Muggle In Our Midst
By Truly_Potter
WHOOSH!
It was like I'd been caught in an updraft and dropped here. All I could remember was having been blasted by some great force, though I wasn't entirely sure what it had been – like a cyclonic wind, or a flare of brilliant light... like the moment of disoriented blindness a person experiences after looking into the sun. For some reason I was lying on the ground...
Sensation suddenly returned to me like a slap in the face. My exposed skin felt as though it was being scratched at by thousands of burning nails. All that covered me were straps of stiff leather lashed grotesquely round my naked body. The bindings formed a grisly tartan with angry red welts that criss-crossed my disturbingly pale skin. I crippled into a ball, wrapping my arms around myself. I could feel little else than this searing pain. I looked around and could see nothing – all was white. A vicious tearing white that ripped all warmth from me in seconds – an incredible, burning, numbing coldness.
Panicking, I frantically tried to remember what I had been doing, where I was, why I was here. I tried to think who might have been with me. Desperately, I tried to remember who I was. It was then that it hit me. I realised with a sudden thrill of terror why I felt so strange – I couldn't remember a single thing. I put my hands up to my face and saw that they were covered in crusted, drying blood.
Unable to draw breath to scream, I gagged, and let my head fall. As the last lingering traces of consciousness slipped away from me, I imagined that I saw dark shapes moving in the fuzzy whiteness. I imagined it was him, though I had no idea who he was supposed to be, or why he should be so important to me. All I knew was that it would all be okay now that he was with me. I wondered dimly if maybe he was my guardian angel. As I fell into blackness, I was aware of him talking, but I couldn't make out what he was saying. Then, quietly, I died.
