As Kurt Angle felt his body impact the pavement he felt a burst of pain
from his head and a burst of white light flash before his eyes before falling
into permanent darkness
BEEP
Kurt Angle tried to let out a moan
as awareness slowly came back to him, but it only came out in a sigh as he
shifted around, the soreness of his limbs pushing him towards consciousness.
As he opened his eyes he blinked against the brightness that came with
day. As he blinked, looking up at the ceiling, the memories of what Big
Show had done to him came back in a manner one sees a slow motion picture.
Finally letting out a guttural groan he
tried to move his head to look around his surroundings. His neck was
stiff and sore, but no obvious pain in his neck, which meant that despite the
fall and blow he felt before passing out on the concrete, the big galoot hadn't
damaged Kurt's neck.
'Thank God for small blessings,' Kurt
thought as he fumbled for the call button that would summon a doctor or a
nurse. Most of the muscles in his limbs felt sluggish which meant he'd
been out for a significant period of time. But how long of a time?
A day? A week? Longer? Kurt refused to think about the longer
part as a nurse came in and came out promising to get a doctor.
A short time later a dark - haired youthful
doctor came into the room and started a brief examination of Kurt.
"Hello, Mr. Angle, welcome back to the
land of the living," he said in a southern accent which reminded Kurt that
they had been in Texas the night Show threw him off the ledge. Tax day,
if he recalled correctly.
"How am I doing Doc?" Kurt said,
the hoarseness that came from long sleep evident in his voice.
"Well, considering that most of us
thought you wouldn't wake up again after this long, you're doing surprisingly
healthy."
"How long was I out?" Kurt asked,
fear starting to form in his spine. That longer question started to loom
back into his mind again.
The doctor paused, as if unsure how to
break what he had to say to his patient.
"What was the day and the year of your
fall Mr. Angle?" he finally asked.
"April 15, 2004," Kurt answered
the doctor, the scratchiness starting to disappear from his voice, but the fear
in his spine turning to ice. He was starting to get very nervous about
why the doctor was asking about what year he'd fallen.
The doctor sighed and said the worst
possible of words to Kurt.
"Mr. Angle I hate to tell you but it
is April 9, 2009. You've been a coma for almost 5 years."
*Sends this off and runs* Feedback would be appreciated.
