Then Zack goes and asks Freddy if he's okay. . .Would you ask someone if they're okay when it's painfully obvious they're not?!?!?! Disclaimer: Nope, still don't anything. Shame!!!!!!! :( oh no, wait, I do own Lisa. . .okay, short explanation here! Unless I fell asleep in every of the 8 times I saw this film (yes, I really am that obsessed!), I think the only member of Freddy's family we actually saw was his mum at the parent's night (and that was only briefly). So, I've invented a little sister for our fave drummer. . . .I don't know why, it just seemed to fit with the story!
You'd Better Get Me To School On Time: chapter 3
"How's he doing?" Dewey said from the drivers seat.
"He's still unconscious and -" Katie felt Freddy's forehead "- he's getting warmer." Dewey swore under his breath, but everyone still caught exactly what it was he had said.
"How far is it to the hospital?" Marta asked, trying to change the subject.
"I think it's another ten minutes at least."
"Ten minutes?!?!"
"I can't go any faster." Marta sat back and fell silent. For at least another two minutes, everyone remained silent, unable to think of anything to say.
"How could this happen so quickly?" Alicia murmured, echoing Tomika's earlier question.
"Does anyone even know what's wrong with him?" Zack asked.
"Don't worry about it Zack," Dewey said, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. "He'll be okay. I mean, do you remember that time you accidentally tripped him up and sent him flying down two flights of stairs?"
"Oh yeah. That was funny."
"Wasn't Freddy knocked out though?" Marta asked with a smile.
"For about two minutes, yeah," Dewey replied, trying not to laugh.
"Why'd you bring that up though?" Zack questioned.
"I don't know - I mean. . .if he was okay after being knocked down two large flights of stairs -" Zack went red with embarrassment at that point "- then he's gonna be okay after this, right?"
"I guess."
"How did you manage to knock him down two flights of stairs anyway?" Tomika asked with interest.
"You weren't there were you? Well. . ." They all started talking about it - apart from Katie, who was trying to listen to the conversation and also trying to keep Freddy from slipping off her shoulder at the same time.
"Katie?" Katie turned to see Summer now sitting next to her. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah - why wouldn't I be?" Summer gave her a 'look'.
"Come on Katie. I know you like him, and now he's out cold, on his way to hospital?"
"Well, I - wait, wait. Hold on. Say that again."
"What part - the part about you liking him or the part about -"
"The part about me liking him!" Katie snapped quietly. "How do you know that?"
"It's written all over your face," Summer replied with a smile.
"Does everyone know about it?"
"Yes."
"Do you think. . .do you think that Freddy knows about it?"
"Yes, of course."
"Oh. . ." Summer patted Katie on the back sympathetically. Katie's gaze suddenly snapped to the boy still leaning on her shoulder.
"Freddy?" Everyone fell silent.
"What is it?" Dewey asked. His question was answered for him when Freddy moaned softly.
"Is he waking up?" Lawrence asked.
"No. . .I think he's dreaming," Katie answered, as Freddy shifted slightly. He whispered something in his fevered state.
"What did he say?" Alicia asked.
"I don't know," Katie replied, her eyes still fixed on Freddy. She leaned closer to hear what he was saying. Suddenly, she froze.
"Katie? What did he say?"
"Lisa. He said Lisa." There were several gasps.
"Who's Lisa?" Dewey asked, risking a glance over his shoulder.
"It's - it's his sister."
"Oh."
"Do you think he's dreaming about what happened?" Tomika said sadly.
"I don't know," Katie said softly, stroking Freddy's hair out of his face.
"What are y'all talking about?" Dewey asked. "What did happen?" The group shared uncomfortable looks.
"Well. . ." Katie started. . .
* FLASHBACK *
"Come on Lisa! Throw me the ball!" Freddy called to his four year old sister (he was eight at the time).
"You're too far away Fweddy!" She yelled back. Freddy smiled. She never could say his name properly. Mind you, she was only four. "Fweddy, come closer!"
"Okay, okay, calm down." He moved closer to her.
"Thank you!" She threw the little yellow tennis ball as hard as she could. He caught it easily. "Throw it back to me Fweddy, throw it back to me!"
"Okay!" He started teasing her lightly, pretending to throw the ball and then hiding it behind his back.
"FWEDDY!" She ran over and knocked him to the ground. The ball flew out of his hand and into the upper branches of a nearby tree.
"Oops."
"Let's get it back."
"Hold on Lisa. How do you think we're going to do that?" Lisa thought about it, frowning in concentration.
"Oh! You hold me up, and I will reach up and get it!"
"Lisa, that's too dangerous." Lisa's bottom lip started to wobble. "Don't cry." A tear fell from one of her large blue eyes. "Okay, okay, but you'll have to be incredibly careful."
"I will be!" Lisa chirped, her tears disappearing like magic. Freddy carefully picked her up and took her over to the tree.
"You be careful Lisa."
"I AM!" She roared, leaning up for the ball.
"Lisa, don't lean too far over!"
"Stop yelling at me Fweddy!" She yelled, leaning over even further. Suddenly, she overbalanced, and, as if in slow motion, toppled out of Freddy's arms, head first, to the concrete below.
"Lisa!" He yelled. His beautiful baby sister lay motionless on the cold, hard ground. There was something very wrong. Slowly, he knelt, and gently touched her arm. It was cold. She did not move. "Lisa, please talk to me. Lisa, I'm sorry. Lisa! Lisa! Wake up! LISA!"
* END FLASHBACK *
"She died," Katie finished flatly, unable to stop the tears from pouring down her face. She was not the only one crying. Marta was quietly sobbing in the corner, along with Tomika. Even Zack was scrubbing at his face with his sleeve.
"That's terrible," Dewey said quietly. "That's so terrible."
"I know." Freddy suddenly stopped moving about and called out Lisa's name. Katie took his hand. "It's okay Freddy. We're here." Freddy lay his head down on Katie's shoulder, resulting in the fact that only Katie could hear what he said next.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered.
A/N: don't flame me for that! I know, I'm so mean. . .but in a strange way, I think that's my favourite chapter so far. Please review!
