A/N: Don't own RK, and I think you all knew that!
CHAPTER 3: Separated
Eiji was sitting in the kitchen eating an onigiri with Tokio. It was morning out and the storm was still raging.
"Where could he be?" Eiji asked Tokio. She shrugged.
"I worry about him, but he never fails to return," Tokio said. "I guess he was held up by lots of work or something." There was a knock at the door.
"Who could be visiting in the rain? Do you think it's Saito?" Eiji asked, jumping up. Tokio stood up and walked to the door, opening it. It was Chou.
"Oh, hello, Chou-san. Please, come in," Tokio said, gesturing for him to come inside. Chou cast her an one-eyed glance, but walked in, his tall blonde hair just skimming the top of the door frame.
"Hey, Chou!" Eiji said, running over. He and Chou had become friends over time.
"Hey, little punk," Chou replied in his southern drawl, but his greeting wasn't as cheerful as it usually was.
"Would you like some tea?" Tokio asked, closing the door. Chou shook his head.
"No thank you, Tokio-dono," Chou said.
"So, Chou, why are you here?" Tokio asked. Chou looked her over before opening his mouth.
"I don't know if I should be telling you this, Tokio-dono," Chou said. "But........." Eiji's grin faded instantly, but Tokio still managed to keep a small smile on her face.
"Did something happen to Saito-san?" Eiji demanded. He grabbed Chou's sleeve. "Tell us!" Tokio stayed silent.
"Well........." Chou hesitated. He didn't want a crying woman and child on his conscious.
"Please, Chou-san," Tokio said gently. "Please tell me what happened."
"Saito-san," Chou said, unsure of what exactly to say. He decided to get right to the point. "Is missing."
Tokio looked down at the floor.
"What happened?" Tokio asked. She sat down on a cushion as did Chou and Eiji. Chou took a deep breath.
"There was an attack on all of the officers in Saito-san's area," Chou started. "And all but three were killed." He paused, waiting for some sort of cry from the two in the room, but there was none, so he continued. "We are clearing the bodies now and we haven't found Saito-san's body quite yet. We are labeling him as missing, but we cannot be sure. I'm real sorry, Tokio-dono, but I don't think there's anything you can do." Tokio stayed silent for a long time.
"We can look for him!" Eiji yelled. "We'll find him! The wolf never dies!" Chou gave him a sympathetic look, but Tokio hushed him.
"If Chou-san says that there's nothing we can do, then there's nothing we can do. We can only wait," Tokio said. "But thank you, Chou. I appreciate it, I really do. And I don't blame you at all. I know that you're all doing your best to find him and all the others." Chou stood and gave a slight bow to dismiss himself.
"I'm really sorry," Chou said. Then, he left. Eiji looked over at Tokio, who was staring at her hands in her lap.
"Tokio, don't worry," Eiji said, wrapping a small arm around her. "Saito- san'll be okay! I'm sure he will!" Tokio gave him a tender smile.
"Thank you, Eiji, but I think I need to be alone a while. Why don't you walk around the city and see what you can find out. Here's some money if you need it," Tokio said, slipping a few coins into his hand. Eiji stared at them and then watched Tokio walk out of the room.
"Tokio........." Eiji said to himself. "Saito-san! Why'd you leave her! Pride over life......... what about Tokio's life? She could die of heartache right now! JERK!" Eiji hissed angrily. Then, he jumped up and stormed out of the house into the cold rain.

Tokio walked into the room that she shared with Saito. She sat on the futon that she hadn't folded yet and picked up his pillow.
"Hajime, please stay alive........." Tokio sniffed, trying to hold back tears. "Please......... I'm not ready for you to leave yet........." Tokio stood up and took a book out of the shelf in the corner of their room. She sat down on the futon again and stared at the cover. The book was old and crumpled. It was covered in water stains from when it had fallen on the floor in the rain the night that she met Saito. She remembered how it had brought them together and she hugged it to her chest. Then, she buried her face in his pillow and let the tears flow.

Eiji ran through the rain, the wetness from the rain hiding his tears. He wiped at his face, turning down a street. He stopped at the corner to catch his breath.
"Where could they be looking?" Eiji gasped. "Where does Saito normally do his rounds?" Eiji vaguely recalled a time when Saito had told him that he could be found around a restaurant called the Akabeko. Hoping that he had remembered correctly, he ran in the general direction of the Akabeko.
A/N: HA! Finally got to read my reviews! HA! I thank all of my reviewers for reviewing because now I'm only two reviews away from my goal! Only two! That's good. Sorry that this chapter was boring and sad and uneventful, but I just had to tell all of you curious people what Tokio was doing, right? And I'll try to update this and all of my other fics soon, but I'm REALLY busy, so don't expect it to be up really soon... Okay, I'll stop blabbing now.
REVIEW RESPONSES (So many! @_@):
Nannon: I updated! Thanks for reviewing!
MissBehavin: EXACTLY right! You really CAN read my mind! It's sceeeery! Later on, you'll learn about Gimmei's past, but that's not until WAY later! Thanks for reading! ^_____^
Kairi7: Thanks for saying it's great. I bet you won't think that later because it gets long and... not fun, but maybe I only think that 'cause I'm writing it! Yes, it was broken, but I read your review and thank you so much!
Joselyn-Greenleaf: Thanks! I can't wait for ten reviews! JUST TEN! I'll go for more later. I'll give you a cookie, but... Saito doesn't like me, so I can't give him to you. He won't even hang around for a chat. Oh well. Maybe if I make him really cool in my story, he'll appreciate me more! Thanks for reviewing!
JadeGoddess: Maybe she's really strong. At least that's what I wanted her to look like. AND Saito WAS fighting two to one. So maybe she's not that strong.
4pawshiphop: Okay, I updated. Do I know you? Hmmm...
