It's been two months since Kagome came back to the feudal era. Two months where she got used to her new life, filled with love, friendship, spiritual training and hard work.
She still missed her family some days, especially at night when all is left to do is to think, while waiting for slumber to take over. Those nights, Inuyasha was especially caring and affectionate. He didn't like to see her sad, and he sometimes cursed inwardly at the fact that whatever decision she would have made, she would still have had to suffer from the absence of loved ones.
He was eternally grateful that she chose him, after living apart for three long years. He would have understood if she never came back. But back then, they didn't even have time to say goodbye before he was aspirated in the well and sent back in his era. Had she never came back, they would'nt have had the chance to have closure.
"Is something wrong Inuyasha?" Kagome asked softly, bringing him back from his thoughts.
"No... I was just thinking about how glad I am that you're here with me. But how it's unfair that you had to make sacrifices to do so."
"Don't worry about that. I miss my family, yes... But I wasn't able to live, I only survived during those three years in my time, without you... And whenever I feel down, like tonight, you're always there to ease my pain..."
He kissed her slowly, pouring in all the love he felt for her. She sighed and snuggled in his arms, while he held her tightly.
Kagome knew this was her place, her home, curled up against the warm body of the man who had the strength of a Yokai and the heart of a human.
"Inuyasha... We should get going or we'll be late. I think it will do me good to go."
"Don't wanna let you go." he answered, planting a kiss in her hair.
Kagome giggled. "We'll have plenty of time to cuddle when we're back."
"Alright."
Tonight was special. It was Miroku's and Sango's third wedding anniversary. They wanted to celebrate it with their close friends, who were like family. Shippo and Kohaku would be joining them, and everyone was bringing a dish for the potluck dinner. For the occasion, Rin and Kaede volunteered to babysit the couple's kids until next morning.
Kagome and Inuyasha headed to their friend's hut, walking hand in hand.
"Hey you two!" greeted the Miko when they arrived. "Congratulations, I'm so happy for you!"
She hugged Sango and Miroku at the same time.
Soon after Shippo and Kohaku arrived so they all settled to share their dishes and eat.
"Everything is so good!" exclaimed Sango, smiling widely. "Thanks guys to be here with us."
"And to celebrate, Mushin-sama gave us this." Miroku added, bringing out a bottle of sake.
He served some to everyone, even Shippo and Kohaku who were still technically childs but they got only a few sips to try it.
Soon, they had emptied the bottle. Everyone was having a good time.
Sango and Kagome were tipsy, laughing and singing together. Miroku was also quite drunk, having drank more than the girls and was laughing at their antics.
Inuyasha seemed not too affected, even if he drank as much as Miroku. He was laughing and talking a bit more than usual but his movements were not affected.
Until sunset. Inuyasha felt his youki leaving him and then something was off. He felt really dizzy and lightheaded.
"Oi. What's h-happening to meh..." he asked, stumbling on his words.
Everyone looked at him and gasped.
"Oh right it's the new moon tonight!" exclaimed Shippo.
"And it seems that... your human form is way more affected by alcohol than your hanyo form." added Kohaku.
"Uh oh..." said Kagome and Sango at the same time, before laughing. "You're drunk Inu..." continued the Miko.
Inuyasha, his pride at stakes, got up and swayed, catching himself up with his hands against the wall.
"Shee? Not drunk." he stated.
Kagome snorted. Seeing her husband unstable on his feet was something new.
"Have you ever drank while human?" Shippo asked.
"Nope!" he answered, popping the "P".
"Well now you have." laughed Kagome.
"Keh! I drank b'fore turning human. Not ze same." he responded.
Inuyasha walked (swayed) to Miroku. He put his arm around the monk's shoulders, a big grin on his face. His cheeks were flushed because of the alcohol.
"You, M'roku, you my friend, I lov' you. You're a perv buuut you saved my ass plenty."
"Oh thank youuu I love you too bastard."
Both guys were laughing leaning on each other.
"Okay Inuyasha, we should go back to our hut." said Kagome, snickering.
"Noooo waaaait K'gome..." the hanyo whined while walking towards Sango. "Sangooo! You're my friend toooo!"
"Yeah we all love you Inuyasha." she answered, unsure what to do with him.
He hugged her and went to his wife who steadied him by holding him by the waist.
"And you, my delllicious wiffffe. I lov' you sooooo much. You're so beautiffful, eshpecially when you're nak-"
"Ok ok we're going now!" she interrupted him, blushing. "Bye everybody, it was nice being with you all!"
Kagome dragged her husband outside. He didn't bend enough while passing the entrance and bumped his head.
