Where is she? I knew I shouldn't have left her by herself. Stupid cute pair
of shoes. They just HAD to be on sale. Argh, I'll just search for her mind.
Nope, not you, or you... or you and ew. There you are! Music section second
floor. I wonder what music she's listening to. Do we like the same kind of
music? Well, may as well find out. Damn I love my powers.
As Jean walked into the music store she read Rogue's thoughts. *That's good. I wonder what kind of music she likes. What if she thinks my kind of music is bad? Shit she's coming! No time to think, Rogue, just grab something!* Hmm... I wonder who "She" is. Oh well. It's time to go home.
Tapping Rogue lightly on the shoulder she asked, "What're you listening to, anything good?"
"No, well, yes, just not anything great."
"Oh, well, we should be heading back. The Professor just called and said dinners at six."
"Oh, yeah, ok, well then we should be heading back."
*Jean, are you too coming home?*
*Yes, we're heading out to the car right now.*
*Uhm, could you possibly talk to Rogue when you get into the car.*
*Talk? What about Professor?*
*You know what Jean.*
*I thought you were going to! I finally got her to trust me! You can't do this!*
*Jean, I need you to do this. It would mean a lot to me.*
*No.*
*It would help Rogue in the long run.*
Jean hesitated.
*She would have you to thank. It might be a little hard but in the long run I think it would be for the best.*
*Fine, just don't interrupt us for a bit.*
*Alright, good luck.*
As Jean came out of her mental conversation she picked up on a few stray thoughts from those around her. *...so deserve him...* *...wasn't MY fault he couldn't keep....* *... red, size 9 men's, black laces... * *.... Jean Grey, I love you with all my heart! Oh crap, did she just hear me?* Startled, Jean grabbed Rogue's arm and made her stop. Was that, Rogue?! Yes, she loves me! I knew it! I should kiss her right here right now. No, she was probably kidding. Why did I grab her arm? I should probably let go. Wow, I need to think. Ok, let go of her arm and we'll go think for a second or two. I said let go of her arm! Thank you arm.
"Wh- What's wrong Jean?"
"I just realized I forgot something. Why don't you head to the car and I'll be right back. Here are the keys." I've got to get out of here or I'll do something stupid. Hell, I could barely let go of her arm let alone prevent myself from kissing her. Would it really be such a bad thing to kiss her? Maybe find out how she reacts? No! That would ruin everything! She'd never speak to me again and I just couldn't deal with that. Why did I volunteer for a job that would make us closer? Because I love her. I don't love her I just think she's a really nice person who happens to be the love of my life. SHE IS NOT THE LOVE OF MY LIFE! What should I do? Uhm, look for a sign. I'll walk around with my eyes closed for just a second and when I open them I'll look forward. If there is anything that reminds me of Rogue, then I'll accept the fact that I'm hopelessly in love. If not, well, I'll try to be a good friend. Here goes.
Jean walked around and turned with her eyes closed praying to not run into anybody. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes.
Her shoulders sagged. Nothing, she was staring at a blank wall. The only thing on it was a funny shaped hole in it. Hmm, she thought, someone must have run into it or something. It kinda looks like a... a sock? That's really random. Wait, Rogue wears socks! Damnit, everyone wears them. I guess I'll just be her friend.
Jean walked to the car, her mind racing with thoughts of how to be friends with someone you love.
"Hey, sorry I took so long. I hope we aren't late."
"What did you forget?"
"Nothing, the Professor just asked me to get something for him."
"Oh, ok then."
Ok, time to talk. Oh man, she will never forgive me for talking to her about this. I know how she's going to react. If I'm lucky she'll just smack me. Well. Here goes.
"Is something wrong? I mean, are we moving to fast because I know that sometimes the Professor wants to speed up our progress." I shouldn't have started with that.
"I'm fine, why do you ask?"
"I've just been noticing you more lately." That didn't come out right. "Like you seem fine some days and then on other days you look like you just saw your own death or like you haven't gotten any sleep. I'm just trying to say I'm worried about you. And I'm not the only one who's concerned. The Professor knows that something is troubling you. He, uh, he thinks you've been having those dreams again."
"What do you know about my dreams?"
Oh god, she's pissed off. Why the hell did I agree to do this?! I did this because I love her. No, I'm just her friend.
"I see how much pain they cause you. I don't know what they're about but that doesn't mean I can't see how you react to them. You need someone to help you with them." I'll help you with them.
"And who the hell do you think can help me?!"
I could if you'd just let me! "Rogue, I think a lot of people would help you if you only asked. I know that the Professor would. He'd love to." I'd love to. "Look, I know how you must feel, living away from your parents in a different environment and developing your mutant power-"
"You don't know anything about the way I feel and you most likely never will so stop trying!"
"Rogue, where is this coming from? I only want to help!" Please don't get mad at me!
"I don't want your help! Damnit just stop the car!"
"Rogue-"
Shit! She thought as Rogue forced her to stop the car as the door swung open. Don't do this Rogue!
"Look, Rogue, I'm sorry if I upset you. Just get back in the car. It's starting to rain and I don't want you to get sick."
"Go to hell Jean."
Jean was fighting tears. "Come on, Rogue. If you want I won't even talk to you." Despite the fact that it would kill me not to be able to talk to you.
"Jean, if you don't drive away I will just turn around and never come back."
"You don't mean that. And the Professor would be able to find you."
"If you think I'm lying, read my mind."
Visions of Rogue walking over to her locker at the high school flooded into Jean's mind. She saw Rogue taking a pre-packed bag out and swinging it over her shoulder. Then she saw no more of Rogue, ever again.
"I'll tell the Professor you wanted a bit of exercise." She drove off as a single fell down her face. I don't want to leave her! But I don't want her to run away either. How did I ever get into this mess? God I hate the Professor.
She pulled into the garage and was greeted by Scott.
"Hey, did you two have fun?"
"I guess so. I'm really tired so I think I'm going to head to bed."
"Oh, well I'll bring something to eat up to your room if you want me to."
"I'm not hungry." She walked up the stairs and found the Professor blocking the way to her room.
*Well how did it go Jean? Where's Rogue?*
*It sucked, she hates me and she wanted to walk home. And I guess I have you to thank for that. Thanks jackass.*
*I didn't want to have you do that Jean! You were just there when the moment came up. I'm also very disappointed in you using such language. I thought I raised you to respect your elders.*
*Well you know what? I'm sick of being all good and preppy. In fact, I'm sick of listening to you. From now on, if you ever try to contact me with mind speech I will literally dump you out of your wheelchair and kick your crippled ass. How's that for respecting my elders?*
*Jean-* He wasn't able to finish his mind sentence due to Jean pushing him out of her way. Slamming the door, she cut off their mental link.
