Days like this
It was on days like this that she missed him. Days like this, with the sky oh-so-blue and tiny wispy clouds floating pass high up in the sky. So high up there it seems almost impossible to catch.
Which in a way it was, just that Chihiro didn't like dwelling on the technical aspects of such things. She didn't like science and mathematics, because they tried to persuade you to believe only in things that are rational. She didn't like that. You didn't need to explain and analyze something to know it exists. Things exist as it is. Just like that. Simple and plain. She didn't like to bother with all the theories and all that, she knew it was real.
And so it was.
Nothing would make her think otherwise.
The wind was warm as it blew across her bare skin, but she was just too lazy to get off the grass. She liked lying on the grass, watching the clouds float by, off to their own world. It would be on days like this when he would come back into her memory. Clear and untarnished by time.
Haku.
Her white dragon.
The boy that she saved, and the boy that saved her. Chihiro raised her hand half-heartedly and tried to grab a passing cloud. She giggled at her foolishness before resuming looking up into the sky.
How long has it been?
Almost ten years?
And still she waits.
Time never did bother her.
It was here, in the quiet field of green grass. Grass so green that reminded her of his eyes. Shiny emeralds that glittered with pain and love as he let her go. Green that she loved so much. It was here; shut away in her own little world that she was happy best, because it was the closest she would come to him.
Currently.
She believed him. He will come back to her. One day, it didn't matter how long, as long as she believed. Because believing was all she had left.
She closed her eyes and thought of his face. A cool wind blew over her and something that felt uncannily like hair brushed over her face. Eyes the colour of the earth sprang open and she bolted up, remembering that the last time she felt hair like that, she was flying through the sky, on top of a white dragon that she loved so much.
Nothing was around her, yet that touch.
She knew she didn't imagine it. She KNEW. It was Haku. Only Haku. Blinking quickly against the tears, she glanced down to see an imprint of a claw on the soft grass next to her. The imprint quickly disappeared when the wind blew again, ruffling Chihiro's hair.
Looking up, she could barely make out the shape of a white cloud dancing in the sky. White cloud with green frills. Chihiro smiled again, feeling very lucky. Brushing off the bits of grass off, she set off for home.
Chihiro believed in Haku.
Haku loved Chihiro.
And no matter what, that was going to keep them alive.
