A few minutes later and Dib was looking somewhat mournfully at his drawing, which had rapidly started to fade away. He sighed as his alien disappeared before his eyes, and he was left staring blankly out the window again.
I want a bestest friend, he thought, staring up into the sky, I want an alien bestest friend…one who won't bully me cause my daddy's famous…or cause I wear big glasses…
He opened the window, ignoring the frosty chill that hit him, and took a deep breath. It was a great day to play outside – yet without any friends to play with it didn't seem as much fun.
I wish, I wish, I wish I found an alien.
Suddenly, something in the sky seemed to glow brighter, as if the sunlight had hit a shard of multicoloured glass. Dib gasped as the 'thing' seemed to just drop vertically from the sky. He leaned as far as he could go out the window, following it with his eyes until he lost it somewhere in the park a few blocks away.
"Oh wow!" With excitement barely contained, the toddler started running for the front door. He just had to find out whatever that thing was. He had almost reached the door when –
"Kids! I made gingerbread cookies – Dib! Where on earth are you going young man?"
"I'm going to de park mommy! I saw somet'ing land dere!"
"I'm sure you did honey," Somehow his mother's tone of voice made him feel that she didn't believe him, "but you didn't ask whether you could go. You know to always ask before you go somewhere, what if you get lost or-"
"Please mommy, can I go to the park? Please? Please?" He was itching with impatience and stood there hopping from one foot to the next.
"Oh alright. But remember to be home before five and –wait! Take your coat before you go outside otherwise you'll catch a cold!"
Dib ran to the hat rack and grabbed his favourite little black trenchcoat and threw it on, before waving goodbye to Gaz and flinging open the door. The last thing he heard before he ran down the driveway was his mom yelling, "Look both ways before you cross the road and don't talk to strangers!!"
Oh wow what if my wish came true?! He thought. What if that was a spaceship? Must-run-faster!
A surprising short while later (in which Dib had almost gotten hit by two cars seeing as he hadn't looked both ways) and Dib had made it inside the park. The air was chilly despite the sun and the snow that covered the trees and ground was still relatively thick.
Dib was surprised to find that he was the only person at the park.
Maybe it's too cold…He reasoned, rubbing his hands together. He wished he had brought gloves…
It was at that moment that he realized he wasn't the only one in the park.
"Micro! Micro let go of my head Micro -"
"WEEHEEEHEEE!" *crash!*
"Aaaahowow! MICRO! No! Stop! Cease! DESIST! Obey me! Obey me! I COMMAND YOU TO STOP RIGHT NOW!...please…"
The voices were coming from a clump of thick bushes somewhere to his left. Dib ran over, excitement filling him so much that he hardly felt the cold anymore. When he got closer he could see that a large skid mark had been carved into the snow so that most of the area was practically snow less. Dirt that had been dredged up clashed heavily with the white.
What he saw made his jaw drop in disbelief.
At the end of the skid mark sat a sleek, round, purple spaceship. And standing beside it, trying to wrestle a small robot off its head; was an alien.
An alien that looked exactly like the one he had drawn.
