Pokemon is not mine. Please don't sue, yatta yatta. If you don't know what shounen ai is....then you really shouldn't be here.

Tears ran down Max's cheeks rapidly as he dashed through the forest. Coming at a stop near a stream, he sat near the edge.

His sight blurred, glasses wet. He took his spectacles off and wiped them using his shirt. As he continued to weep, he remembered what caused him so much pain.

Just minutes before, he and Ash were walking through the glorious woodland. Max had enjoyed the time spent alone with Ash .

For the past few years he had begun to develop a strong infatuation with him, growing increasingly fond of many qualities the boy possessed. It was confusing to him to have these feelings for one of the same sex. Keeping it a well guarded secret, he tried to focus on liking girls. He tried to shrug it off as something silly and even tried to simply forget he felt that way. In the end, his resistance just made his feelings stronger.

Max dropped subtle hints of his desire but Ash was oblivious to them. There were many times in which he wished to hold the aspiring Pokemon Master, tell him how he felt and kiss him passionetly.

On this day, he felt he needed to tell the object of his affection how he truly felt.

"Ash..." The young boy spoke.

"What is it, Max?" Ash asked, his usual smile curved his lips.

Max felt his mouth become dry, the palms of his hands sweat. "I...uh..."

"Is something wrong?"

"Have you....have you ever felt so strong about something....and you really wanted it....b-but you don't know if you....can ever...ever have it?"

"Well," The other boy began. "when you want something you have to go for it! I mean, ever since I could remember I've wanted to be a Pokemon Master. I've worked real hard to get to where I am now. Winning all these badges and competing in those tournaments, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish that stuff if I just stood around doubting if I could have it or not."

The bespectacled boy looked at Ash, his words giving him courage to what he was about to say. "Ash......I....I....I love you."

A "silence" followed. To the two boys, the pidgeys did not chirp nor the rattatta scurry about. All they could do was gaze at one and other.

Ash then began to shift uncomfortably as Max looked on. He found his voice once again and spoke, "I'm flattered you feel this way about me....but...."

At that moment, Max knew what was coming. He stood still, a small pain was felt inside his stomache. "B-but?"

"...I don't feel the same way. I don't know if I could....ever....feel that way about you. I'm sorry."

The words pierced the younger boy like an arrow through the heart. His rational side anticipated that he wouldn't have his feelings returned. His emotional side, however, had the hope that he would be loved in return.

Max ran off, almost instinctively afterward.

Now he sat on the gravel, looking down at his reflection in the water. Tears dropping into the water like raindrops. Embarassment and sorrow filled his heart.

After a long while of crying, May walked up behind Max. He turned and looked at his sister. The look in her eyes telling him that she knew what had happened.

He then leapt on his sister, giving her a fierce hug.

"May....."

"It'll be okay, Max. I'm here."
