Welcome, one and all. Today's challenge:

Challenge: The Lower Desks

Canon: Yes

Criteria: At least one canon event through the eyes of a secondary character.

Today's Disclaimer: Still not mine. This OC is mine. Concept is mine. Any humor that may result is mine.

Today's Witty Statement: There are some things money can't buy. For everything else there's MistressCard. It's everything you want to be.

Paperwork

Hiroshi Katou hated his job. Really hated. Often he wished he hadn't been so prudent in school and had gone into something less dangerous, like cliff diving. Even more often, he wished he had decided to work absolutely anywhere but Tomoeda, Japan. To be sure, the work was steady and the pay was good. The way things were going, he would be able to retire in a few years. It wasn't quite worth it, though, when he had to sit at his desk and go through the quarterly paperwork.

"Damage repaired to West Main Street. Cause of Damage: Earthquake(?). Cost of Materials…" He sighed. This was typical. And it didn't stop there…

"Replaced furnishings and statuary for Tomoeda Elementary School. Cause of Damage: Vandalism(?). Cost of Materials…" Hiroshi remembered that perfectly. It had been a nine days' wonder in town—or would have been if the next incident hadn't supplanted it.

"Sheet glass repaired and drainage inspected for Tomoeda Aquarium. Problems/Violations: None found. Cause of Damage: Exceptional stress(?). Cost of Materials…" He groaned. It was hopeless. The aquarium had insisted there had been no negligence, and indeed none could be found, but in that case what had happened?

"Glass window replaced for Twin Bells. Cause of Damage: Robbery(?). Cost of Materials…" That had started a brief but furious frenzy of burglar-proofing, which had turned out quite profitable in its own right, but Hiroshi had never understood why a burglar would come in the window when the door was open and, having done so, neglect to steal anything.

"Repairs to public electric system. Cause of Damage: Magnetic storms(?). Cost of Materials…" He groaned again. There was more of the same, scattered throughout the entire season. Each time, there was no rational explanation that anyone could discover. Earthquakes only a part of town felt, vandalism on a scale it should be impossible to accomplish…If it kept up, he was going to end up believing in spirits running around wrecking things.

Hiroshi laughed shortly and left his desk, with its disturbing damage reports. He never knew how close he had come to the truth…

-End-

Yes, I know, random. 'Tis true, 'tis pity, and 'tis pity, 'tis true. I just started wondering how all the magical occurrences might affect the ordinary people of Tomoeda, and it metamorphosed into this. Hope you enjoyed. Question: Was this funny or not? How would it have been funnier? Thank you for your time!
