yep got it in one Pompous and cronies.)

"Ah, Hello Evans... wonderful to see you." Sirius grinned.

"Yes we never did get you back did we? Hmm what do you say mates." James snarled as Sirius and Remus nodded brightly, Peter however looked quite put- off.

"Well J-James she did kinna save me?" Peter stuttered.

"The Peter you don't have to take part in torturing Evans this once, just so you're even, then next time you can join in." James explained with the patience of a pre-school teacher.

"Oh." The smaller boy responded and walked back up the stairs.

"So as I was saying Evans, we never did get you back, did we? Nope. But seen as you helped our friend I am willing to allow you a choice... you may leave our presence and never bother us again, or you can be pranked by us."

Lily just raised an eyebrow, and continued to stare at the fire.

"Excuse me Evans?"

No response.

"Ok dudes, she's dumb and deaf!" said Sirius.

"Don't wet yourself with excitement Black." Lily retorted hotly.

"So now that I have your attention, Evans, will you get lost or will we have to prank you."

"Neither."

"I guess well have to prank her don't you think so, Remus, Sirius?" James advanced towards Lily, Sirius and Remus followed suit.

(Quote: a bit taken from Charlies Angels) "Okay if you think you can beat me... when we finish this fight you are gonna be unconscious on the floor. But since I don't have my trusty wand with me I gonna have to do this single-handed. And in the end; I'm gonna moonwalk outta here." She said in an American accent.

"Well dudes she must now find her place as the victim of the Marauders!" James said advancing towards Lily.

"Nice to know you have self esteem, Pretentious!"

"You will never beat almighty James Potter, that kick that you gave me on the train wouldn't knock a fly out!" the self-important boy proclaimed trying hard not to rub the big bruise on his face caused by the small girl.

"Well then Potter, your pain tolerance must be somewhat less than a fly. Make your first move with that wand then I will make mine."

The three boys crowded about her the wands raised.

"Emaldous!'

"Pimlious!"

"Wingarduim Leviosa!"

And... nothing happened. "Sorry guys I placed a non-effect charm on myself after the incident on the train."

"But that's grade seven standard!" exclaimed Remus, "Dudes, remember that thing James's dad taught us! About removing charms!" all the boys began thinking hard.

"As painful as it is for you to think, this may be even more painful." The boy stared at her in horror.

With that Lily punched Sirius under the chin, kneed Remus in the stomach and elbowed James in the forehead all in the same time, all of them dropped like flies on the ground. And guess what she did then? She moonwalked out of the room.

()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*( )*()*()*()*()

The next morning, everything was an absolute uproar. Lily woke to the sound of multiple girls screaming and acting hysterical. As if someone had inserted scorpions down their pants.

"OMG! Lily! You haven't applied make-up yet! Just look at the state of your- giggle- hair! Quick! Get dressed into something –giggle- cute! Hurry!" the eleven-year-old redhead was met with a series of these remarks.

"Uh guys, classes don't start for what another... THREE HOURS!" Lily said surveying her clock. "I need s...l...e...e...p!" she said dragging the word out as if it were elastic.

"Ah Evans, like seriously, you are dumber than these bimbos, every girl in this school wears make-up! " Natasha commented, poshly smearing a mudpack over her cream complexion. At once Lily knew she hated make-up, if these airheads and the snob liked it than, no, nope, nien, nada she certainly was not gonna use it.

'Well there is one girl." Lily ventured.

"Who... why, she must either be a huge airhead or some major tom-boy... who- I mean WHOM is it?" Natasha questioned.

"Ah, hmm... me!" Lily answered in mock surprise. With that she picked out some robes from her bag, her pair of school shoes and the most non-feminine clothes she could find and stalked of to the bathroom. The last thing Lily remembered hearing before she closed the door was Natasha muttering something about how snobbish Lily was.

()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*( )*()*()*()*()

In the shower Lily suddenly remembered the mermaids and what had happened the previous evening. Looking down at her arm she saw no scab but a thin silver scar. Lily sighed and wondered then, what lay before her, she knew then that her life would never be the same.

Breakfast in the Great Hall

"AH! Lily Evans... the boys in my dorm have told me of your radiant beauty. But nothing they have said can compare to this swan before me. Will you take the honour no-no the privilege of being my girlfriend? (Shrek) Oh- yes... by the way my name is Gilderoy Lockhart!" the boy before Lily stood sanctimoniously in front of her, his arms spread out as if embracing his own self-importance.

"Are you talking to me?" the redhead spluttered.

"Yes m'dear... aren't you so lucky? I, the smartest, handsomest..."

"Egotistical, repugnant, pompous, conceited, bratish figure of the male gender..."

"Are you talking to me?" the boy with honey blonde hair and blue eyes spluttered.

"Yes m'dear... aren't you so lucky? You've been turned down by Lily Evans, Au revoir!" without another word she flicked her wand and Gilderoy was sent rocketing towards the Hufflepuff were he landed splat in the jam.

All the heads is the Great Hall turned to face Lily, "AND THAT GOES FOR ANYONE ELSE WHO ASKS ME THAT SAME QUESTION!" the girl shouted.

"Hey Evans!"

"WHAT Potter, I'd rather not converse with the worlds biggest chauvinist."

James walked up to Lily so that no one could eavesdrop on their tête-à- tête. "Just wanna let you know Evans, you may think you are oh so clever that you won the fight last nigh. But that was just a fluke, watch your back."

"Potter. A fight is only a fight when both parties are willing to take part, as I remember I was not doing anything to disturb you. And if you DON'T mind I'm on my way to Charms, I would prefer you to leave my presents."

"You will pay, Evans." James said menacingly.

"Looking forward to it."
