Chapter 2
The Perfect Mistake
After leaving the compartment the girl started laughing to herself. Well, now that is a good start. She thought to herself. Suddenly, students started coming out of almost every compartment as the train slowed down coming to a final stop.
-This is it!- she said to herself.
She got her trunk at the end of the train and headed outside.

Students poured into the Great Hall. Today, it seemed, there were more students than Hogwarts could take. Apparently with the return of Voldemort many feared Hogwarts was the only safe place left. Although Voldemort or any of his followers haven't done anything since the end of the school year many feel that it will soon happen. He never waited this long and there is no apparent reason why he should...
Draco took his seat scanning the Great Hall but not quite knowing what he was looking for. He spotted the dream team and turned his gazed away disgusted at their happy faces. Assholes, how can they be happy at a time like this? Focusing his gazed on the teacher's staff instead he noticed a few differences. There is a new face, probably the new DDA teacher and Snape is missing, now, isn't that a big surprise? Draco couldn't help but to smirk at himself, that arrogant smirk he is well known for.
Without losing any more time Professor McGonagall brought the first years students in front of a very old and ragady hat that many students before them had worn.
-This is the sorting hat. When I call your name please come up and place the hat on your head. The hat will sort you into your house. Gryffindor, Hufflepuf, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. During your stay at Hogwarts your house will be your family. You will be awarded points for your achievements, however any miscrepancies and points will be taken away. At the end of the school year the school with the higher score will be awarded the house cup. Are there any questions?
The scarred first years shook their heads from side to side.
-Good then. Anna Amorba.
And so the sorting continued, name after name was called and many students were placed in the four houses. When the sorting was over McGonagall stood up and began to speak again.
-Welcome to Hogwarts-she said with a huge smile-We will soon begin our feast; however, there are a few more announcements in order. Last year Hogwarts entered the exchanged student program and Susan Bones from Hufflepuff was chosen to represent our school from the United States. Taking her place is a young girl from Namenots Salguod School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in New Your, U.S.A.. She will be attending her sixth year here at Hogwarts. So, student please welcome Mrs. Allison Firel.
With that said a girl began walking down the hallway straight to Proffesor McGonagall. All of the students turned around with curiosity at the sound of footsteps. She just kept walking glancing at a few faces. She suddenly stopped as her eyes met the eyes of a not so peculiar boy. Harry Potter was staring right at her and when their gaze met they both held their breath for a second. The hair on the back of her neck stood on its end and she felt a cold chill run down her spine. Suddenly she realized this and kept walking. No one else noticed, for even though it seemed like an eternity this scenario took place in just a few seconds.

At first Harry was surprised that the hat hadn't sung but since he had missed more hat songs then he cared to count, this really didn't bother him much. The usual sorting took place and Harry stared blankly into his plate. Nowadays it took a lot of effort for him to be interested in something. Always alert for news of Voldemort, Harry barely ever slept and was always looking for signs of his coming back. He wasn't afraid of Voldemort, he was just tired of everything due to the recent events in his life. But when McGonagall called out a name Harry lifted his head searching for her, completely unaware of why he was doing so. Th girl started walking down the hall. Harry took in her figure. She was somewhat tall for a girl, about five foot six, shinny brown hairs that reflected dark red in the light. He really couldn't see her body figure for it was covered by school robes. What was very admiring about her was the way she walked, her presence, her mystique, for although she wasn't ugly, she wasn't extremely pretty, and yet mmore then half of the boys turned their heads to watch her walk. Then, for a moment she looked straight into his eyes and he felt naked, like all he had ever tried to hid was laid before him. However, what worried Harry the most was the prickling sensation on his scar. It wasn't pain but he didn't know what it was, and that bothered him. What can this mean? Fora moment he thought she looked as surprised as him, but it was probably just a trick of the mind. He watched her walk the rest to the hallway with his mind full of curiosity.

So that is the big mystery! Draco thought as McGonagall finished her announcements.
Allison walked up to the stool, sat down and placed the hat on her head. The silence was contagious as the students waited for the last person to be placed into a house. Allison hoped this wouldn't take very long and she was extremely surprised to hear the hat speaking into her mind. In fact, she almost jumped.
-Busy Ms. Firel?
- No...
-Really? Then why are you in such a hurry to leave?
-Curiosity I guess..., so... which house do I belong in?
- Patience, I'm afraid it is not that simple my dear.
- How come?
- Deciding where a student should be placed is not a simple task.
- Well, then why was it that some of them went so fast, I mean they barely put you on and you knew.
-Everyone is different, that is the beauty of it.
Chuckling she said
- Yes, the beauty of it.
- Clever, friendly, courageous, audacious and ambitious. How can I place you somewhere if you belong everywhere?
- Just pick one. I'll only be here for the year anyways.
- I can't do that dear, oh no. Such difficult choice, so little time. Your house will help you shape yourself, help you become the person you want to be.
- I don't believe in that so much. I believe you are who you are and as long as you are aware of that you can be placed anywhere. Yes, people can have an impact on you but as long as you hold your grounds as an individual you will become who you should become.
- Wise words and yet so foolish. I've narrowed it down to Griffindor and Slytherin. But where to put you?
- How can I belong in two houses? I cannot have two personalities.
- No not two but a blend, a mixture along the line, who could have thought one with Griffindor and Slytherin within herself would ever exist? Great surprises are promised to come soon and you Ms. Firel better keep both your eyes open.
She couldn't understand it, for a moment she thought it was talking about something besides her, not her but something in her what could that possibly mean? And what was that nonsense about keeping both her eyes open? Surprises, what surprises? Before she could ask any of those questions though the hat said:
- For the whole period of my existence I never came to this. I know not where to place you for you are divided, but worry not my dear for you would belong anywhere. Since I cannot make my mind I have decided to place you in GRIFFINDOR!
That last word was very loud bringing cheers from the Gryffindor table. Before McGonagall had removed the hat from her head she managed to ask:
- Wait, why did you choose Gryffindor as opposed to Slytherin?
- Easy, alphabetically.
She was quite surprised by the answer and it also annoyed her a little. Why hadn't it been able to place her somewhere? Did that mean she didn't belong at Hogwarts? No, it said so itself, she belong everywhere the only question was if that was a good thing. She then took a seat at the end of the Gryffindor table. The food was delicious but what Allison loved the most was the ceiling that showed a display of stars, an exact copy of the sky outside.
