I was reading a book when I looked at the clock, it read: 7.45. I put down
my book and walked over to my cupboard to get my ice skates.
As I walked into the rink I could see Adam already skating. He skated over towards me as I slipped on my skates and walked out onto the ice.
I skated and skated. No twirls, no jumps, no nothing. This wasn't me. But it was all that was left of me. My feet wanted to lift off from the ice, but my mind didn't know what to do once I had lifted off.
I looked at Adam; he was too busy enjoying the ice. Thank goodness he was Mr. Clueless...or so I thought.
"You have figure skates, but what are they, if you can't figure skate in them?" Adam asked softly.
I gulped. I knew I couldn't hide my past forever, so I told him. I told him everything, every single little detail and at the end of it, tears were streaming down my face.
"Look, I'm sure you can still do it, I see the way you skate, don't give up!" Adam said encouragingly, patting my back at the same time.
I shook my head. He didn't understand, he didn't understand at all. "This isn't hockey Adam. This is real life, and sometimes in life, you can't always get the puck back when you've lost it" I said, skated off the rink, took off my skates, pulled on my shoes and ran. I ran and ran; I wanted to run far, far away from the rink. Far, far away from the memories that haunt me everyday. But how far could I run?
Five minutes after I had run up to my dorm, Adam came looking for me. "When I couldn't figure skate any more, I could feel half my heart gone and you have no idea how painful that is!" I said harshly, but the tears rolling down my cheek gave me away.
"No, I don't know. But I do know that nothing will ever take me away from hockey. Why? Because I love it too much to ever give up on it." Adam's voice getting louder and louder.
I looked at him. I could see the passion he had for hockey in his clear blue eyes and the confidence he had himself when he spoke. I used to be the same way for figure skating.
"Aren't you willing to go all out for something you love so much?" He asked, confidence in every word he said.
I stared at the floor and looked back at him. His blue eyes looked at me, his never-giving-up spirit blazing.
I nodded my head and threw my arms around Adam's neck. "Thanks Adam, really" I said and let go of his neck, only to find a very stunned Adam.
"Are you okay?" I asked him, trying very hard to hold back my laughter.
"F-fine, don't ummm give up, alright? So I'll s-see you tomorrow I guess" Adam said, snapping himself out of his stunned state.
I waved goodbye to Adam as he clutched his leg (he had knocked into the closet on his way out). I closed the door shut once he left and smiled to myself.
I have never seen Adam so nervous, so uncomfortable with his words. I always saw him as a very calm person. But then again, you can't judge a book by its cover now can you?
I walked into the bathroom to brush my teeth when Jenna walked in.
"Hey, I saw that Andy Banks guy walk out of our dorm. He seemed really happy, he looked as if he struck the lottery"
"For your information his name is ADAM Banks" I said, giggling at Jenna's comment.
"Right, whatever! Are you guys going steady or something," Jenna asked teasingly.
"No way! Adam and I are good friends, just good friends" I said and snuggled under my covers into my bed, smiling gleefully. Yeah, just good friends...
