Note: I don't own Gundam Wing. Even if the characters are in "animal form" here, I can't take credit for them or the material I had to work with! Now that that's settled . . . onward with the "story"!

SUBJECT: MONKEY AND PLATYPUS STORY

Death. The platypus, one of the five that had saved the world, died. After the initial shock wore off, the world wept, lamenting the altruistic sacrifice. All save the monkey who had been the best friend, though it's questionable that the platypus knew it. With a placidly impassive expression, he knelt besides the grave in silent reflection, glassy eyes unreadable. A stray hand absentmindedly traced the edge of the concrete monument.

The platypus wouldn't have wanted something like this, to be regarded as a hero. Soldiers had mutual states of mind . . . heroes simply did not exist in war, and even the strongest were subjected to the reality of death, merely expendable instruments in an endless waltz. Gently a cold smile touched the edges of his lips. Emotions, attachments were liabilities; the war was over, and he continued to cling to it.

His eyes fluttered shut as those clutching "liabilities" threatened to overwhelm his defenses. The sense of loss echoed hollowly in him, and for a moment, he felt as if he was spiraling out of control. In an instant it abruptly ended as his breathing evened out.

Finally he pushed himself up from his squat. Dusting away the dirt from his knees, the perfect soldier, in the same mechanical strides, calmly left the cemetery. He did not look back, but a bittersweet thought drifted across his consciousness. That it wouldn't matter—it wouldn't matter if he chose to bare his emotions after all these years . . . 'You're not here to see it. You would never know.'

P.S. I wrote this a long time ago for keyboarding! Hmm . . . I miss that class . . . Anyway, I think you can figure out who the "monkey" and "platypus" were. Don't ask – the assignment was to write a story about a monkey and a platypus, and I couldn't think of anything else. As for the shounen-ai question – I think this one can go either way, ne? ^_~ It depends on how you take it. It's pointless, random, and kind of cheesy, but that's okay! Come to expect it! Actually – the diction and syntax could also use work o.O;;;

And in case anyone is wondering, I'm trying to work on my other fics. I'll put an announcement on my bio for it some time soon . . .
