As the warm spray was trickling over her shoulders and down her back, she couldn't help wonder what it was that he meant. Of course, the shower was the best time to wonder things like that. She shut her eyes as the warm water trailed over her shoulder, plastering her hair to her back. Oh, to enjoy the small pleasures in life…
A small sigh escaped her lips. She and Jann had done this before. Together.
Even showering alone seemed lonely now, which was quite sad, to say the least. It would take some time, she knew, but over time the pain of their separation would lessen. Just that waiting for that pain to lessen was certainly a pain in itself.
It was odd, though. Every time she thought about Ryu and their unexpected meeting in the Kyoto gardens today, she couldn't help feel an odd glimmer of hope. As though, perhaps he was the one that was meant to make her feel happy again.
Wait. What am I thinking? These are my thoughts about the same guy that makes 'uptight' seem an art form. How could he ever make me feel happy like that? But… I did really enjoy my time with him today… oh well, I suppose we'll wait and see.
She had his phone number now, an unusually intimate gesture that she had initiated and was grateful for doing. Slate grey eyes glanced down to her hand, where she had carelessly scrawled the number before copying it down neater on a piece of paper once she had returned to the hotel room. It was still there, although only just, washed away by soap and nearly obscured by bubbles.
Turning off the now only lukewarm water, she towelled herself dry before dressing in night-clothes. Time for bed. She was exhausted. Today had been a longer day then she would have anticipated. The bed was beckoning. Without bothering to brush her wet hair, she simply switched out the lamp and fell into the world of dreams.
Where… where am I? Her thoughts were muddled, eyes bleary. The first thing she saw when her eyes opened was him. The one who had defeated her.
Perhaps that will make you realise that you do not belong in my world. His expression was surly, but his tone was almost gentle. One like you could not survive out there.
And just what do you mean by that? She asked indignantly. Before she could react, his lips touched hers, the sweet taste of cinnamon ensnaring her senses.
You need me to protect you, as much as you detest admitting it. You may not be able to survive in my world, but you can survive it with me by your side.
She returned the kiss. It felt so right, so natural. So engrossed was she in returning the sweet embrace, she didn't notice a pair of emerald green eyes watching from the shadows or the faintest whisper of words behind her.
Such is our destiny…
