Alexx had seen many medical students pass through the halls of the city morgue, but never ones like these. They were very happy and talkative. Most were rude and refuse to listen to her. She decided to end the tour early and give out there doctor assignments. Ushering them in the room, she noticed an outcast. The girl looked not much older than thirteen with black hair pulled into a tight bun. Alexx vowed to keep an eye out for the girl and talk to her when she got the chance.
"You will now be given your assignments. I suggest you report to your doctors immediately…"
"What are the chances of us landing an assignment with a hot chick like you?"
"Slim to none, sweetie," Alexx said frowning. "Where was I? Oh, the doctors get really cranky if you're late. You may leave the room as soon as I call your name and assignment."
She began calling out the names and assignments. Soon she was down to the last five names. She looked over them.
"I guess you babies are mine."
She looked up at the four boys' faces. They had been the worst students during the tour. They had made comments and asked dumb questions. She wanted to groan, but she noticed a girl in the back of the room. It was the girl from before. It lifted her hopes some what. She motioned for her to come forward. The girl seemed scared.
"Don't worry. I'm harmless. What is your name, dear?"
"She won't say anything. She doesn't talk. She's mute," one of the boys hissed.
"Her name is Anca Valerious," another said laughing.
Alexx pulled Anca's file out of the stack she had in her hand. She looked at it carefully. She smiled. The girl seemed like her ideal student; smart, quiet, and a hard-worker.
"Well boys, Anca seems to have something you don't-- respect. Not to mention she has experience; Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, South America."
Alexx made a side note to introduce her to Calleigh Duquesne, the resident ballistics expert.
"Follow me please. As soon as I have gone over the rules, I'll let you all go to lunch."
She slowly went over her rules, making sure to explain them fully. She would not normally do this, but the boys seemed as if they would try to bend them if she didn't.
Once she was done, she sent them on their merry way. She watched the four boys run out of the room, almost knocking over Anca.
"Are you ok?"
Anca shook her head yes as she headed toward the door. Just before it she stopped and turned around. She pointed at her wrist. Alexx understood immediately.
"Can you be back in thirty minutes?"
Alexx was surprised when she shook her head yes. She motioned for the girl to go on her way. After she was gone, Alexx picked up the phone.
"Calleigh, its Alexx. Is there anyway you could come meet one of my new med students? She seems to be like one of those girls you see in high school that is always sitting alone at lunch and no one ever says a word to her. She has an interesting history and an even more interesting family."
