Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters used in this story. I just borrowed them and manipulated them to act in my fluffy little plot.
A/N: Ok, so basically, Ron says one thing and thinks another. That's what those short little sentences in italics are. (There are one or two of Hermione's thought floating around there though.) So if that was confusing you, now you know what it is all about. How many times have you said something and thought something completely different? If you're anything like me; way too many times to count.
Chapter 6 – Say What You Really Mean
"Hello there Ginny." Hermione said upon finding Ginny sitting in the middle of the grounds under a large oak tree on a recently erected bench.
"Alright Hermione?" she asked smiling and moving over so there was room for her friend to sit next to her.
Hermione sat on the bench and leant her head back against the tree, sighing contentedly.
"It's so peaceful out here." She said, looking up through the tree branches to the greying sky above them.
"I love the winter. It's so pretty. Everything looks like frosting on a cake." Ginny said giddily as she looked up in the same direction as Hermione.
"Hey Ginny, do you think –" Hermione began before she was assaulted by a cold mass of snow.
She wiped it from her shoulder and whipped her head around, looking for the perpetrator that had thrown the offending ball of snow.
"Hello girls." Came the familiar voice of one Ron Weasley, along with the laughing one of Harry Potter.
"You will pay for that." Hermione said glaring at Ron and pulling her cloak around her a little tighter.
"Oh I'm sure I will. Yup, most definitely." He said nodding to Harry but it was obvious to see that he didn't believe her.
Well, she'd show him then.
SPLAT!
She showed him all right.
She showed him when half an hour later the four of them traipsed back through the knee-deep snow to the Castle and she demanded a piggyback ride from him. He'd looked at her funny when she asked if he'd take her. He'd only shrugged and bent slightly so she could climb onto his back. In doing so, she had pocketed a handful of snow and wrapped her arms around his neck just like any normal person going for a piggyback ride would do.
They went along in silence until--
"Ack. What the bloody hell is…did you have to put that down my robes?" Ron asked, making Hermione slide down his back and pulling his robes away from his chest and trying to dislodge any snow that had made it's way down there.
"Yes." Hermione said smiling sweetly at him, fluttering her eyelashes sarcastically. "Payback is sweet." She said, laughing and running from Ron, squealing loudly as he gave chase.
Both of them ran back to the Castle, leaving Harry and Ginny to walk back slowly, thinking about how strange their friends were.
***
"Where to hide, where to hide?" Hermione muttered to herself as she careened around corners at a speed that should not have been known to human kind.
"Owlery, Common Room, dorm, Library? Library! Yes perfect!" she muttered under her breath as she heard footsteps coming towards her.
She took off again and upon arriving at the Library, she crouched behind a bookshelf of romance books. She knew Ron would never think to look for her there so she knew it was the perfect place to—
"Fancy seeing you here 'Mione." Came a familiar voice from behind her. The owner's breath tickling her neck.
"Ron! How did…you couldn't possibly have…don't ever sneak up on me again!" Hermione shrieked, spinning around, and pummelling Ron with her fists.
"Merlin Hermione! Quit it…ouch…Ow no…stop it!" Ron said, trying to deflect her hits. She really needs to stop it. I hate to admit it, but that damn well hurts!
She frowned and folded her arms, huffing slightly.
"So…" Ron said after a few minutes silence, "Romance books huh?" he asked, grinning widely.
"I don't read them." Hermione said, rolling her eyes exasperated.
"What do you do with them then? Prop up wonky tables?" he said still grinning obnoxiously at her.
"Most certainly not. I was just hiding in this section, hoping you wouldn't find me. Looks like I was out of luck." She said.
"Now come on Hermione, don't be a bad sport." Ron said, putting a hand on her head and mussing up her hair.
She smacked his hands away but was smiling slightly. She sighed and then gagged slightly, pulling a book from the shelf, showing the title to Ron.
"Is it legal for them to have books like this in a library for under age wizards?" Ron asked, taking the book from Hermione and flipping it over to read the blurb on the back. He flipped it back quickly however and placed it back on the shelf, pulling his hand away from it, as though it had burned it.
"I think we should leave now."
"Why?"
"That book. Very disturbing."
"Oh."
***
"What in Merlin's name is the difference between that and that?" Harry asked Ron, referring to two different planets on his Divination chart.
"Wouldn't have a bloody clue mate." Ron said earnestly, looking at his own chart and raising his eyebrows.
"One would think that if by now you two hadn't made any progress in that class then you would have given it up by now." Hermione said from behind the book she was reading.
"One would think that you would have realised by now that Divination is an excellent hour block to catch up on sleep that you didn't get the night before because your dorm mates snore." Ron answered, a little too cheekily for Hermione's satisfaction.
"One would think that he knew it was him that was snoring. Not anyone else!" Harry jumped in, looking at Ron pointedly.
"Are you saying…that I snore?"
"No." Harry said whilst nodding his head up and down, grinning at Hermione who stifled a laugh and lifted her book higher and shook her head.
