Black black Heart

Prologue: Endless forest of the night

Darkness... What a relief it was, to lie in the silence of the night. To let the last bitter and painful thoughts drift away as consciousness slowly faded. As he closed his eyes, the memory of that night's meeting crossed his mind.

An icy wind was shaking the swaying branches of the trees. The little clearing was miles away from Muggle inhabitation. It was a place of privacy; a place where the worst deeds could be committed without any fear of discovery. The sun had set an hour ago, and only the flickering light of the three wands illuminated the dark woods.

The young woman was pinned to the birch tree, her crimson blood staining the immaculate white bark. Her head hung pitifully down, and hot tears mixed themselves with the scarlet drops as they ran down her cheeks.

"Bitch! She bit me!"

"Calm down, Avery, it's no point to kill her just yet. We shall have our fun with this wrench."

Even though Lucius had his Death Eater mask on, Severus could feel the malevolent glint of his eyes; those pearl gray eyes that clouded with a shimmering mist when he was excited, angered or ready to kill. He glanced at the brown haired Muggle, at her sweet curves that were just barely covered by the shredded remnants of her clothes. Poor soul. Doomed, she was, there was no doubt about it.

"Lucius," Severus interjected, "Maybe we should get on with business... You do know how the Dark Lord hates waiting..."

And without a further word, he had taken out his wand. With a simple flick and a few spoken words, he had cast the Death Curse. The blinding emerald light rushed toward its victim and struck. It was so easy, so quick. He shut his eyes tightly behind his mask, and apparated.

A monster. That's what he was.

Unable to rest, he stood up. The mirror on the red oak dresser threw back his moonlit reflection.

Look into your eyes, Severus...

They say that eyes are the windows to the soul... They couldn't have been more right, could they? After all, darkness was all you could see when you peered into his eyes... Ink black, just like his soul, just like his mind, just like his heart.

Author's note: Very short chapter, but it's just an introduction to the story. Review if you like, although there isn't much to review, strictly speaking. I probably have a couple errors here, but as English is my second language (first being French), I'm doing my best here! Oh, and if anyone is interested to be my beta, please email me!
