Chapter 2: And the Rivers Ran Red
This is what the Lord says: By this you will know that I am the Lord: With the staff that is in my hands I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink and the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.

It was such a nice and sunny day in Targoviste. Kagome had heard rumours of a festival and decided to have a look and maybe relax a bit. Unclipping her crest from her thigh, she hid her crest with her horse pack. She couldn't have those religious cowards ruin her day.
She had been walking through the crowds and had spotted a bakery stall. Nothing better than an early lunch, she might as well grab some for the road ahead too. Hopefully she could stock up on supplies. Picking several of her favourites, she walked away from the stall with a big smile on her face.
'Be wary.' Kagome halted, she gripped her purchases tightly. It had been a while since the Shikon had spoken. Something bad was going to happen. She quickly made her way into an alley way, stuffing her bread into her satchel. Looking up, she scaled the walls silently making use of the small divets and windows shelves.
On top of the building she crouched, searching for any signs. It was then she heard the Archbishop.
"A little more than one year ago…" His voice was old, crackling like an old smoker. She narrowed her eyes at the fiend. "many of us suffered a vision during the God-willed punishment of a witch in our midst."
Kagome shuddered, she never favoured this point in history. Witch-hunting was almost treated as a sport by the catholic flock.
"The devil himself came to us and threatened us with doom in one year." Her heartbeat quickened and she swallowed a lump in her throat. This stupid old fool had ignore a message from the devil?
"And yet here we are." The clouds were starting to the darken, Kagome narrowed her eyes and pulled up her hood. "For we are the righteousness of Targoviste living as if cradled in the love God." A drop of red fell onto the hand of the Archbishop, a sudden heavy downpour followed. She look at the droplets that landed in her glove.
Blood.
It was raining blood.
Foetuses of demons and other hell spawn came flying down as well, Kagome backed away shocked. The glass panes of the church shattered and impaled the archbishop.
Serves the old fool right.
Screams of the people below had stopped as a fiery blaze came to life in the sky, forming the face of a man she had only seen in drawings.
Dracula.
"One year." His voice boomed across the city. "I gave you one year to make your peace with your God. Instead you celebrate the day you killed my wife." Kagome gasped, covering her face in pure shock. They had killed Dracula's wife.
"You had your chance." And now he was going to smite the whole human race off the face of the earth. The fiery image dissipated and spread around the church, burning those standing int he area. Kagome ducked for cover and wrapped the fire rat cloth around herself. From above she heard demonic shrieking, looking she saw hell's demons climbing out of the buildings and descending upon the people.
Screams intensified as the demons ripped apart women, children and men alike. Eyeballs and intestines sprayed across the paths, wails of pure terror filled the city that night.
As much as she wanted to help the people of Targoviste knew what she had to do. She had to get away and send word to the people of Wallachia and beyond. As she ran, a few creatures descended upon her, she threw salt and decapitated the ones who came too close.
Whistling for her horse, the stallion began running towards her and she jumped onto him. The stallion galloped at full pelt, demons flew trying to grab her and hurt her horse. Kagome armed herself with her arrows and shot the bastards with pure purification arrows. Her crossbow was still in the wagon that they ran with.
"Ride Orion, Targoviste cannot be saved but we must warn the others." Kagome whispered to her stallion, soothing the Appaloosa from bucking at the creatures.
Dracula wanted to end the entirety of the human race because the Church had burned his wife at the stake. He would send the hordes to the nearest cities, and the night creatures would be occupied with them and Targoviste. Meaning she had time to warn the rest.
She prayed to whatever god was out there that the Belmont child was safe as her mission to find him would have to be sideline for the time being.
After all, the genocide of humanity had begun. As she and Orion galloped away, she could still hear the voice of Dracula.
"Kill for the only true love I've ever known." Kagome heard his voice crack through his pain, she had lost the love of her life many centuries ago now.
"Kill for the endless lifetime of hate before me."
Kagome snorted at that, at least she continued to live her life after Leon's passing unlike him. Looking to her right she saw the river that ran from Targoviste into the smaller villages and town.
Body parts were starting to collect across its banks, it ran red with blood and flies began to gather. The smell of fresh blood and burnt hair flew across the wind, it was strangely familiar.
Seems as though her job was never really done.

A/N: There are two stories being told, Kagome's adventure in Wallachia over 400 years ago and The Castlevania animated series. They will run as a parallel to each other, as we go back and forth in Kagome's life and discover just how interconnected with the belmont's she is. I will put years at the start of each chapter indicating when something is happening in the timeline but please ask me to clarify if you are confused!
