The Urge To Kick

~

Lieutenant Miller was walking toward the elevator when he first caught sight of the colonel. Miller saw that Col. Jack O'Neill, the commanding officer of SG-1, was already waiting by the elevator in his civvies. As he approached, Miller saw the colonel suddenly turn around and kick the wall. Miller froze where he stood. In only a second he decided he did not want to be around if the colonel was upset. He turned around and fled the area before the colonel caught sight of him.

Nurse Robinson saw the lieutenant as he rushed by but she thought nothing of it. When she reached the elevator, she heard a soft thud and turned just in time to see Col. O'Neill placing his foot back on the ground. Her business on level 26 could wait, it wasn't worth getting on the colonel's bad side. She quickly turned and walked back to the infirmary, telling everyone she saw to avoid the elevator for a while.

Major Carter left her lab with a report to give to General Hammond. She reached the elevator and saw her CO. Just as she was about to approach him and say hi, he suddenly kicked the wall. Carter stopped and stared. The colonel kicked the wall again, a little harder. On his face he wore a look of determination. Carter hesitated, she didn't want to bug the colonel if he was in a bad mood. The verbal assault that could follow such an untimely interruption was not something she looked forward to. So she watched as he kicked the wall a few more times.

Daniel saw Carter standing idly in the hall and approached her. He was about to greet her when she silenced him with a hand signal. Then she pointed to O'Neill who again kicked the wall, quite hard this time. Daniel and Sam looked at each other. Without words, they both tried to convince the other to go over and figure out what was wrong.

Teal'c saw his two teammates arguing and intervened. "What-" Sam cut him off with a finger to her lips and then pointed to the colonel standing by the elevator. O'Neill kicked the wall again. Teal'c signaled with a movement of his head that they should go over and interrupt. After a few seconds of silent arguing, the trio approached the colonel.

"Sir." Carter began as the colonel kicked the wall one last time. O'Neill slowly placed his foot back on the floor. "Is something wrong?"

"No." Answered O'Neill.

"Then why were you..." Carter asked as she motioned toward his feet.

"Oh... Just testing out my new steel-toed boots. These things are great! They should be standard issue." Just as the colonel finished, the elevator opened and three airmen rushed out. O'Neill bid his team goodnight and quickly entered the elevator, leaving them flabbergasted in the hallway.
