Adam's ~POV~

"Adam, stop gleaming, okay? It's getting freaky" Charlie said to me.

I looked at him, the wide grin still on my face. I have been like this ever since last night when Jean gave me a hug. I don't even know why I'm so happy about it; it was just a hug!

"Anyway," Charlie said slowly, figuring that nothing he said could help my 'condition'. "Lynda and I are going to the prom together and all the other Ducks have dates, so you'll have to watch movies by yourself this time, we are not going to give in to your begging this time"

The prom! How could I forget? Hey, I could take Jean. Why not? My face lit up even more, which freaked Charlie out even more though.

"Nah, I think I'll go to the prom," I said casually.

"Julie's going with Scooter and Connie's going with Guy" Charlie answered.

"I wasn't thinking about asking Julie or Connie"

Charlie's eyes widened "Could this be? Has our little Cake-eater learnt how to like girls? And I certainly have to wonder who this girl is and what's so good about her that caught Banksie's eye" He said in a very mocking tone.

I looked away from Charlie and kept my mouth shut stubbornly.

Telling Charlie something so personal was road kill.

After science class, I was walking down the halls when I saw Jean talking to Riley. Personally, I didn't feel too comfortable about it, but I was going to ask Jean to the prom after Riley was done talking to her so I was too busy preparing how I was going to ask her to the prom to eavesdrop.

I gulped as I saw Riley walk away and walked over to Jean.

"Hey" I said nervously. I can't believe I was going through with this! "I was wondering, there's this prom-"

"The prom! Can you believe it? Tom Riley asked me to go to the prom with him" Jean said excitedly, not allowing me to continue what I was going to say.

"Wow! Really? Did you say yes?" I asked, pretending to be happy for her.

"Well duh! He was probably the only person that would've asked me!" She answered happily.

"Yeah right" I muttered under my breath, but she wasn't even paying attention.

"Look I gotta go, see you at lunch" She said and ran off.

I just stood there and watched her leave. I should have known that Riley would have taken her before I did.

I walked to my next class, still feeling a bit sore about not being able to take Jean to the prom.

During Math I couldn't stop thinking about Jean going to the prom with Riley. And before I knew it, it was lunch.

I walked into the lunchroom, got my food and walked over to the table where Charlie was sitting.

"So have you asked Mystery Girl yet?" Charlie said, half snickering. I opened my mouth to reply but Jean dropped her tray onto the table and told everyone about Riley taking her to the prom before I could say anything.

Everyone looked at each other but gave no comment. They still didn't trust him.

"Okay...back to Banksie" Charlie said, changing the subject.

"What about him?" Louis asked.

Charlie shot me a very evil look and told them all about me wanting to take a girl to the prom.

Jean's eyes lit up. "Who is it?" She asked anxiously.

"It doesn't matter, she's already going with someone else," I answered sadly, looking down onto the floor.

"Oh" Charlie, feeling a bit guilty for forcing me to spill the beans in front of the entire team.

"Well it doesn't matter, Jenna's not going with anyone, you could go with her" Jean said encouragingly.

"No its okay really" I said. I knew she was trying to help, but I really didn't want to go to the prom with anyone else.

"You know what, you don't even need to talk to her that much. Just go there have some food and drinks and dance with Jenna, she's a good dancer" She said.

I looked at the Ducks; they all started whispering.

"What?" Jean asked, slightly confused.

"Ummm Jean, Adam doesn't dance" Goldberg said quietly so only she and the Ducks could hear.

She froze and her eyes widened "You're kidding"

"Its true" I said lethargically.

"Well if you're going to the prom, you have to learn how to dance" She said, determined that I was going to the prom.

But she wasn't the only person with a determination.

"Who said I was going?" I answered stubbornly.

She threw me a very annoyed look.

"Okay! Okay! I'll go!" I said, finally giving in.

She smiled happily. Proud of her accomplishment to make me go to the prom.

"Great! Meet me at my dorm tonight at 6pm and I'll teach you how to dance" She said as the bell rang and walked off for her next class.

I watched her leave. Her straight jet-black hair curling slightly at the tip and her light brown eyes were very attractive, but there was something behind all that, that was even more attractive. Something that not all girls had, something that really attracted me to her.

I shook myself out of dreamland and looked at my watch. I was already late for my next class!

History was my last class. Usually, I found it rather enjoyable, but today I was counting down the minutes. The sooner everything was done with, the sooner the dance lesson starts.

Yeah, I can't believe I'm excited about it.

I counted down every second and finally it was 5:55pm.

I made my way to Jean's dorm and knocked on the door.

"I'll get it" I heard a girl's voice say.

The door swung open and I saw a beautiful girl. She had blonde hair and dark brown eyes. She wore a wide smile on her face. I've seen her in my chemistry class before but never talked to her.

"Hi I'm Jenna," She said cheerfully. "Nice to meet you...Adam?"

I nodded and shook her hand.

She invited me in.

"Jean, Adam's here" She said loudly, smiled and walked away.

"Coming" Jean said frantically and came running.

She was wearing her cheerleading outfit!

"What do you think?" She said spinning around.

"It looks great!" I said. I wasn't lying! She did look good.

"I think it's alright, except for the skirt, its tiny!" She said, tugging at her skirt.

I laughed.

"Wait here, I'm changing into something else" She said grabbing a pile of clothes and ran into the bathroom.

I watched her and then shifted my gaze to her room.

It was fairly messy covered with clothes, posters and trophies. But a cardboard box at a corner of the room caught my eye.

I walked over and looked over the top.

Inside were photos, tapes and bits and pieces of junk.

"I see you found it"

I spun around and saw Jean walking towards me.

"I wanted to put these somewhere special but I couldn't find the perfect spot" She said, "They were my life" I smiled weakly. Horrible memories of me leaving the Hawks flowed.

"Okay, never mind these, lets start dancing" She said and walked over to where the stereo was and hit the play button.

Immediately, a catchy tune started playing.

"Come on, just feel the music and move to the beat," She said pulling me to the center of the room.

I hesitated at first but with Jean's encouragement, I eventually got the hang of it and I actually found it quite fun!

"There you got it!" She said after a while.

Just then, a slow song came on.

"I think I better teach you how to slow dance" She said, sounding a bit unsure about it.

She put my hands around her waist and her arms round my neck.

"Okay now you just move around a bit, sway your body slowly to the beat at the same time" She said and lay her head on my shoulder and we started dancing.

My heart pounded so fast and so slow at the same time, I was so tense and so calm at the same time. Everything felt so right.

I wanted this moment to last forever but I knew the song would stop eventually.

At the end of the song, she released her arms from my neck and I let go of her waist.

"Well you did well, you should have no problem at the prom" She said.

I nodded and said "Yeah, the prom. I better go now"

She agreed and saw me out.

I left for my dorm. As I walked I kept thinking about how we slow danced just now, wishing that I could relive the moment.

I sighed. Who was I kidding? I could never get that moment back, she was going to the prom with Tom.

Why is it life is always so cruel to me?
