Chapter 2: School
On his first day, he silently floated to the front of the class. His teacher smiled at him sweetly.
"Class, today we have a new student. This is 17. Say hi to 17, everyone!" She said cheerfully, tucking a pencil behind her ear. The class tonelessly said hi to him, and 17 took a seat.
Later, at recess, 17 sat alone, on a swing. A messy fairy with dark, rumpled hair came up to him, with two other fairies behind him. He snickered.
"So you're the new student, huh Clown face?" He said, rather heartlessly.
"Leave me alone..." 17 mumbled.
"Aww, is the little baby too scared to fight me?" He taunted.
17 got up to leave, but was punched suddenly in the side of the head.
"That'll teach'im." The three fairies laughed and walked off, leaving 17 helpless on the ground. He cried out in pain, a cry no one seemed to hear.
At lunch, he ate alone. He watched the other fairies eat—the bullies, the preps, the nerds... He sighed to himself.
'But no outcasts.' He thought, sighing again.
17 looked up at the ceiling, watching the fan spin around, and around, and around... He shook his head and snapped out of it.
Just then, a fairy crashed into the table 17 was sitting at. He had red hair and yellow eyes, and wore a brown sweater and blue jeans. ''Ow..." he rubbed his head. "Can I sit here?'' He asked 17. "I'm a loner. They kicked me out of their group." "Sure." Shrugged 17. "I'm a loner too." "Well now you aren't." Smiled the fairy. "My name's Max."
"My name's 17. Well... Its not really my name. I don't have a name." 17 looked down in shame. "That's okay." Max smiled. "I think we're gonna be good friends." 17 smiled a rare smile, unaware of what would happen thousands of years later.
