Chapter 1: Contemplation

The wind brushed across Tsunade's sweat covered face as she fiddled with her thumbs nervously. She heard loud clacking footsteps approach her, so she slowly turned while she pulled her sleeve over her face to wipe away the perspiration. "Two minutes, Tsunade-Sensei," the nurse said quietly. Tsunade just nodded quickly and she cocked her head over balcony to observe the peaceful village. The nurse exited the room and shut the door behind her. Moments later she heard a thumping noise approaching her. Tsunade sensed the Chakra flow from where she was standing so she knew it was a shinobi approaching. "Tsunade-sama....," the ninja stuttered. She realized the ninja was about to cry.
Tsunade turned sharply and walked over to aid the hurt ninja. The voice was familiar, "G-Gai?" Tsunade asked in a worried tone. Gai faced upwards into the light revealing tears running down from his eyes to his cheek. "Tsunade-sama, I am worried about Lee," Gai said trying to hide the tears. Tsunade's face turned into a look of concern, "What are you exactly going to do? Tsunade-sama?" Gai asked firmly. Silence filled the room, "The process is going to be long and very dangerous and...." Tsunade's voice slowly became inaudible. "Yes?" Gai asked with his eyes wide open. "And...his operation has been moved to.....today..."
"W-What?" Gai said loudly. "Apparently, the schedule for tomorrow is too busy for this kind of an operation, so they decided to shift the operation to today," Tsunade said softly as if she was trying to hold back tears. Silence filled the room again, and then Gai spoke, "What's the process?". Tsunade got a grip on herself and breathed a big sigh. "Well, we are going to open up one of his wounds on his arms that he has already and once we do that we are sending an electrical pulse into his muscles so they can separate. This will make it easier to take out the fragments of his shattered arm," Tsunade stopped there to give time for Gai to digest her words. "After the pieces are collected we are going to insert a titanium alloy pole to replace his arm,"
Gai interrupted, "What? You can't simply replace an arm with a pole, can you? I mean how can the Chakra channel through his body?" Gai attacked Tsunade with questions. "Okay, I will tell you don't worry, we are going to use an X-ray to see where the pole is going and to make sure the pole attaches to his elbow joint," Tsunade paused to take a breath. "The tip of the pole is riddled with holes and when the pole meets the bone, microscopic needle-like structures come out to pierce the bone marrow so it holds together firmly, " her forehead beaded with sweat as Gai stood dumbfounded. "This same process applies to the leg as well," Tsunade finished off. The nurse appeared again and mouthed the word, It is time now.
Gai realized what was going on and turned to leave. Gai stopped n is tracks and weakly said, "Please...Lee is like my son...Please heal him,". "Oh I will, I don't want to see that boy's dream fall...never," Tsunade quickly replied, then she left behind the nurse deserting Gai in the gigantic room. Gai slowly whispered to himself, "I shouldn't worry...It's Tsunade-sama so it shouldn't be a problem...,". Gai attempted to make himself feel better but his mind was repeatedly replaying the disturbing image of Lee's struggle against Gaara. Gai breathed a deep sigh and quickly left the room as if someone was watching him. Tsunade opened Lee's Room, "Lee-san? It's time,".
