"Sonic, what are we doing out here?" Amy whined. They had only agreed to a short stroll to get Dash some fresh air. The Chao, starting to take after the blue blur in appearance, had a natural talent for Chao races, which Sonic was eager to develop. The two would go out running together and Amy was glad Sonic was bonding with their new pet, especially since Dash helped Sonic be rid of his beer belly once and for all.

Amy was halfway through her pregnancy and while exercise was good for her and the baby, she tired easily carrying the extra weight. The couple were eager to met their child. What would they look like? Who would they take after? Like Dash's pre-hatching, the two hedgehogs debated what gender the child would be. Amy insisted on keeping the gender a surprise, but Sonic was much too impatient to wait but he had a gut feeling that another boy would be entering the family dynamic soon.

"Come on, Ames, relax." Sonic led them to a secluded clearing in a local park where the flowers were in full bloom and they both sat down, the flower petals grazing their knees, whilst Dash chased a butterfly nearby.

"Don't you remember, you asked me to marry you at this very spot."

"No, I did not." Amy pouted. She had dreamed of marrying Sonic the Hedgehog for years, but her un-fairytale-like proposal was a bittersweet memory.

"Ames, you're still mad about it?"

"No, just resentful. Out of the million times I've asked you to marry me since I was 8, you nonchalantly say yes at a time I wasn't expecting."

Sonic smirked, "Isn't the point of a proposal is that you're not expecting."

"Don't get smart with me, Hedgehog. You know what I mean."

It was a cool summer's afternoon in one of Station Square's local parks. In a secluded, romantic spot by the lake, two hedgehogs, one pink and one blue, were having a picnic together. Amy had invited her crush on a date friendly outing, which Sonic agreed to on the conditions she would make the pair chili dogs. Amy whined at Sonic's usual sloppy, unromantic choice of lunch, but if it meant she could spend more quality time with her one true love, then she was more than willing to compromise.

The pair sat in the shade. Sonic laid back against a tree lazily as he anticipated Amy's cooking.

"It's so nice to hang out with you without the threat of Eggman looming over us anymore."

"Yeah... I guess it's nice," Sonic tried to rationalise. He still had a strong sense of adventure, but the fact that his rivalry with Eggman ended with a whimper instead of a bang left a bad taste in his mouth. Amy noticed Sonic looking deep in thought and tried to change the subject.

"Especially now you don't have an excuse to say no to marrying me!" She joked. "We can have a family of 5. I'll an owner of a successful bakery chain and you can be the world's fastest house husband," she cooed, latching on to his arm.

Sonic was appreciative of Amy trying to cheer him up. He sometimes mused about what being married to Amy would really be like. As a teenager, he would panic at the thought of being legally or emotionally committed to anyone, but now a bit older at 20, he pondered the benefits. If the movies were anything to go by, he would get hot meals every day, she would do all the chores and more crudely, guaranteed sex. While Sonic cared more about the former than the latter, he did consider all the positives. Amy was one of his oldest, closest friends. He knew she sincerely cared about him beyond a creepy crush. Amy had grown up into a pretty, no, a beautiful woman. Her pink quills grew effortlessly down to her back. Her jade eyes shone brightly than the stars in the sky. Sonic couldn't help but observe Amy had matured... physically. No matter how much he tried, Sonic couldn't stop the intrusive thoughts he had about his childhood friend. She was hot, but he couldn't dare admit it her, let alone himself. Not that he was afraid she would be offended by Sonic's 'appreciation' of her body. If only Amy knew how much her light touches and hugs influenced his hormones. It was more so a subtle awkwardness he attempted, but failed, to ignore.

However, Amy was right. There were no practical obstacles anymore. Only his own feelings. So, Sonic did what he always did when he faced an obstacle. He faced it.

"Sure, sounds good!"

Amy froze like a computer that suddenly stopped processing.

"What!?"

"I said sure."

"To what?"

"You asked me to marry you, didn't you? You're not going deaf on me are ya' Amy."

"It's not funny, Sonic!" Amy shot up, towering over Sonic, dropping her chili dog on the floor, blinded by a mixture of rage and sorrow. "I'm not a little girl anymore. You've broken my heart too many times with your shallow promises and childish games."

Sonic flinched as her trademark hammer materialised in a fit of anger. He gulped. He could call her bluff, crack a one-liner and run off into the sunset. There lots of outcomes that ended in Sonic being severely injured or on the run for weeks until the pink hedgehog eventually forgave him. Luckily for his bones, he committed himself to the truth.

Sonic rose from his lazy stance and causally lower Amy's hammer and stared deeply into her eyes. Emerald met Jade. Amy sniffed, her emotions running high. No matter how tough she could be against Eggman's robots, she was always weak to Sonic's charms.

"Do you really mean it, Sonic. Please..."

"Yes, Amy. If you wanna' get married..." he smiled and presented her with a rose he picked from the ground below.

"...Then, let's do it!" He winked.

