Author's Note: Life is crazy. Updating is a bitch. That's why I prefer
one-parters. Please review. Thanks and enjoy.
Ryan Atwood knew much more than most thought. He was insightful and could read people. That might have had a lot to do with his difficulty in trusting people. His shitty home life also was a factor. He tended to be on the cynical side when it came to his expectations of people. His mother's lack of dependability might have to do with that. His brother's ease at getting mixed up in illegal and immoral activities also added to Ryan's cynicism.
Then one morning he woke up thinking nothing spectacular and life altering would happen, but it did. He got arrested, and it was the best thing that ever happened to him.
He moved in with his lawyer, and his life began. He became happy and actually laughed. He began to slowly forget his life in Chino so naturally he forgot the people too. His bad boy antics drained, and he was eventually accepted by the Newpsies as "that guy from that place that classy people don't go to."
He should have known from past experiences that all good things don't last forever for Theresa, his friend who he had sex with when bored, reentered his life. She teased and taunted him, reminding him of the life he left behind. She represented the good aspects of Chino like the freedom, and he began to yearn for said freedom. He missed not having to explain where he was going, who he was going with, and curfews in the Atwood home were nonexistent.
Ryan began to not pay attention on chemistry and start remembering how he and friends would skip school and get high. He thought back on the times he, Eddie, Arturo, and Trey would spend a few days at Trey's apartment drinking beer and watching television. They would discuss what shit was going down that night and take part in it. Ryan began to grow restless with his new life.
He started calling Theresa at first just to find out what was going on with all of his buddies. Then their conversations progressed. Then they started meeting for ice cream. As time went on they began to fool around like old times. Ryan was reminded how easy it was to engage in sexual acts. It was like losing your virginity and then realizing virginity was overrated. His Newport friends were suddenly too sheltered and inexperienced. He grew bored with them, and more enchanted with Theresa.
He liked having the good life in the nice house with Theresa on the side, until one day she called with bad news. Crying histerically, she told Ryan she was pregnant. His life flashed before him, and he realized he was Chino trash. He came to the realization that the Cohen's would not just be disappointed. He knew deep down inside him that they would kick him out. He wanted to shelter himself from seeing them look at him with disapproval. He wanted to avoid the inevitable conversation.
He took his money he had saved from the Crab Shack and sent it to Theresa via mail. He quickly scribbled a letter to the Cohens' thanking them, and stuffed his backpack with a few needed supplies. He left the poolhouse and Casa Cohen with only one glance back and headed to Austin to work construction like he originally planned as if the year in Newport never happened.
