Waiting
By Chibinaoka
Tomoyo stood waiting patiently at the school gates. Sakura was late, but she was often late so Tomoyo was use to it. She had never once lost patience with Sakura and simply left her. Not once. Ever since they were both in Elementary school, Tomoyo would always patiently wait for her friend so they could walk home together. Now that they were in High School, things hadn't changed much. They were still the best of friends and Tomoyo treasured every moment she spent with Sakura. But the truth is, Tomoyo had changed and so did Sakura. Now that they were older, they understood certain things better then they did as a child. Tomoyo for one understood that the love she bared deep in her heart for Sakura was different. Tomoyo knew that she could never give Sakura everything a boy could. But still, Tomoyo loved Sakura. She couldn't help it.
So there she stood, waiting for Sakura. Tomoyo whisked her long raven hair behind her with one hand. Her eyes watched the other students exit the school. Her attention was drawn to a boy and a girl walking out together, hand in hand. Tomoyo's own hands, which were folded together, clenched themselves. She had held Sakura's hand many times but she had never held it the way the couple did as they passed by Tomoyo. Secretly, Tomoyo wished for Sakura to one-day take her hand into her own and rest her head on her shoulder in a loving matter as they walked. But she couldn't. Sakura could never do that for Tomoyo and Tomoyo didn't blame Sakura for what she couldn't do, for what she couldn't give Tomoyo. Tomoyo knew how she felt about Sakura, but Sakura didn't. The single most import person in Tomoyo's life was completely oblivious to what Tomoyo's heart really wanted and Tomoyo wasn't about to tell her the honest truth. Tomoyo was too afraid of loosing Sakura so she kept quiet.
Tomoyo pushed the though of she and Sakura not being together as a couple to the back of her mind. She didn't want to think of what she didn't have. Tomoyo would much rather be thinking of what she did have with Sakura. The two had become much closer as the years passed by and Tomoyo was grateful for it. She contented herself with simply being in Sakura's presence. Seeing Sakura's warm smile every morning when they arrived at school was more then enough to make Tomoyo smile in return. When Tomoyo held Sakura when she cried because something went wrong, she was happy to offer her friend comfort. At the same time, when Tomoyo offered Sakura comfort, she offered herself a small piece of reassurance that she was with Sakura and that was enough to make Tomoyo's heart pound in her chest.
Thinking of Sakura in this matter made Tomoyo place her hands over her heart. She closed her eyes and she could hear her heart beating a little faster as she though of her beloved Sakura. When she opened her eyes, Tomoyo finally saw Sakura rushing towards her. Tomoyo smiled at the sight of Sakura. The sun was shining off of Sakura's light brown hair.
"I'm so sorry I'm late, Tomoyo-chan"
Sakura bowed a few times to excuse herself. Tomoyo smiled at Sakura.
"Don't worry Sakura-chan, you're not that late. Besides, I don't mind waiting for you."
Tomoyo saw Sakura's gentle smile appear on her face and the two finally began their walk home.
Tomoyo was sincere when she told Sakura she didn't mind waiting for her. In all the time Tomoyo had known Sakura, she was always waiting for her and she would always be. Tomoyo would always be waiting for Sakura no matter what.
