Title: When the truth comes out

Rating: PG-13

Disclaimers: YYH is not mine.

A/N: What should I say? Oh, well. Yeah, the summary. This is mainly of the cute silver fox and the handsome fire monster. This is shounen-ai, people, so if you're offended with this, please click the back button or what, just to get out of this page. Thank you. Well, back to the story if you're still reading, this is something like a Kurama-uke. Kurama is not the Kurama in YYH here, so it's something like an OOC. The barrier between the monster and human world will collapse; therefore, a war will break. Read it if you like to know more. Thank you very much.

Chapter one: The hidden truths

The night was a cold one. The moon is nowhere to be found. It was eerily silent. No sort of sound is heard in the village. In a two-storey house, a red-head is peeking at the usual sight in the village.

He sighed, really tired at what happened that day. Studying, practicing, studying, project planning, studying, lying, rehearsing, lying, and training. Guess where he is now. He is in Yusuke's house. He lied, yet again, to his human family. He told his mother over the phone that they will be there for a project-planning. In one point, it is true. They are there for planning.

"Hey! Kurama! Where are you?" A voice from downstairs retrieved him from his thoughts. He closed the window of Yusuke's guest room and went downstairs, his steps too soft to be heard.

"Stupid. Where the hell were you?" Kuwabara asked him, quiet annoyed. Kurama just gave his friends the smile. "I was upstairs. Sorry." He said. Kuwabara just sighed at his friend. "OK. Dinner is already in." Yusuke said. He motioned at the others to follow. Koenma followed, tailed by Genkai, Kuwabara, and Botan. Hiei and Kurama were the only ones left.

"Aren't you going?" Kurama asked, his best friend. He was waiting for the other. "I don't eat those." Hiei responded, in his usual sitting form. He stared at the others. "OI! Are you two on a diet?" Was the shout from the dining room. "Coming!" Kurama responded. He let out a hand. "Come on. It isn't poison or something." Kurama said. Hiei took the hand and got up from the window he was sitting on. They made their way to the dining room.

Koenma gulped. Hiei sighed. Kurama stared. Botan smiled nervously. Genkai is terribly angry. For, Yusuke and Kuwabara are on their, yet, nth fight. They are supposed to plan for the next attack. The spiritual barrier that king Yama placed between the two worlds is threatening to break apart.

Super fox comes to the rescue. "Come on, people. This is serious." He said. (He sure has patience, don't you think so?) The two stopped.

Koenma sighed with contentment. "The barrier will be collapsing next week, if the revolution will continue." He continued. There was nothing but worried faces all over the room. Shuichi opened his mouth to speak, but the phone rang.

"I'll get it." Yusuke said as he quickly got up. "What if it was your mother telling that she'll go home tonight?" Botan asked thoughtfully. Yusuke shook his head. "She'll be staying over night with that Kagome girl. That is certain." He said as he opened the door. His steps echoed through out the hallway.

"So, Kurama, you were saying what?" Genkai asked, wanting the discussion to continue. "The barrier is a wall of powers, am I right?" He asked, eyeing the people around the room. All of them nodded except Kuwabara. "Then, I think..." He was cut off by a shout downstairs. "Kurama! It's your father!" Yusuke shouted.

Sweat drops flooded the room as Genkai cursed the world of people who they are trying to save here mentally.

"Moshi moshi." Shuichi said as soon as Yusuke handed him the phone. Yusuke stayed there, hands behind his back. He was leaning on the green living room wall.

"Shuichi! Where are you? Didn't I tell you that you're supposed to be home by 8:00 pm?" The caller on the other line boomed. There was a voice on the background. "Be gentle, honey." He was sure it was his mother. He feels really guilty that he has to trick her. She really cares for him... "SHUICHI! Are you still there?" His stepfather shouted on the other line. He sighed to himself. "Yes, dad." He said with a gloomy face.

"Where are you?" He asked his voice a little bit calmer. Shuichi answered. "I'm on my friend's house." He said. The room was silent. Even in their house (Shuichi's house) was very silent. "I'm in a friend's house." He repeated.

He placed his stare away from the telephone cord he was playing with his fingers. He looked up and stared at the hall way. To his surprise, the whole gang was there. They all sensed that something is going on.

"GO HOME RIGHT NOW!" The person on the speaker shouted to the receiver. Shuichi had to put off his ears off the phone to prevent the breaking of his eardrums. He sighed. This is what you call perfect timing.

