Sake of Memory

summary: honda has taken time off for a little rememberance on a bleak, autumn aftenoon about friends, and a certain brown coat. HONDA POV
note: written in my stream-of-consciousness, so it's very choppy and broken up.

It was a short walk from my apartment to Domino Park, and a fairly pleasent one as well. The sidewalks were empty of people, most of them would probably prefer the warm insides of coffee shops than the cool air of the outsides. I had a light brown coat on, which looked, smelled, and was more than likely, old. I don't remember how far back I've had this coat.

Jounouchi mentioned it.

"Your sister bought it for you, right?"

It was very much an afternoon like this one. He was walking with me to the park, a green grungey hoody on that displayed the word, 'Castle', across the front. I remember things like that with ease. Besides, it was a memory worth cherishing, no matter how insignificant it was. And his smile, with a full show of his teeth and confidence. It was really worth remembering.

Yugi said something too.

"It looks comfy. Did your sister buy it?"

It was on a spring-ish type afternoon, where everyone was too busy with school festivals and what-not to notice two boys sitting down under two sakura trees. I guess I really didn't want them to notice, because then, we would have to go back to work. Yugi would complain with me too, because it was like him to do that. His eyes proved all to me. It gave me comfort to know that.

Anzu made note of it too, of course.

"It's a nice color. Goes to show you that your sister has better taste than you."

It was during summer vacation when we were all at the arcade. I was watching the brunette play her DDR, and I couldn't help but wonder how she was doing this with 6 in. heels on. I couldn't even pull those moves off with sneakers. But I also knew Anzu would prove me wrong and cheer me on until I could. She radiated trust in me, and I basked in it. I was happy.

I finally stopped walking when I reached the swing-set, the sun hidden behind the trees and creating multiple shadows that companied me. I sat down on the swing to the far-right, sliding my fingers down the worn-out chains that held the seat. I closed my eyes for a while, and let the wind blow by.

Three years ago, Jounouchi Katsuya moved away to Osaka for the sake of his little sister, Shizuka. He had left with such ease that Honda almost didn't catch the look in his eyes that watched as the car drove away from him. Jou was wearing that same green hoody, but his smile was no where in sight.

Four years ago, Mutou Yugi became the Champion Dueler of the World, and re-located to Tokyo, where he now runs a gaming company with buisness partner Kaiba Seto. The little bright eyed duelist had such a hopeful yet sad smile on, that it almost made him cry. But he didn't, because he needed to be strong for him. Honda sobbed quietly after the limo drove away.

A year ago, Masaki Anzu is given an award and chance of a lifetime to perform as a dancer in Broadway. She accepted with the grace that was expected of a dancer, and an uneasy heart as she waved from the window of her plane to say good-bye. Honda smiled on, and waved back, but with the heartyness of an executioner. He knew that the DDR machine was going to have one less name in it's high-ranking charts.

And somwhere in Osaka, someone denies that he is a puppy, but smiles with confidence that he will return to Domino. Another in Tokyo is silently chatting away with his Yami, the blonde and magneta bangs obscuring his youthful face. And yet another one has just recieved a standing ovation from the crowds, and wondering if anyone yet has beat her scores on that DDR machine back in Domino.

And Honda just smiles silently, wondering when they will return back to him.
