~ Chapter 4~

A cold wind rushed through the frigid air, as Ross hugged her coat closer.

She closed her eyes and curled her toes into the depth of her boots.

'It's gonna snow' she thought as she raised her face to the ebony night sniffing the frosty air.

She sighed and jumped off the roof as she landed on the ground with a thud.

She flinched from the pressure on her knee.

"Guess I can't do that yet" she thought out loud as she stood up,

'Well I guess I should go and get my holiday blues out before tomorrow since it is Christmas Eve no use in ruining it for everyone else' she thought as she pulled a C.D player out and popped the headphones on her ears, starting up her C.D of Offspring. She walked into the woods.

'A good run should cure my holiday anxiety' she thought as she left into the brush.

Vegeta watched as she left into the dark nights grasp... "I wonder where the brat's going" he thought as slipped silently after her.

Ross ran thought the woods at top speed, well for her human body that is, she was by far slower than Hiei now and the fact that her knee was still not completely healed didn't help her.

She listened to a now mixed C.D of random songs, she had been running for at least 5 miles now and the cold was finally getting to her.

She stopped and breathed roughly through frigid air she took out her inhaler and used it she took off her blaring headphones, but accidentally bumped her Disk man onto the ground shattering the battery compactor.

"What the.... Crap" she mumbled as she picked up her now destroyed Disk man, she growled as she looked around at where she was.

"Hmmm I wonder" she thought out loud as she walked over to a near by cave it was her brother's old hide out when he was in training with Piccolo.

She went inside the moist cavern and came back out with a Boom Box, her brother was always prepared, she smiled as she stuck her batteries into the back and stuck a C.D in, and she turned it up.

Blaring the music, she tapped her foot to the music.

How the hell did we wind up like this

And why weren't we able

To see the signs that we missed

And try to turn the tables

I wish you'd unclench your fists

And unpack your suitcase

Lately there's been too much of this

But don't think it's too late

Ross was getting into it now as she took off her jacket and rolled up her sleeves, she bounced in combat position, as two pairs of eyes watched her with a confused looks.

Nothing's wrong

Ross sent some air punches and suddenly left the ground sending a tumbling defeat to the tree opposite of her she gritted her teeth and punched the trunk in annoyance of its stability, she wouldn't admit it but she had grown weak without practice.

Well I'd hope that since we're here anyway

That we could end up saying

Things we've always needed to say

So we could end up staying

Now the story's played out like this

Just like a paperback novel

Let's rewrite an ending that fits

Instead of a Hollywood horror

She sent a hard tornado kick, and then a double knife edge into a boulder in close perimeter, she watched as the area was sprayed with dust and rumble and sent some ki blasts to random falling rocks.

Nothing's wrong

She growled as she felt a presence in the area when the song ended, she must have been to preoccupied before, she darted her eyes to the right and charged at the brush hitting a dark figure, soon she was fighting so quickly that her arms and hands were just a blur, she didn't look at her captive as she sent a devastating side kick into the figure's jaw, throwing it 20 feet into the cave wall.

She turned off the boom box and went over to see what she had just fought; they were quite good blocking quite a few blows though they had underestimated her ability in the attack.

She went to see peered through the dim moon light to see piccolo rubbing his head with a groan.

"Uh... what ... are you doing here?" she asked as he looked up at her with a confused look.

"You mean you're not afraid?" he asked as she raised a brow,

"Uh no why would I be??" she asked as he stood up.

"Im here because this is my territory and second I would think you would be frightened away by my appearance" he said as she crossed her arms.

"Oh is that so this is your territory" she said

'He has no clue who I am... figures' she thought as her eyes wandered to her left.

"Vegeta you can come out now" she said as she recognized his ki, he came out of the shadows, as Piccolo looked at her with a confused look.

"How do you.... Know Vegeta?" he asked as she just shook her head looking down.

"You mean you don't know who she is" said Vegeta as Piccolo even looked more confused.

She held out her hand, with a wild grin "Ross Son nice to meet you" she said as his mouth dropped.

"Wha.... What Ross but what happened to you you're"

"Grown up yeah I know" she said as she took her hand back and went to retrieve her coat and Vegeta nodded to him with a smirk.

"She beat you and she doesn't even fight" he said with a bit of arrogance as Piccolo resumed his composure.

"She caught me off guard is all" he said as she came back with a look of amusement.

