Chapter Twelve: Some Girls

Why did he have to be here? For two weeks she had managed to keep her thoughts off of him. She had been in training lately with the professor, so she hadn't had any trouble with keeping her mind off of the stupid Maximoff boy. So what was he doing here, anyway, and why wasn't he acting like his usual jackass self? Though she had to admit, the fountain prank had been funny. She had only seen the mouse crawling up his pant leg and scaring the b-Jesus out of him, but that had been so much better, even as she had gotten saturated in the process.

Mia smiled as she thought back on it.

It had been a long time since she had actually laughed, for once not sounding so totally hollow. So maybe that Pietro guy wasn't so bad. At least he was good for a laugh.

"So, Mia, do you, like, have a thing for Pietro?"

Kitty's question startled her from her thoughts, yet Mia only smirked calmly as she shook her head gently. They had left the mall soon after the fountain incident and gotten a cab home. "No. He isn't my type." Answered Mia coolly. "Besides, didn't Scott say something about him being with those guys of the Brotherhood? Speaking of which, isn't Lance in with them, too?"

Kitty frowned slightly at the accusation. "Yeah, but Lance isn't all that bad. Like, he can be really sweet and stuff sometimes." Mia smiled indolently but didn't start an argument over such a small deal. It wasn't really any of her business anyway. "So, like, what is your type of guy?" Kitty pressed.

Mia shrugged, "A guy who isn't an ass."

"Pietro isn't always so… Okay, bad example. What'd you think of Lance?"

Again she shrugged. "He seemed okay."

"Only okay?"

"If you really like him, then it shouldn't matter what I think."

"Oh… So then you, like, won't mind coming to the movies with us later?" Kitty asked quickly. Mia's thin gray eyebrows rose as she looked over at her new friend, sitting beside her in the cab. "It's just me and Lance… but not like a date or anything… That's why I want you to come along so he, like, doesn't try anything. Please, Mia?" She rushed on. "Not that I think Lance will try anything, just that I don't want him thinking he can, or that this is a date, because it's, like, not!"

Mia smirked as she waved this off, "Yeah, fine. What movie?"

"Um… Like some horror flick, I think."

"You think?"

"Well, Lance only said to meet him at the movie theatre at six tonight. I told him you would be coming along." Explained Kitty cautiously.

Mia's eyebrows rose once more as she gently touched Kitty's hand. Her expression became an eerie calm suddenly as she pulled her hand back. "Why don't you bring Rogue along? She likes horror movies more than me, and I heard her saying earlier she wanted to go see that new one-…"

"What'd you see?" Kitty hissed so the cab driver wouldn't hear.

Mia hesitated. "Just what movie you were going to see." She lied.

Kitty watched her skeptically a silent moment, and then shrugged. "Why don't you both come, then? I'm, like, sure Lance won't mind."

Again Mia hesitated, but then finally nodded in agreement.

Author's note: Ahh… stupid head-cold… not that anyone cares. Any-who… Hope you're enjoying!

"Great. Then how 'bout I save you guys some money and pay for the four of us?" Lance said, obviously straining to keep his tone light.

"Um," Kitty hesitated. "How about the five of us?"

Pietro glowered at her. This was just great. Had she brought Jean along after all? Or had she gone totally insane and brought Scott? Or maybe she had just miscounted and both had come along! How wonderful – Anyone for some fried speed demon? – Pietro thought sourly.
