Every Night and every Morn
Some to Misery are born.
Every Morn and every Night
Some are born to Sweet Delight,
Some are born to Sweet Delight,
Some are born to Endless Night.
I look over the ruins of Mordor. 'I am too late.' A voice inside me whispers.
I shrug. There will always be another war. Besides, there were still orcs and goblins enough to amuse me should I feel the need for a fight.
The wind lifts my hair as the creature beneath me takes flight once more, over to the ongoing eruption of Mt. Doom.
I frown, though no frown shows on my face. 'What happened?' A curious burning inside be yearns to know.
I give in and steer the creature to fly circles around Mt. Doom.
'Well, the war was started by Sauron, so I assume by the look of Mordor that he is dead. Furthermore, the only way to kill him would be to destroy the one ring. So I assume it was destroyed. In the fires of Mt. Doom, obviously.'
I can feel the restless tiredness in the limbs of my pet. I smile at my beloved companion and lean down to pat its back.
"Not far to go now, sweetie. Soon, we will be home."
I could feel the familiar question radiating from the being. My smile vanishes as I sigh.
"Yes, you are right. We have no home."
I turn once more to regard the flowing lava. 'Let me see, the prophesy clearly states that someone will destroy the ring. It also says…' I smile as I find the thought I was looking for. 'It says a life will be lost to the fire in vain.'
Once again, studying insignificant by-prophesies that spread like ripples on a pond from any major prophesy has paid off. That and paying attention to dreams. Dreams are useful.
I lean over my creature and reach out my hand towards the lava. Whispering a few words, my hand begins to glow and what looks like a searchlight extends over the flow of lava. Here and there, it lifts up a fragment from the lava, floating it in the air, until a whole creature is assembled.
It took form slowly and my hands shook from the strain and my impatience as I waited.
Finally, it was complete. It was humanoid, not orc, not goblin. I smiled quizzically as the creature floated towards me and settled in a heap before me on my pet.
'The soul will take a little to come back from wherever it has gone. Then I can ask questions.'
The creature beneath me veered off from Mordor at my urging. We ascended above the cover of the black clouds that the volcano had produced to cover the land of darkness. Above, there were only the three of us, the stars and the nearly full moon.
I closed my eyes as the cold wind whipped around me. The cold was seeping into my bones but I did not care. It was nice to feel something for a change.
"The mountains near Fangorn and Isengard." I ordered.
I heard the creature's reply without need for spoken words.
"Swiftly, silently and stealthily."
I smiled and putting on my fir hood, closed my eyes. 'Never go into battle without knowing all the facts. Sleep now, and mayhap dream…'
