The teachers all knew of little Sabriel's lack of a mother, and tried to help the girl as much as possible. However, Miss Eager's annual Mother's Day project could not be avoided.
But despite Miss Eager's attempts to set Sabriel to another project, she staunchly refused all offers and demanded to have the supplies for a Mother's Day card. Sabriel worked just as diligently as her classmates – perhaps even more so, severely puzzling Miss Eager.
Later that night, a child's handmade Mother's Day card wrapped in plastic drifted in the waters of the Ninth Precinct, and the stars twinkled brighter.
