Jack's Comfort

Summary: What if Pete didn't survive in Chimera. Jack comfort's Sam.

Disclaimer: I do not own Stargate, don't sue me.

A/N: I just saw Chimera for the first time, and also met Pete for the first time. I DO NOT LIKE HIM! I'm J/S all the way, and Pete is not my friend. Apparently, my muse doesn't like him either. Here's my ending to Chimera. Enjoy!

Dr. Janet Frasier worked around the clock. Pete was fading fast, and she couldn't help him. He was hit worse then Sam suspected, and neither of them expected him to die. Janet cursed as she lost him. She'd lost patients before, but it never got easier.

Janet walked outside the operating room with red eyes. Maj. Samantha Carter rushed to her and knew immediately what happened. She ran past Janet and into the infirmary. Janet bowed her head and tried to fight back more tears. When she looked up she saw Col. Jack O'Neill walking towards her. "How's the patient Doc?" He stopped in his tracks when he saw her face. "How's Sam?"

Janet shook her head and pointed to the door. Jack immediately went through it and found Sam leaning over a pale Pete. She was weeping, her back heaving in sobs. Jack went to her and placed a comforting hand on her back. She looked up and gave him a tear-filled look. "Sir..."

"Oh Sam." He said quietly, opening his arms. Sam went to them and cried on his shoulder. "Shh." He said gently, running a soothing hand on her back.

When her wails were done she let Jack lead her away. He drove her to her house and ordered her to bed. She wanted to call her brother to tell him, but Jack demanded that she get some sleep. He promised to call him.

Dr. Daniel Jackson and Teal'c showed up while Sam was sleeping, both bringing flowers. Jack took the flowers, but sent the men away. She would be overwhelmed if too many people were around.

Sam woke up two hours later and looked horrible. Her face was blotchy, her eyes red, and her hair was standing up every where, except in one spot where it was flat. "Would you like some food?" Jack asked, when she walked into the kitchen. "I made sloppy joe's."

Sam shook her head. She did, however, get some coffee. "Where'd the flowers come from?" She asked quietly.

"Daniel and Teal'c. I didn't know if you'd want a whole bunch of company..." Jack stopped because he saw Sam's eyes begin to weal up. He took her coffee cup and laid it down on the counter, then he enclosed her in his arms. "Oh Sam." He said quietly.

"I already miss him." Sam said against his shoulder.

"I know." He began to run his fingers through her hair. "You loved him, so of course you miss him."

Sam pulled back and looked at Jack. "That's just it Sir, I didn't love him." Jack didn't know what to say. "I tried to, really I did. I just..." She looked down at his chest. When she looked up at him she saw concern all over his face. "I love someone else Sir."

Understanding washed over Jack's face. He tried to stop the words from coming out, but to no avail. "I love you too Sam." He said quietly, wrapping her in his arms again.
