Clark Kent was enjoying the tropical heat and wondering how on earth he'd
managed to score this assignment. A whole week in Hawaii covering a peace
conference, what could be better? Across the road he could see a little
girl playing with her dog. Her funny blue dog. Someone had obviously dyed
the poor dog such an un-natural color.
"Cruelty to animals. Lois would love this." He murmured. Maybe he could do a little piece on this too. It was always good for a human interest story.
The little dark haired girl rolled her red ball a little too hard and it rolled under a nearby car. She tried to scoot under the car to get it but couldn't reach.
"Can you get that?" she asked the dog in the manner of little girls, an innocent belief the animal understood. Clark smiled watching them. The little girl looked a bit like Lois and he wondered what she'd been like at that age.
The blue dog raced over to the girl. And lifted the car.
"Thanks Stitch." The little girl said.
Clark gaped.
Then the dog...or whatever it was spotted Clark and came racing over. In a strange voice it spoke
"Hello."
Clark shook off his surprise. After all, he'd dealt with plenty of strange things before.
"Hello."
The blue whatever-it-was sniffed the air curiously. "What planet are you from?"
"Krypton. You?"
"Outer space lab experiment."
The little girl ran over to join them. "Hello."
"Hello." Clark said again.
"Stitch can bend steel in half." She said. He wasn't sure if she was bragging or trying to intimidate him. He wasn't all that experienced with kids.
"So can I." he said.
"Oh." She cocked her head at him. "Want to come for dinner?"
Maybe instead of a human interest story the Daily Planet should start branching outside their species...
