"MADELINE ELISABETH FERILLI-SNAPE! GET YOUR BACKSIDE DOWN HERE THIS
INSTANT!" Severus yelled up the staircase of their new home in Bath. A
girl with wavy, black hair and deep, brown eyes winced. Whenever anyone
used "Madeline" instead of the usual "Maddie" she knew she was in trouble.
She dropped the pen she had been using to write a letter to her boyfriend,
Carl. She walked down the stairs dejectedly to face her steaming father.
"Madeline," he said in a forced calm voice, "What is the meaning of this?"
She almost let out a snort but stopped when she saw the look on his face.
He was extending a pair of bubble-gum pink briefs.
"I-I-I accidentally put them in with my bikini," she managed to reply amidst giggles.
"Maddie! Why didn't you check your land- wait, you have a bikini?" his face was quickly becoming the color of a tomato.
"No, no, me? What would I want with a bikini? I meant to say long, turtleneck dress made of wool with an indestructible padlock," she replied quickly. He just looked at her for a minute, weighing his words carefully. She looked at his face expectantly, her perfectly thin eyebrows raised. He sighed deeply, ran his hands through his hair and walked back toward the direction of his office.
"Severus! Would you stop fidgeting please, it's just a routine check- up, everything is fine!" Marina tried desperately to soothe her husband. It was her first checkup, she was 1 month along. "Sev, am I going to have to give you a tranquilizer?" she laughed at his face.
"This is no time for jokes Marina!" he said tersely. She went back to her magazine and he went back to making he knees jump up and down as if he were a marionette. When the nurse finally came to show them to Dr. De Bowes office Severus looked like he had just seen Voldemort.
"Mr. and Mrs. Ferilli-Snape, come right this way," she spoke in a very calm and determined voice.
"Sometimes I wish we hadn't hyphenated it," Marina whispered to Severus. He was too nervous to reply. They weighed Marina and took her temperature (magically of course) before showing the two into the doctor's office. They waited for a couple of very stressful minutes before Dr. De Bowes came in.
"Good afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Ferilli-Snape," she said in a cheerful voice. "Is this your first visit?"
"Yes," Marina said quickly before Severus could over take her in a tirade of questions.
"I'm sure you're both nervous," she gave a grin to Severus. "So I'll just tell you exactly what I will be doing during this routine checkup."
"Thank you," Marina breathed a sigh of relief; she hadn't been fancying trying to calm Severus down and go through the checkup all at the same time.
"First I'll be checking your heart rate. It's important to keep everything in line even during pregnancy. Your weight has already been taken and you're a little under what you should be," Marina blushed. She had lost weight purposely before the wedding. "We'll be talking about your diet and what the baby needs during the nine months he or she will be with you. We'll check you joints to make sure you'll be able to take the weight the baby will add. Finally, we'll get a look at your baby. I'll just mutter a quick little spell and the inside of your uterus will be projected onto the wall right there," she pointed to the opposite white wall. "Do you have any further questions?"
"Will we be able to know the sex of the baby?" Marina asked.
"Yes, if you want it, I can give it to you."
"Sev, do you want to know the sex?" Marina questioned, turning to her paling husband. He nodded mutely. He couldn't sleep, the reality of a child had not really sunk in yet. "Yes Dr., can you tell us?" Dr. De Bowes grinned and tapped Marina's still small stomach. The tip of the wand glowed blue.
"It's a boy!" Dr. De Bowes exclaimed. Marina's eyes lit up but that was nothing compared to Severus.
"A BOY!" Severus exclaimed, leaping up from the chair in which he was sitting. "A BOY, I can't believe this! This is the happiest day of my life!" his face was split in a huge grin and Marina gave a small laugh as he danced around the room.
"Mr. Ferilli-Snape-"
"Please, call me Severus," he cut in.
"Severus, please calm down!" Dr. De Bowes couldn't contain her amusement. "You'll be able to see him in a moment." Severus calmed down slightly and stood beside Marina who was stretched out on a hospital table. Dr. De Bowes muttered another spell and an image appeared on the adjacent wall.
"Where is it where is it?" Marina implored. Dr. De Bowes walked over to the large image and pointed to a white-ish thing.
"That looks like a cheese-doodle!" Marina exclaimed. "How is that a boy?" Dr. De Bowes let out a snort before quickly stifling it with her fist.
"I assure you Mrs. Ferilli-Snape, it's quite alright; all little children look like that at this stage. You'll see in about three or four months that it looks like a tiny little human. As for being a boy she walked over and was about to point out the young "boy's" "manly-ness" but was stopped.
"No, no, I see now," Marina hastened. "And please Dr. De Bowes, call me Marina." Dr. De Bowes smiled and they went on with their checkup.
