She never really gave any thought to who she was, just the present. That
was how she was, there was no changing that. If she lost that part of her
identity, she would no longer be herself. She would loose all her power,
and all she had. But she didn't care. For some reason this youkai had saved
her, he had used the sword that cheated nature's design and he had saved
her life. So she followed him wherever he went, with an innocence that
amazes him. But that was her name, her real name. Innocence was a goddess,
cursed by the others for being naive enough to be tricked by the passing
stranger so now she was human, in the form of a small girl named Rin, who
by all right should have lost her innocence for what her eyes had
witnessed, but she hadn't, and that was what made her the perfect host for
Innocence.
He looked at the small girl; he caught her musing expression, one of far off thought that pertained to something off importance. He was a youkai lord; he should not have saved this human's life. But he didn't care. He had saved her, he didn't know why, but now she followed him wherever he went, with an innocence that amazes him. A sudden change in the wind caught his attention and he narrowed his eyes at the familiar scent. Naraku.
Innocence turned her head and felt it long before Sesshomaru warned her to run. She felt Malice, he was near, at least one of his puppets was, and Innocence hated him as much as was possible for her. He had suggested she be put to death for her ignorance, but the others had not been so cruel and just decided on banishment. Quickening her small legs, Innocence rushed onto the back of the large reptilian beast, uh-un[A/N I think that's what he's called... I read it in another fic, please correct me if I'm wrong].
Naraku felt his stomach churn as he reached Sesshomaru, there was a presence near by that sickened him, and he suddenly felt a bloodlust begin to rise within him. h squelched the desire to lash out and continued with his well-formulated plan. However, the nearer he got, the more his rage and anxiety took root in him, he could feel himself loosing control, slowly... NO! He was Naraku! He was above the primal instincts he had witnessed consuming Inuyasha. He would not be taken so easily! But he was...
Sesshomaru suddenly froze as he smelled the familiar change in Naraku's scent. He knew it from his encounter with the primal Inuyasha, but smelling it in Naraku certainly surprised him. That meant Naraku was a half-breed. So, for all the schemer's clever words about Inuyasha, the abomination, he was a hanyou himself? He did not have the reservations about killing Naraku in his full-blooded form that he did with Inuyasha, however, he didn't want to fight such a knowingly reckless opponent so close to Rin.
Innocence's heart skipped a beat. It WAS Malice! So Malice had been banished to a mortal body as well? She was snapped from her shock as the transformed Malice raised a clawed hand toward her. She didn't even see Sesshomaru's movements as he promptly removed the arm that had made its way toward Innocence the second before. Crying out in pain the injured Malice rushed into the forest, searching for easier blood.
Sesshomaru looked at the gratitude in the small eyes, wondering why he felt such an obligation to protect this girl. He hated humans, but this one was different. She had none of their arrogance or corruption, she bore no negative emotions, despite her hard life, and she never questioned him. She had total and utter trust in him; perhaps that is what he saw in her?