"Ow... Hurts..." he murmured while stroking his head.
"Yeah your head is not as hard when you're human." the Miko said.
"Keh! At least I didn't bump ma ears." Inuyasha said, touching the top of his head. Suddenly, panic rose in his dark eyes. "My ears!! K'gome!! Where are my ears!!! I lost them..."
Kagome bursted of laughter.
"They're here! You baka." she answered, tugging slightly on his human ear.
"Oooh rrright... No dog ears on new moon..." he exclaimed with a facepalm.
Holding her husband by the waist, him leaning on her with his arm around her shoulders, they walked awkwardly to their hut.
They got in and she tried to help him lay down on the futon, only managing to be dragged down when he fell on his back.
They both looked at each other in shock, then bursted of laughter.
"Awww my wiffffe... I'm so lucky to h-have you... I want to make looooove to you." he said, winking.
"Not tonight honey, you're too drunk... And I'm not quite sober either." she snickered.
"Come ooon I'm not that drunk!" He paused a few seconds. "Am I?.."
She booped his nose. "Yes. You. Are. Anyway I'll go get ready to bed, we'll see after."
When she came back to the futon, 10 minutes later, Inuyasha was sleeping soundly, even snoring. She giggled and caressing his face, she moved the black strands out of the way. She kissed him goodnight on the forehead and slipped under the sheets. She fell asleep almost immediately.
The next morning, Kagome woke up first. She snuggled against her husband who was back to his normal self. She caressed his ears, chuckling about how he thought he had lost them last night.
The hanyo slowly emerged from his slumber. As soon as he opened his eyes, he was hit by a massive headache. He groaned and put a pillow over his face.
"Hey, how are you feeling this morning?" the Miko softly asked.
"Chuuut. No sounds. Too loud..." he mumbled, his voice muffled by the pillow.
"Awww poor you, it seems like you have a bad hangover." she whispered.
Her husband only groaned in response.
Kagome also had a slight headache, but nothing to keep her from functioning.
She got up and drank a glass of water from the rain water they collected. She brought one to him.
"Here, drink. Part of the hangover is caused by dehydration. Too bad I don't have pain killers... I'll go ask Kaede if she has something that could help."
Inuyasha grunted as he sat to drink the water and then let himself fall back on the futon, the pillow returning on his head.
Kagome came back 45 minutes later with a mix of herbs she could brew into a tea. She found her husband asleep, his mouth open, drooling.
"Awww poor guy." she thought out loud.
She boiled some water and made tea for both of them. When it was ready, she went to the hanyo and caressed his face and chest to wake him up gently.
"Hey sleepy head." she said when he opened his eyes. "I made tea ment to ease headaches. Want some?"
Inuyasha caught her hand and pulled her on him before trapping her in his arms. "Snuggles are good too." he mumbled.
The Miko giggled, kissing him on the nose. "I know but the tea will get cold."
"Don't care... You're warm and cuddly."
They stayed like that for a bit before getting up to drink their tea outside, to get some fresh air.
Inuyasha was sitting with his head leaning in his hand, his elbow on his knee.
"Remind me to never drink again on new moon nights." he told his wife. "Human form sucks."
Kagome leaned against his shoulder. "Well I think you're cute in your human form."
He blushed slightly.
"Do you remember anything from last night?" she asked.
"Hum... I remember drinking sake and then feeling very weird. And after... I'm not sure. I hope I didn't do anything embarrassing."
"Well... you declared your love as a friend to Sango and Miroku, and was convinced that you lost your dog ears." she answered, giggling.
Inuyasha grunted, his hand covering his face
"Never again."
"Don't worry about that, it's ok to let loose from time to time." said the Miko softly, kissing his cheek.
Suddenly, Inuyasha's ears perked up and he looked towards the path leading to their hut.
"What is it?" asked his wife, looking in the same direction but not seeing anything special.
"I hear villagers coming our way."
He got up and ran towards the sounds. He arrived face to face with two men from the village.
"Inuyasha-sama!" they called when they saw him.
"Please, we need your help Inuyasha-sama! A yokai was sealed in a vase I bought from a merchant. I didn't know and when I dropped and broke it, it was freed! And now it's roaming around and destroying our houses and fields!"
Kagome arrived behind Inuyasha.
"Kagome-sama!" greeted the men.
"I'm heading to the village, a yokai's on a rampage." Inuyasha told her.
"I'm coming with you!" she answered as she hoped on his back.
They did a fast stop at home so the Miko could get her bow and arrows and they headed to the village at full speed.