"Sorry bout that, didn't mean to scare you I just had to get away from it all" she said as Vegeta crossed his arms.

"And what fight I thought you said you didn't fight anymore" he said as she looked over at him.

"I don't at least not for the last year or so that is but I just needed to get some stress out is all it won't happen again" she said as she started walking in the direction of home.

"Wait you... haven't fought in a... year" he said as she looked around.

"Yeah...well actually probably longer than that but you know I lost count after ca-" she stopped herself from telling them about hell on earth.

"Look I don't fight, cause I don't have any reason to and besides im just doing what im suppose to right... stay out of trouble" he said the end a bit softly but they heard her.

She walked into the brush out of sight.

"Oh and Vegeta next time you're gonna stock me, you might want to lower your Ki a tad a newborn babe could feel it" she said as Vegeta snorted as he took off into the sky.

"I can't believe she's... given up" he thought as her ki disappeared with distance.

Ross and Vegeta walked in silence to Capsule Corp it was going on 1-am now and it was officially the holiday season for them both, they both hated it.

Ross opened the front door and shook her head at the sight, her brother and Trunks were passed out on the floor with fuzz on the TV glaring through the dark room, she sighed and pulled the empty bowl of popcorn from Trunks' hold as she turned the TV with the back of her foot she put a blanket on each and made her way to the kitchen as Vegeta watched in shock.

He left to the kitchen as well, Ross was washing the dishes now... he was in complete awe, she actually knew how to wash a dish, and she whipped her hands clean and turned to his gaze.

"What?" she asked as she noticed his spaced out expression.

"Hn" he said resuming his composure,

"Oh well Im going to bed, I expect the others will be here in the morning sometime?" she asked remembering that everyone had agreed to have the holidays together at Capsule Corp. in the morning.

"Yeah I suppose" he said as she nodded going to the stairs,

"How did you learn to fight like that?" he asked as she turned slightly.

"If I told you I would have to kill you, don't tell anyone" she said as she ascended the stairs in silence.

Ross collapsed on the bed in exhaustion; she had her own room at capsule corp. since she was brought in that summer.

She turned on the light by the bed and took out a raggedy looking leather book.

- Today's the day my life turns back into a circus, well later on that is.

I know that this holiday is going to be more trouble than it's worth, I can only wait to see the consequences of being pushed into this family once again.-

She closed the book and threw it into her pile of clothes on the floor, turning off the light she laid back with one hand behind her head and sighed.

'I can only imagine' she though as slumber took her off guard.

Hiei sat in the tree next to her room as he watched her sleep, it had been awhile since he had seen her , but he spent today at her heals.

'I wish she didn't hate me' he thought

'What do you mean she isn't worth it she's just a measly human now' said another voice in his head.

'Hn where did you come from' he asked himself in an almost debate.

'I've been here watching you, why do you worry about this girl so much she isn't worth your time'

'I don't worry about her' he argued.

'Oh... then why did you bring her here in the first place, because you wanted her to be safe?'

'No because I can't stand to be near her' he thought as he clenched his teeth angry at himself.

'Oh my mistake' said the voice as the final word lingered in his mind.

'Why... did I bring her here?' he thought as she turned in her sleep.

He sighed, as her finger flinched out to the empty space of her queen bed.

'I wonder... what she's dreaming' he thought as his bandana began to glow.

~ Dream~

She was running, panting hard in the dim lit street, her eyes a magnificent gold, were entranced with a spell.

She looked behind her as she jumped on a passing car, sirens could be heard through the busy city streets, she ran quickly all through hear dream he could here her raged breaths.

And then...

-BOOM-

Ross hovering in the air now, her arms outstretched and smoking, she had just sent a huge ki blast, causing the destructing of the city below.

She breathed in a raged breath and an evil laugh escaped her lips, as she listened to the tortured humans below and there worthless screams.

~ End on dream~

Hiei pulled himself out of the dream at that.

"How can she..." he thought as his eyes filled up with horror.

This wasn't the Ross he loved and if so there was no way in Maaki hell Koenma would have let her get away with killing so many innocent lives.

He hated ningens don't get him wrong but the fact that she passed the point of hate to killing was beyond his comprehension.

He jumped from the branch he occupied without looking back to his once friend, he left into the grasp of the night without second thoughts of his decision to leave their relationship at that...nothing