"I'll be home on..." He stopped and looked around to find a wall clock. He saw a grandfather's clock. Shit, it's 8:30 pm already. "I'll be home by nine." He said. The voice on the receiver reacted fast. "Make sure you're home by nine SHARP."

Toot. Toot. Toot.

"He hung up." He said. He placed the receiver back to its place. "The guy your mother married is pretty strict." Yusuke snickered. Kurama gave him a warm smile. "Yeah, he sure is. But I understand him. He's just worried about our safety." Kurama stated.

Hiei shook his head. This is such a stupidity. OK, maybe not, considering that his best friend has a point, but... "Is that how you call concern?" Hiei asked with obvious sarcasm on his voice. Kurama smiled at his best friend.

"OK, as I was saying a while ago, the barrier is made of pure energy so, we'll have no choice but to..." he stared at others. He looked at his acquaintances. "What? You mean?" Hiei asked, getting a slight idea of what the kitsune will say. "No way." Hiei responded. His eyes glistened when he understood his best friend.

"You got it right, Hiei." He said. The fire monster could only widen his eyes more, if ever that is possible. His mouth gaped. "You're kidding! We already did that before. It didn't work, Kurama. It didn't work out." He said. His eyes are full of worry.

"I know. But, what choice do we have?" He said. His eyes are as unreadable as Hiei's. The two just stared at each other. They are like talking using mental telepathy. Hiei glared at Kurama. Kurama's brows knitted. So went their silent conversation.

"What happened anyway?" Yusuke had to break it off since no one but the two could relate anymore. Kurama looked away from them. Hiei stared outside, too. The two just stared outside. "Uh, I think we don't need to discuss that." Kurama said, as he walked away from the crowd. He got his coat from the hook near the Urameshis' door.

"I'll go now. Dad's going to ground me if I arrive later than 9:00 pm." He said. He fixed his coat. He turned to the knob and opened the door. "Ja, guys!" He said. He tried hard to make it sound jolly, but the obvious awkwardness still hung in the air.

As soon as the door's click left the Urameshi residence, everyone turned to Hiei. "Hiei, what was he talking about?" Botan asked her curiosity at its peak. Hiei looked outside nervously. 'Stupid, stupid fox! Why do you have to go and leave me here after you raised a sensitive topic?' He thought to himself. He looked back at his companions just to see demanding eyes.

"I'll go now." He calmly said. He took his dark coat and went outside. He doesn't really know what to do, sleep perhaps? He doesn't care, he survives everyday like that anyway.

He sat at the rooftop of the Urameshi residence. He let the cold wind of the autumn to touch his face. The moon is lost somewhere the dark blanket that covered the sky. The clouds cover the sky, making it look dark.

Then, he saw his best friend's silhouette. He jumped down and rushed to his friend.

Kurama stopped, sensing someone nearer. However, he easily recognized it. "Hiei? I thought you're angry?" He said, not looking to his companion. His voice echoed. "No, just wondering why you should think that oddly." Hiei said. He moved nearer Kurama as he walked silently. Both of them walked under the stars, their steps too soft to hear.

"Are you sleeping near my window again?" Shuichi asked. Hiei nodded. They reached the train station. "You know my residence, don't you?" Shuichi asked his best friend. Hiei raised his brow. "What do you mean by residence?"

Kurama laughed sweetly. He almost forgot. Hiei is as naïve as a child that you have to use simple terms. He's a monster, anyway, and the monster world uses different terms that humans use. "Residence means where you live. Let's just meet there; I can't jump over rooftops like you. Someone might see me." Shuichi calmly said, trying hard not to change it to the terms that seem deep for his best friend.

Hiei just nodded. He watched as his best friend got a ticket and rode a bullet train. The train arrived, and he played with it, trying to over speed it (did I use the right word?)

The train arrived at their district. Kurama had to run very fast, or else his father would kill him. He looked at the giant clock at the nearby school. Three minutes before nine. Just perfect. He kept on running, not even waking up a single dog in the neighborhood.

He reached out for the gates. His hand was very uncontrollable. He reached for his keys and inserted it in the hole. The gate opened. One and ½ minute before nine...shit! He tried his best to close it softly. He ran across the wide garden of their house. He reached the door and got his keys yet again.

When he opened it, his step father was sitting on the sofa set, face cross, his brows meeting together. Trouble is waiting for him. He closed the door silently. His father stared at him, anger written all over his face. Beside him at the seat is his son. He likes his step brother. His step father, that's another thing. He seems to be over protective he's so...

