I have seen the darkest night
Burn with brightest flame
Known the beauty of the elves
Heard the trees whisper my name
I have climbed the winding stairs
And heard the Nazguls' call
Seen the eye of lidless flame
And lived to tell it all
I have tread the rivers breadth
And lain on rock and stone
Walked the path no other has
And traveled far from home
I have felt true fear press in my heart
And held a ring of power
Viewed Mordor's blackened gates
Beheld it's jutting tower
The ancient glories of Rivendell
And Lothlorien are mine
The death filled halls of Moria
And dark places lost to time
I have stood upon the sandy shore
And watch ships sail away
The glory of the elves has gone
But there is one I'd wished would stay
No elven beauty marked his face
But light I saw within
Deep were the eyes so blue and bright
So scarred and marked by sin
No maiden, man, nor elven one
Was this love that I had had
And he was beyond all comparison
My handsome hobbit lad
His hair was brown as rain drenched earth
And smelled of wind and sea
I should have known that from the start
It foretold what was to be
He left me there upon the shore
Tears within my eyes
With all that we had endured
We were now to sever ties
My heart broke as he kissed my hair
And bid me happiness
How could he think I'd find that here
My heart would know no rest
He said that I had much to do
But I feared I lacked the heart
How could I go on living
While we were so far apart
I begged to let me follow him
To let me share this load
Who would there be to care for him
Along this unknown road
He smiled softly and dried my tears
Seeking to comfort me
Promised that he'd be alright
This was how it had to be
He whispered words of parting
And turned to board the ship
I watched him with a breaking heart
And bit my shaking lip
Nothing in my journeys
Compared to this sunset
The sorrow sought to burn my heart
Until I heard "not yet"
"Not yet" was what he said to me
And a realization soon was mine
As with any other parting
We would reunite in time
So I wait here in my home
Wait for that day to come
The day I journey o'er the sea
And two hearts again make one
