As she stands at the crossroads between a forest and another village, Kikyou wonders which path she should take. She knew this was a metaphor for what she has become, a shell of her former self who hurts enemies and loved ones. Her life now was an abomination compared to her old self. "Stealing the souls of the dead just so I can continue to exist in this world for petty revenge. I should be above all this." Kikyou thought to herself.

Deciding to go into the village to help people and take her mind off the troubles, Kikyou immediately saw a small child lying on the road to the village unconscious. Kikyou could feel something different about this child. "This child... is dead..." Kikyou said aloud.

"Yes, I am dead. Do you intend to suck up my soul?" The ghost of the child's voice came from behind Kikyou.

Kikyou turned to face the ghost-child. "Miko, you are a shadow of your former self. I can feel it." The ghost said.

"A shadow, huh..." Kikyou said.

"Why not just let go? I do not seek vengeance against those that killed me." The ghost said.

"The one who killed me is a manipulative monster. He continues to live and causes more pain and suffering. I can not allow a monster like him to continue to live." Kikyou explained.

"Even if he is evil, is it right what you do now to fight him?" The ghost said.

"No. I know what I am doing is wrong. I wish it weren't this way." Kikyou said.

"Why not just let go? Others are fighting this man, correct?" The ghost said.

"Yes." Kikyou responded.

"Then just let go." The ghost said.

"I can't. Not until that man is dead." Kikyou responded.

"You're nothing but a hypocrite. How can you expect to defeat evil if you commit acts of evil yourself in order to live in this world? How different are you from this man that you fight?" The ghost said.

"My strength now is my freedom. Even though I must commit acts of evil in order to continue to exist in this world, I have more control over my actions then I did in life. You call my acts 'evil' and claim that 'evil cannot defeat evil' and yet you do not know how the world works. You were a child and had not but a very naïve view of this world. Go, find your place of eternal rest and leave my sight." Kikyou responds as she walks towards the village.

It pained Kikyou to admit to these feelings. She was supposed to be more than human, but she is now much like a Youkai. Much like her enemy Naraku. She should be above all this but she isn't. "How the mighty have fallen." Kikyou says underneath her breath as she enters the village.
