Disclaimer: I don't own KND; only my own ideas.
A/N: Hello KND readers! This is my first KND story, and my first fic after a long stream of writers blocks...I'm gonna have trouble with all the Number's in this fic, lol. Anyway, enjoy!
End of the Beginning
Number Five ran like hell. She could hear it behind her...taunting her with their laughing.
"Ha..ha..ha! Ha..ha..ha!"
Always that same rhythmic laughter...
"If it's gonna be like this, I'm not given up without a fight!" She decided. She stopped running and turned behind her. All around her were trees. And her...
"Goodbye Number five."
Number Five held up her fists.
A scream cut through the peacefulness of the forest.
Then silence.
(Headquarters)
"Where is Number Five?" Number One demanded, looking around the tree house. There was Number Two; Number Three was over there...Number Four was looking out the window...but no Number Five.
"Maybe we should call a National Search?" Number Two suggested. Number One shook his head. "Not yet. Wait a couple of days...maybe her family went on vacation."
"Wouldn't she have given us a pre-warning then? It's not like her to just walk off like that." Number Four said.
"No, it's not." Number One sighed.
"Maybe she's at a party!" Number Three cut in.
"Number Three, I definitely think she would have told us if she was going to a party."
Number One looked at the ceiling. Number Five had been acting suspicious lately... Almost like someone was after her...
"Call a National Search." He decided.
"Whatever." Number Four muttered.
"I still think she's at a party." Number Three said quietly.
Number One walked over to a giant screen on the far wall. He pressed a couple of buttons. A kid with blond curly hair appeared on screen.
"Yeah? Whataya want?" She said, taking a piece of gum out of her mouth and looking at it strangely.
"Um...yeah. We want to call a National Kid Search?"
"Who's missing?" the girl sighed.
"Number Five."
"Thank you for calling the National Kid Tracking Station. We will be back to you shortly." The screen went black for a minute. Then the kid came back on.
"We're sorry...the kid you are searching for could not be located...did you give me the right number?"
Number One began to panic a little." Number...Five." He said slowly.
Again, the screen went blank.
"We're sorry...the kid you are searching for could not be located...thank you for contacting the National Kid Tracking Station. Have a nice day."
Number One could feel sweat on the back of his neck. He turned to his teammates.
"Number Five...isn't here." He said.
"Well duh! That's obvious." Number Three giggled.
"She's...not anywhere."
A hushed silence fell on the room. All eyes were on Number One.
"The National Kid Tracking Station...couldn't find her." Number One said.
"Well...m-maybe she's on vacation." Number Two laughed nervously. "Like you said..."
"On another planet? Look, if the NKTS couldn't locate her...that means she took the KND locator off or..." he stopped.
"I thought it was impossible to take your locator off?" Number Four said.
"It depends on the way it was put on you." Number One cringed. Every KND got a tracker on him or her, in case something like this happened. He remembered where they had put HIS tracker...
"And my but still hurts from it." He muttered. Referring back to his teammates, he made a decision:
"We have to find her."