KURAMA! Stop it! Shuichi almost shouted out loud. That silver fox is so short-tempered sometimes. Generally, he's as short-tempered as Hiei. Oh, he might even be shorter tempered.

He was pulled back to the present when his father started speaking. "Where were you?" He asked. He could almost hear echoes of his father's voice. He cleared his throat. "I was at a friend's house." He said. His voice was just moderate enough to be heard by the three humans and a monster peeking at a window from the outside.

He bets that those shades of scarlet that are unique are his best friend's eyes. Hiei was hiding at the bushes. He wonders if he isn't aching because of the thorns in the roses. That made him smile to himself.

"Shuichi, if you want to stay overnight in a friend's house, just ask permission." His step father was trying hard to sound concerned. But, the aura surrounding him is telling the contrary. He is surrounded by acid yellow. That is the color of lies. That color is one of the things he hates, but, how can you hate a part of you? How can you hate a thing that gave you the things and people you love?

Lies are what make him. May it be the human him or the fox him: they are both made up of lies. The silver fox is already a lie himself. A truth that no one knows but him is hidden behind his flesh. Besides, who would believe him if ever he will say that the world that everyone is moving on is a lie? Everyone will think he is insane, put his best friend in the list. No matter how his best friend believes that life sucks, just like his view of it, he believes all his heart that he is true.

His father's clearing of the throat pushed him, yet again, back to the reality. He nodded politely with a little smile. "I'm sorry, dad. I'll ask permission the next time." He said. Then, he went back to the original question of his. "Oh, dad, can I ask you something?" He asked his voice still soft. He felt that his best friend had already abandoned him.

"Yes." That was the short reply of his from his father. "How did you know the telephone number of the house of my friend where I was staying at?" He asked. His innocent-looking eyes are, well, filled with the acid yellow of 'innocence'.

"Sakura gave it to me." That was the reply from his ever-so-non-chalance- filled father. He nodded. "Can I sleep now?" He asked. His father just nodded.

When he opened his bedroom door, he saw a fire monster sitting on a tree near his window. He closed his bedroom door with a soft thud. He sat down on his bed.

"Your father is real strict." He said with a very soft voice. Kurama nodded. "Yeah, and sometimes the silver fox is getting real hard to control." He sighed defeated. The fire monster shook his head.

"You better sleep now. We'll have a hard time sneaking tomorrow." Kurama said as he pulled his red shirt off and replaced it with a loose white one. Hiei then hopped off the window. His feet didn't make a single sound, if your basis is the normal hearing of a human. Hiei started to sleep. Kurama smiled.

The Saturday morning was a very cheerful one. The birds chirped as if they themselves are in the 7th heaven. The sun woke up everyone. Let me rephrase that: The sun woke up everyone except Shuichi.

The fire monster sat at the tree's branch, motionlessly. He stroked the birds surrounding him. Then, he sighed. When will his best friend wake up? Being unable to wait any longer, he went inside Shuichi's room. His soft landing on the room wasn't heard by the people downstairs. He hated going to other's places, but this is necessary. Yusuke will be waiting for them.

He tried to wake up Shuichi by shaking him. It didn't work. (A/N: To all Shuichi/Kurama fans: I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to offend anyone here. This is just a fanfic. And, oh! This is yaoi, but it's NOT lemon.) He tried to uncover Shuichi by putting his blanket off (A/N: No hentai thoughts here.) Then, he reached for Shuichi's face (A/N: Let me think. This is not lemon, people!) He whispered silently in Shuichi's ear the name that he wished he wouldn't say. "Hiroshi."

That made the trick. Shuichi woke up suddenly. He looked around and saw nobody but his best fried dear. He looked at Hiei suspectioning. "Were you the one who...?" He asked. He has a hint in the face that looked like Hiei had been a traitor. That name was a forbidden word for him. (A/N: If any one is offended, I didn't mean to offend you. This is a fic, people.)

Hiei had to look for cover. He nodded. Shuichi almost glared his cute green pupils out. "Why did you do that?" He asked. Hiei bit his lower lip. "You are too hard to wake up." He murmured under his breath. He knows that Shuichi is really angry this time.

Shuichi sighed. Hiei really acts before he thinks. This is because of the safety of Yukina, that's why Hiei is this frantic again. Shuichi just nodded. "Oh, well." He started. "You should've waked me up with a nicer way. You better get off my bed and hide. Mom might get in here to get my bed sheets."