"Don't hold back, either of you, tell me how you really feel." Ron said, folding his arms and looking amusedly at his friends.
"Well if you're sure…" Harry said laughing slightly.
"Maybe we should tell you that…" Hermione said, looking at Harry.
"On second thoughts, shut up." Ron said, staring back down at his chart grinning all the same.
***
"This is…really something. The house elves have out done themselves this time." Ron said, taking a huge bit of mashed potatoes and trying to talk around them.
"No Ron, please don't." Hermione said, putting a hand up in front of her face so to shield the sight.
"Et's 'ust food 'ermione." he said, shoving yet more food into the confined space.
"Food is meant to be chewed Ron, not inhaled." She said, repulsed.
Maybe this is turning her off me. Then, it's probably turning her off me altogether; I don't want to loose her as a friend too.
"I see my brother is displaying his impeccable table manners once again." Ginny said, joining them at the table sitting next to Harry.
"As always." Hermione said, making a disgusted face.
Ginny smiled wearily and started to put food onto her plate. She ended up with about a mouthful of Potato, carrots, chicken and peas.
"That's all you're going to eat?" Harry asked her, frowning.
"Yeah, I'm not all that hungry. I just had potions."
"Did Snape make you test something?" Harry asked harshly, gripping his knife and fork tightly.
"No, no. Just…Potions in general. Can't say I'm all that keen on using rat spleens in a Potion that is swallowed." She said, looking at the food on her plate and pinching her nose as she swallowed it and laughed at the expression on Harry's face.
"As long as you're sure. If Snape did anything…" Harry muttered and Ron heard him.
"Ginny can take care of herself Harry, why so concerned?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Ginny's my friend. I care about her. Nothing more, nothing less."
"Sure you don't fancy her?" Ron asked, teasing Harry but he had chosen the wrong moment to do so.
"No, I don't. Even if I did, it would really be none of your business, Ginny can make her own decisions and doesn't need your approval." He said, standing up and grabbing his bag on the way out of the Great Hall. Leaving Ron dumbstruck, fork loaded with food, half way to his mouth.
"I was only going to say 'Go for it mate.'" Ron said, looking from his sister to Hermione who were glaring at him. "What?" he asked defensively.
"Idiot." Both girls chorused at the same time.
"Alright, alright I'm going." Ron said, standing up and running after Harry.
He found him walking the halls of the school.
"Harry mate. I—"
"Save it Ron. You don't need to apologise. I was a right prat. I've just been expecting you to say something about me and Ginny for a while and I snapped, thinking the worst."
"How'd you know I was going to apologise?"
"Well I know you're too stubborn to come to me this fast, so it had to be Hermione that sent you after me to apologise. What else?"
"Not just a famous face after all. There are some brains still in that head of yours." Ron said, thumping Harry on the back as they walked back to the dorms together.
"So Ron. Anything you want to tell me?" Harry asked, with the air of someone who knew something he didn't.
"No. Nothing at all." he said, forcing himself to think about someone other than Hermione.

A/N: Another day, another chapter.
Back from my little holiday so I should be updating more often now. Depending on how much you guys like the story. I've found that this story isn't doing as well as my others have. I think it's cos I've chosen to write a R/H this time around, that and the fact that I've changed what person that I write in and I don't think I'm very good at it. I think I should stick to what I know best. Who agrees? Lol.
Anyway, to the reviewers:
Yami Boy Hey. Thanks again for your reviews. I agree with you, reading stories with a nervous Ron in them is always fun. I vouch for that definitely. Sorry that you had to wait so long! But I'm back now (obviously) so the updates should come more often. =D.
Raigeki Good to see that my stories can take your attention away from your test scores. Tests are evil. I should know. *shudders *
Vels Hey! I thought that but it was pretty cool too. The idea just popped into my head! Rather good I think. I did have fun interstate actually, didn't want to come home at the end of it! I've decided that I really don't like flying. It was my first and hopefully the last time! Lol. Happy reading. =D.
LauraKay Hey! I'm glad that you agree with me about getting the characters to sound right. That and the fact that sometimes it's nice for a change of plot. There's only so much you can do with the same plot over and over. Ugh lol.
JamieBell I'm glad that you understand where I'm coming from! It's nice to know that I'm not insane with my little ideas that I have. I think that I should just stick to writing Harry/Ginny stories. I seem to be better at them than Ron/Hermione. I dunno what it is. Maybe it's just my calling. *sigh * lol.
MyOwnLittleWorld You're my new best friend! You love how I do all my characters. I really like you lol. I seriously need to read back over this story, I can't remember what even happens, I wrote it so long ago. Shame on me.
Bella Ron is a boy. Ron is a thick boy. Ron doesn't know he likes Hermione. These thinks take time. Lol. (Ron is my hero!)
Joots And heres the rest! Hope it was as good as the last part. I'm sure you'll let me know if it was/wasn't. =).
Well hope that was good enough for you all. Let me know what you thought either way.
Until next time,
Nesserz.