The pink hedgehog hugged her hero softly, which Sonic returned one-handed shyly. Amy giggled. Intimacy was never Sonic's forte, but Amy didn't take that personally. It was cute how he could be so confident in front of the world but clam up in front her. Amy's tears dried up quickly and Sonic saw a smug smile on her face. It was his turn to be confused.

"What?"

"Well... We're engaged, aren't we?"

"Yeah..." Sonic braced himself for her first request as his future wife.

"Then aren't you gonna' kiss me." She batted her eyelashes while stroking his tan hedgehog. Sonic was visibly flustered; he hadn't anticipated such boldness so quickly, then again, this was Amy Rose he was dealing with.

"I mean, do have to?" He asked practically hyperventilating. "Don't we need to take a vow of abstinence until we're married or something."

Amy merely laughed. "Fine by me." The pink hedgehog sat back on the picnic blanket and went back to eating her greasy lunch.

"But that doesn't mean I'm going to make it easy for you." Amy proceeded to grab another chili dog from the basket and flawlessly ate the entire sausage treat in one gulp, then licked her fingers clean of the chili. Sonic watched amazed as Amy wiped her mouth clean with a napkin and winked at him.

Sonic wasn't used to getting a rush of adrenaline from his hormones. However, for Sonic, this feeling was too strong to repel.

"Well maybe one kiss wouldn't hurt," he decided. Before Amy could blink, Sonic's lips connected with hers. The tingles of electricity; the weightlessness she felt. Her first kiss. Their first kiss. It lasted briefly. For Sonic it was only milliseconds. To Amy, it was a lifetime. She had waited a decade for this moment, and cruelly, their connection ended.

"No way," Amy threw herself on to her fiancée, straddling him, clearly forgetting they were still in public.

"I've waited 10 years for this, and I AM NOT wasting it." She forced a passionate kiss that Sonic was too weak to reject. They rolled around until Amy propelled the pair forcefully down the hill and into the lake below.

"Calm down, Ames. You know what the doctor said about your temper. It's not good for the baby."

Amy scoffed while caressing her belly. The human doctor gave her strict orders to relax and do no heavy lifting as her reputation as emotional firecracker proceeded her. His recommendations filled Sonic with unfiltered glee as he finally had an upper hand to pacify his wife whenever she was about the scold him, especially since her Piko Piko Hammer was kept safe of their mantel piece.

Sonic could sense her upset and decided to tone down his teasing. "Even though I thought the proposal was romantic, I did bring you here for a reason." He whistled to Dash and immediately the Chao came back holding a small guitar.

"I know the last 10 years has been pretty rough between us, and I'm sorry-"

"Sonic-"

"Amy, it's okay. I know we're moving on now, but I still think I could have done stuff differently if I could. Which is why..." Sonic tuned the guitar and practiced a chord.

"I hoped we could start over, and I know you always wanted to have me propose like some wannabe Prince Charming, so I thought I'd put my own spin on it."

Sonic cleared his throat. Amy looked up to see Dash begin to pick flower petals and drop them on the couple.

"If I could be you, I'd know how to see,

See why'd choose a pain like me

The damage inside, a mountain to climb,

I'd rather you stay safe, far behind

If I could be you then maybe I would do more than drag you down

Too selfish to leave, but hope you will stay

Endure life together,

Come what may I promise to cling, to comfort and sing

No matter what temperatures may bring,

People like me just don't get lucky twice

If I could love me, I'd learn how to love like you..."

Sonic stopped focusing on remembering the lyrics and his embarrassment kicked in as Amy stayed silent. He should have listened to Tails when he said it was too corny.

"Yeah, so that's what I would've done, then I'd pop the question and give you a stupid ring I know its dumb, but-"

"Yes!"

Suddenly Amy was bawling her eyes out, she could no longer hold back her tears of happiness.

"A million times yes!" Sonic choked up, trying to not get emotional himself. He composed himself and took out a gold ring.

"I know we live in a world full of rings, so it's nothing special, but I was too cheap to get you one after we got married, sooo ..."

"Who cares."

She pulled him in the direction of their home and called Dash to get out of a nearby tree. "We have a second wedding to plan."

"Amy, wait! I didn't mean we should... I mean the doctor said you shouldn't put yourself in stressful situations." His words were in vain as Amy was on her phone, asking the Station Square Hotel to host the wedding of the decade.

Sonic never considered getting married or even falling in love with another person beyond friendship, but deep down he knew, if he was going to be with anyone, he would always choose Amy Rose.

Another one-shot collection, although chapters may be longer than Pink or Blue. The song is from Caleb Hayes extended lyrics in his cover of Steven Universe's "I'd Rather Be Me" but I altered the lyrics to fit better. My logic is that since they married so quickly with no pre-established romantic relationship or at least build up, their marriage would become a marriage of the sake of being married rather than reciprocated love. Sonic would agree to marry Amy because he can and because he cares for her. Not because he thinks he needs to and doesn't understands 'love' in the way Amy loves him. I hope this was portrayed well.

Please leave a review and I'll post another chapter when I get the urge. Also I'm playing Frontiers and I haven't finished it yet so please no Sonamy spoilers please.