~About eight months later~
"SEVERUS!" Severus zipped down the stairs as fast as his legs would carry him. Marina had taken some time off work since she could barely move. As it turns out, the young heir was a big one.
"What is it Marina?" Severus asked hastily.
"Can you move my foot, it's so swollen I don't think I can move it." Severus gave a small groan but moved it none-the-less. Her toes were painted a deep maroon that he thought looked like blood.
"I thought something was really wrong!" he exclaimed irritably. "Please, don't scare me like that again!"
"Severus, when you're carrying an extra forty pounds, you get to make the calls. Seeing as you're not bloated at the front and feet; I make the rules and you do my bidding. Oh and dear,"
"What is it Gaia?"
"Lily and James are coming over for dinner. We're both in the mood for Indian so if you could be so kind-"
"Don't worry, I know where it is," Severus sighed. It was his day off and he had a ton of papers to grade but he guessed he'd have to do that latter. "Is there anything else you want?" he asked, picking up his hat.
"Oh, don't go yet. I thought we could look over the name book again." Severus smiled and took a seat in the chair beside the couch. "Oh, Sev, come here, I'll sit up." She swung her legs over and he had to catch them and set them on the table before she kicked him in the nose.
Gingerly, she picked up the maroon volume and opened it to the back where the boy's names were. "How about Andrew?" she asked.
"Not for a first name. I thought we decided on an Italian first name that started with an "S"!"
"Okay, okay." She muttered, flipping through the pages. "Here, here we go, Sebastian."
"I like it, I like it a lot!" Severus said. "Sebastian Andrew."
"We'll call him Drew."
"We'll call him Andy."
"You're right honey, I like Andy." She looked down at her bulging stomach and rubbed it. "Andy," she murmured. "Oh Sev! He knows his name, he just moved." She quickly guided Severus's hand to where the kick was felt.
"Wow," that's all he could say. "Wow." After making sure the kicking had stopped, Severus picked up his hat in high spirits and aparated into the Leaky Cauldron from which he meandered to Marina's favorite Indian Restaurant. He ordered the items she had written down and sat down with a cup of tea while he waited.
"So your wife wants Indian again?" the old proprietor said, walking out with a box.
"Yep, and her friend too."
"Lord help us. Though, I don't think business would do half as well if we weren't the object of so many maternal cravings."
"I'm sure, thank you."
"Do you find a name yet?" he implored.
"Yes, Sebastian Andrew, Andy for short."
"Congratulations my friend!" Severus smiled and waved as he walked out the door. He walked back to the Leaky Cauldron and aparated. When he got there he almost dropped the box. The house was in shambles. He ran into the living room and found James helping Marina up from the ground. When he saw her he rushed to her side and took James's place.
"What happened?" he asked, feeling weak.
"When we got here we started talking in the living room. The door opened and we thought it was you but it wasn't," James began.
"It was Voldemort himself Severus," Marina said cryptically. "It took all that was in me to fend him off," Marina's eyes were dry and her voice was grave.
"Marina did away with Voldemort and Lily and I banished the Death Eaters," James nodded.
"Oh God," Severus sighed, sinking down into a chair. "This is what, the third time we've faced him? I don't know how much longer we'll be able to survive."
"Severus, don't do this to yourself. Let's just have dinner and talk about it." Marina said, rubbing circles on Severus's back.
"You still want dinner?" Severus asked incredulously.
"Of course I still want dinner. Lily does too as so Harry and Andy!" Severus felt a strangled chuckle come through his lips while he got up and brought the Indian food to the table.
~Late in July~
"Come on Marina PUSH!" Dr. De Bowes said in a coaxing voice.
"FUCKING CRAP THIS HURTS LIKE HELL!" Marina exclaimed. Tears and sweat were coming from Severus. "I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU SEVERUS!" she screamed. She gave one last push and a cry went through the whole room. Marina fell back onto the bed, her hair fell in sweaty clumps around her face. Dr. De Bowes lay the red child on her slightly smaller stomach.
"Oh my God," Severus breathed, touching the large amount of black hair on the child's head.
"Severus, we have a son," she whispered, kissing him.
"You were so brave," he whispered back. "I love you so much."
"And I love you too."
"Severus, do you want to cut the cord?" Dr. De Bowes asked. Severus nodded slightly and she handed him a pair of silver scissors. She took Andy and placed him on a small table. With a clasp she showed Severus where to cut.
"Will it hurt him?"
"No, no. This is just as natural as it gets," she smiled and gave him a pat on the back. Severus cut the cord and immediately put down the scissors as if they were an instrument of torture. Dr. De Bowes gave him another smile and wheeled Andy over to the healers.
"We have a son," Severus said again, tears falling down his face. "I have a son."
A/N- I got the dates wrong last chapter. Severus and Marina got pregnant in January not December because he was born in July, not June. I hope you all are getting the picture now. Please R&R, thanks a ton.