Hiei did as told. He stared at his friend as if Kurama was a ghost. Kurama noticed it. "Why? Any problem, Hiei?" He asked his best friend. Hiei just shook is head. Kurama is friendly, kind, and patient, but when you say two names: Hiroshi and Kaede, he will be real ticked off. (A/N: To anyone who I might have offended: I didn't mean to offend you. The truth is I also offended myself. I hate to do these. Oh, yeah. The names Kaede and Hiroshi aren't mine. They're Japanese and I'm a Filipino.)

He went outside the room. He looked down and saw a row of roses in his friend's garden. He hopped down and got one. A thorn pricked his finger, but it didn't hurt at all. He just had to wander on how the roses are this beautiful. He was so lost in admiring the rose that he didn't notice Shuichi get out from the Minamino mansion. He was surprised when a pair of strong hands touched his back.

"Let's go now. Otou-san will wake up any time. Sooner or later, or else he'll ban me and ground me, especially now that okasan is currently on Britain." Kurama said as he tapped his best friend in the shoulder. But then, he noticed something.

"Hiei! What's that?" He cried out very loud that he swears that he almost woke up his father. Hiei was very shocked that he can't even reply. He muttered softly. "I accidentally pricked my finger." He said while finally noticing the scar.

Kurama got his hanker chief. He tore a little part of it and tied it around the fire monster's scar in his index finger. Hiei just stared at it. The design of the hanker chief was...a dragon? A black dragon. To make that specific. Hiei looked up from the hanker chief. "Let's go?" He asked. Kurama nodded.

The alley is very dark, even after the sun's first rays. The rest of the world is shining with joy for a new day. Well, I mentioned 'the rest of the world', right? Because, this part is gloomy because of all the negative emotions of its occupants.

"Kuso! Where the hell are those two?" Yusuke cursed. They were all anxious. Koenma turned beat red. "The barrier's condition is worsening! What shall we do? Those two... if they won't arrive, we'll get going now."

Then, they heard a couple of footsteps coming their way. They turned and saw the duo nearing their way. "You two are late again!" Koenma shouted in despair. Kurama, the king of lies, smiled his made up smile. "Gomenasai. I just overslept."

Kuwabara felt his face fall. Botan has a big question mark on her head, the very same that Koenma has here. Yusuke just stared at the supposed to be Kurama in front of them. Genkai has a big purple nerve on her forehead that felt like bursting at the moment. "Gomen." He repeated. Hiei sighed. Shuichi, the most mature on the four of them, can sometimes be stupid and naughty.

"Maa, maa, we should plan this defending of the world right now." Koenma said, trying to keep Genkai from suffocating the living air out of the fox. Shuichi eyed his best friend. Hiei nodded. Shuichi smiled. "We did this before, but this is just a temporary solution as of now. This is what we will do..." Shuichi started as he motioned the others to go nearer to him.

"WHAT!!!" The whole group all screamed in unison. The birds flew away from the supposed to be protectors of the world. The city shook. (A/N: I forgot where city they live. Gomen.) All the cats woke up.

"Damn darn! That's impossible!" Koenma shouted in disbelief. Yusuke had a weird look on his face. Kuwabara didn't show any sort of reaction, he had trouble digesting the ideas that was given to him a while ago. Hiei sighed. "I told you so." Hiei muttered under his breath.

Kurama smiled another of his made-up smile. "But, guys, this is just a temporary plan until we find a permanent solution. That is, of course, if you have a better suggestion." He said as he smiled wryly.

Hiei shook his head. Hell, this best friend of his. Kuwabara then spoke up, not really understanding the things that Shuichi said a while ago. "Wait..." he was cut off by Yusuke. "But that will mean staying in the cave 24/7 and tiring ourselves to death. It would be pretty much the same than not fighting at all."

"That's why I said it's just a temporary solution. Anyway, we can make a better plan. This is just to prevent the monsters from going in Ningenkai." Silence ensued.

Then, one of the faithful and loyal servants of Koenma appeared from nowhere. Drops of sweat raced within his body. He was panting very hard. "Koenma-sama! There you are! The barrier! It's breaking!" The 'creature' said. (A/N: You know...One of the monsters who are working in his office, if ever my word isn't that clear.)

Koenma bit his lip. Then, he noticed Genkai going somewhere. "Genkai! Where are you going?" Koenma said as he followed the old master of theirs by his eyes. "There's no choice left, Koenma. Much as we hate it, we need to do this for the sake of this world."

A/N: Is it long or short? What is the spelling of Shuichi? Is it Shuichi or Shuuichi? Oh, well. Thank you for reading. This is romance/action, although it didn't show much in this chapter. It will in the following chapters. Thank you for reading.
