Chapter Fourteen: Swift Wisdom
Mia sat at the end of the row. To her right was Rogue, and beside Rogue sat Kitty, and beside Kitty sat Lance, and beside Lance sat a very annoyed Pietro. To Pietro's right sat a very large and obnoxious guy in his mid-thirties, with his dumpy girlfriend beside him. Worst of all, the big guy had just let one rip.
Finally the stench reached Mia, and she abruptly stood, despite that it was the middle of the movie. She looked to Rogue, her expression calm but her meaning obvious.
"You hungry or thirsty?" She hissed.
Rogue smirked, obviously not allowing the smell to get to her. "A soda and some popcorn would be nice."
Mia nodded and turned then nearly ran out of the room. She crouched on the other side of the door as it shut behind her, breathing in deeply the somewhat fresh air.
Only a few seconds later Pietro nearly collapsed alongside her, also gasping for a breath. "Man, what did that guy eat? The nachos?" He muttered to himself, either purposely not noticing Mia, or really not realizing she was there. A second later he looked to her in surprise. "What're you doing out here?" He asked in an offhanded tone.
She smirked calmly at him as she straightened. "I wanted some popcorn, since lunch turned out pretty soggy."
He straightened alongside her. "Popcorn, hm? So you were sitting out here… looking for pennies or just admiring the carpet?"
She smiled. "It's difficult to hold a grudge against you, y'know," she told him conversationally then started down the corridor towards the lobby. He caught up beside her in a blink and stuck his hands in his pockets as they continued silently.
"What'd you have a grudge against me for?"
"Oh I dunno," she shrugged. "Pick any of our unwelcome run-ins."
He smirked. "The first one."
She glanced at him, her expression on the borderline of being cold. "You earned that kick."
Pietro just shrugged. "You could have given a guy some warning – or at least kicked me somewhere else." She looked back ahead of them and didn't answer. They reached the lobby and Pietro looked back to her. "Just popcorn?"
"Two popcorns and two cokes," she murmured, walking towards the counter.
In a rush of wind Pietro disappeared then reappeared and grabbed Mia's gloved left hand and kept running, this time back towards where they had come from. He stopped abruptly in the corridor, released her hand, and handed Mia two bags of popcorn and two soft drinks, keeping one bag and one soft drink for himself. She observed this then looked to him in mild surprise.
"You didn't pay for these."
Pietro glanced at her and smirked. "What gave it away?" She frowned, and then seemed to forget about it and started towards their theatre. "Do you actually like this movie?" He asked, catching up alongside her in a blink.
She shrugged again. "I've seen enough horror in reality-…" she trailed off and seemed to realize what she had just said and looked to Pietro, her expression one of regret. "I meant-…"
Pietro stopped walking. "This movie's too dramatic for me, anyway, it's too fake. Let's go see a different one."
And before she could answer, he took her hand and passed their theatre, then went into another one quickly. He led her right to two open seats near the back and sat down, using her hand to pull her down into the seat beside him, not giving her a chance to object. When they were seated, he released her hand and popped a few popcorn kernels into his mouth.
"Dang" he heard Mia hiss, "and this is just what I was trying to avoid."
He looked to her. "You mean you saw this coming?"
She glanced at him and nodded as she settled into her chair more comfortably. "Yeah, pretty much. It's why I had Rogue come along."
"Why'd you bother coming if you knew this was going to happen?"
"I had already agreed to come, before the premonition. I couldn't just back out of the deal."
He frowned slightly at her. "Relax, this isn't a date. I don't even like you."
Surprising him, she smirked. "You sure have a lot of fantasies telling me otherwise."
His cheeks flushed as he quickly looked up at the movie playing. "Whatever. You're making that up. You can't read minds, or else you'd know that isn't true." He growled.
"I don't read minds, I read memories or futures or fates, and a fantasy becomes a memory." She countered calmly.
He looked to her again, trying to recover from his embarrassment. "Then what's my fate?"
Mia watched him coolly in thoughtful silence and lifted her hand, but then set it back on her lap and looked up at the movie. "I don't know… If my premonition from before hasn't happened yet, then you'll be electrocuted. The shock might kill you."
Pietro's blush faded as he smiled at the memory. "It happened. Toad got the shock, though, not me."
She looked back to him with her eyebrows rising. "My premonitions always come true – if you haven't been shocked yet, you will be."
Nonetheless, he continued to smile. "You see things that haven't happened yet, meaning they might not happen at all. Maybe your fate visions can't be avoided, but until the future happens, nothing is guaranteed."
Mia looked genuinely surprised at his wisdom. "Are you sure you don't have a conscious whispering in your ear?"
"A what?" Pietro asked a bit panicked, looking at his shoulders. "What's in my ear?"
She laughed softly again and Pietro looked back to her as she shook her head gently. "Man. Those nice little moments when you're brain is actually working come and go like your super speed."
Not really comprehending her meaning, Pietro shrugged and looked back up at the movie.
"Are you really watching this?" He asked in a disinterested tone after a few minutes.
"Hm?" He glanced at Mia and noticed she looked half-asleep. "Sorry, I think I drifted off. What'd you say?"
Pietro looked back to the movie. "Nothing."
Author's note: I wish I had a Word Processor that I could just think about, and the words would just appear. Of course it would suck if I had to go and think each and every letter. If I was Bill Gates, I might actually try to invent such a thing. Fortunately for the sake of computers, I'm not Bill Gates. I'm a dreamer, not an inventor.

She had fallen asleep. It made Pietro want to laugh, though since the movie was at a pretty dramatic part, he held the urge back. Instead he let his thoughts wander. He wasn't into foreign-films anyway, and hadn't even been paying attention to which movie he picked when he came in here. As long as he didn't have to sit by that fat smelly bloke, he was happy.
