Once there was a boy. And there was a girl. He was shy and polite. She was elegant and alive. And one day they met.
He was her salvation wrapped in poetic words and secret songs. And she was his torment adorned with ginger tresses and satin gowns. He thought her loud. He thought her bossy and disliked how she so easily dismissed his ideals and 'naïve' beliefs with a simple wave of her hand saying in a very matter of fact voice-"There's no room for that here." And she found him bothersome at times, like the annoying 'clang-clang' of his typewriter. And she inwardly blamed him; because she knew he would ruin her, make her useless in the dark underworld.
And they loved one another.
They weren't meant to last; they both knew it, even as they kissed under the diamond like stars. Even as they planned for the day when they would no longer need to hide, they knew they were doomed. But they ignored it.
He poured himself into his writing, finding comfort in the bold print. She fixed her eyes on the heavens, intent on learning how to fly. And they would spend their evenings in, sitting in the dark silence of his flat. They'd sit and watch the stars shine through the dirty broken windows. And sometimes, late at night the sound of the dwarf's drunken humming would drift down through the hole in the ceiling. And he'd take her hand and pull her to her feet and spin her around. And she'd laugh softly, calling him a silly fool, before lightly kissing him. And they'd dance about his paper-covered room barefoot, and they'd both deem it better than any gathering in a grand ballroom.
And later he would watch her sleep, thinking that she looked the most beautiful then. No trace of make up on her pale face, no pins in her hair, no mask of seductive perfection. And he hated to think that within a matter of hours she would wake and stop being herself and start being 'The Diamond' again, and he feared that one day she would get lost, and no longer be able to tell where one ended and the other began. And she loved falling asleep next to him, his heartbeat pounding in her ears, his breath warm on her shoulder, because she knew that falling asleep besides him meant he'd be there in the morning.
And they knew that they'd pay a heavy price for all of it, but still they ignored it. Because when they were together Heaven and Hell met and not even death could keep them apart in the end and it gave them some hope that things would be all right after all.
Yet they could only ignore the predestined end for so long. And the day of tears and jealousy was upon them sooner then they'd feared but later than they'd thought.
And he was broken.
She was resigned.
But the end was not so bad as they had once envisioned, but then again, they'd always just ignored it...
Disclaimer: Nope don't own it Baz does but I just like to say, I don't have much money, but if I did, I'd change the ending and she would live!