When they arrived, they noticed that three houses were already destroyed. Inuyasha unsheathed Tetsusaiga and Kagome drew her bow and aimed in front of her.
They searched for the yokai but it was nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden, something emerged from the ground just in front of Kagome. Inuyasha reacted fast and grabbed his wife by the waist to put her out of harm's way.
"Are you alright?" he asked her.
"Yes, thank you."
The yokai was now ravaging a field. It was a type of huge snake demon, and it was fast.
The hanyo ran to the beast and tried to slice him but was countered by a gush of foul smelling acid.
Inuyasha jumped back, his sleeve covering his nose in an attempt to block the smell.
"Hey!!! You can't regurgitate on me like that you bastard!" he yelled.
Now standing in front of his wife, the hanyo threw a "Kaze no kizu!" in the face of the yokai, but it didn't do much, it's skin thick and hard like steel.
Kagome threw a purifying arrow. It harmed the beast, which rendered it furious. It spat acid in the direction of the Miko who summoned a protective barrier around her and her husband.
"Alright you stinky worm, time to get serious!" Inuyasha spat.
His sword's blade changed and swinging it, he called his "Kongōsōha". Hundreds of diamonds shards were thrown in the yokai's direction. The beast was unable to act fast enough and was badly injured by the attack.
"Kagome! I'll strike once more, time your arrow!" Inuyasha yelled in her direction, while running around the wounded yokai to find a good opening.
He didn't see that the despaired demon stroke at full speed in his direction and his reflexes were still a bit off. The hanyo was stabbed in the chest by the yokai's spiky tail, sending him flying into a tree.
"Inuyasha!!!" screamed Kagome.
"Ugh... Now it's personal." he said while getting back up, holding his bleeding chest. "Kongōsōha!!!" he yelled, swinging Tetsusaiga.
Kagome shot her purifying arrow a second after. Inuyasha's attack had detached a part of the snake's armor so the Miko was able to hit it in the exposed flesh, purifying it instantly.
"Inuyasha! Are you alright?" she yelled as she rushed to him. From afar, she hadn't noticed that he was bleeding.
"I think I need a bit of patching up." he answered, leaning on his sword that was planted in the ground.
"Oh you're badly hurt! Kaede's hut is nearer than ours. Are you able to walk?" she asked him, concerned.
The hanyo, using his sword and his wife's shoulders for support, walked slowly to the old Miko's hut. He dropped on the floor, exausted.
Kagome helped her husband out of his suikan and hadagi and cleaned his wounds. She gently applied some healing balm on them and bandaged his torso. After, she lovingly cleaned his face, arms and exposed skin with a wet cloth, ridding him of dirt and dried blood.
"You can rest here as long as you need." Kaede told them.
A few hours of rest and a meal later, Inuyasha felt strong enough to walk home. Kagome held his hand, staying by his side all the way to their hut in case he would need to support himself on her.
After she made sure her husband was settled comfortably, she kissed him softly and went to the river to wash his bloodied clothes.
When she came back, he was asleep on their futon. She covered him with the bedsheets and softly caressed his hair, untangling some strands at the same time.
Looking at his peaceful face, she smiled lovingly for this man who never hesitated to put himself in danger to protect others. God I love him so much... she thought as she kissed his forehead.
The next day, Kagome changed Inuyasha's bandages.
"It always amazes me how fast your body heals..." she said while putting away the first aid kit she had put together.
"Thank my father for his yokai blood." he answered.
The Miko sat beside her husband and took his hand in hers. "But still... I'm always worried when you're hurt... I don't want to lose you."
"Don't worry Kagome. I have no intention of leaving you, and I've been through way much worse." he reassured her.
"I know..."
Inuyasha freed his hand and softly caressed her cheek. She leaned in his touch, closing her eyes. He kissed her lovingly, pouring all his love and reassurance in it. She responded with as much love, slipping both hands in his silvery white mane, as he carefully pulled her into a warm embrace.
It quickly became heated, and wanting to be on top of his wife, Inuyasha flipped them but the movement strained on his chest. He hissed, having momentarily forgotten his wounds.
"I think we should take it easy for a few days." The miko told him, concern in her eyes.
"Keh! It's not a little wound that will keep me from-"
"No. Inuyasha be reasonable. I don't want you to worsen your condition. I know you can be a pretty horny inu and that it's the first time since we're married that you're hurt that much. But you have to behave now." she chastised him.
Inuyasha let out a frustrated growl. "Fine! But I warn you, when I'm healed..."
"Yes I know, you will jump on me." she said, giggling.
He gave her neck a trail of open mouthed kisses, making her shiver, and whispered in her ear "And more then once...".
